Possible Urinary Tract Infection?

Smokey hasn't gone to the bathroom in the house in over 2 weeks but last night & this morning he peed right in front of me.

Last night it was on this blanket that P.C. keeps spraying so I thought it was just something to do w/ that.
But then he wasn't sleeping well last night at all...
And this morning we went downstais and instead of going outside like he has every morning recently, he went into his crate and peed.

We're set to go to the vet for some shots on Saturday , if this keeps up can I wait til then or should I take him in sooner?

My roommates's dog did the same type of strange, totally out of character peeing behavior and it turned out to be a kidney infection. He has to take amoxcillin for 14 days.
Definitely check with your vet when you go...they will need to do blood and urine tests to rule out any disease so you may want to give them a call and let them know that you are adding this to your vet visit reasons....

I don't know much about dogs, but if he was a cat, I would go to the vet immediately. Within 24 hours it can get fatal, if it is what you think - at least for a cat. Can you call your vet and ask? See if you can find some info on a website? Try a few searches! Perhaps someone on this board know a good site with decriptions on dog diseases.

and now that i'm thinking about it, I'm a little peeved.
My roommate and I have an arrangement that if she leaves for work and Smokey is in his crate, she lets him out.
Well, yesterday she didn't let him out because she thought it was too cold. (we live in san diego, so it wasn't THAT cold and it would have warmed up in about an hour!!) But she didn't tell me, either, so I didn't go home at lunch which means he didn't get let out from 6:30am - 4:15pm!!
I was so proud of him for not peeing in his crate yesterday... But now I wish he would have cuz holding it for that long was probably NOT good.

Arg. And work is crazy today... I think I'll have to skip his training class tonight and take him in after work. Poor pup. :(

Manda, I certainly didn't mean to impLy that you or your roommate are irresponsible or anything of the sort....Just because MY roommate is.....I just thought the info in the post might help you out....:)

Good luck! It could just be that he is off his "schedule" now and will be fine by tomorrow.

Well, I decided yes, better safe than sorry so I am taking Smokey to the vet this evening at 5.

Manda, How did the vet appt go?

It was OK. No blood in his urine or anything...
But the dr will call back with the total urinalysis results today. He (the doc) was really good, he double checked like, everything just to make sure cuz he could tell I was worried and I know my dog and he just wasn't acting normal. Maybe he was just humoring me, but I really appreciated it. Better than him just looking at me like I'm some psycho who will take her dog to the vet for a sneeze.
ANYWAY -

$72 later, but a BIG relief, too. I felt better knowing he probably was just not feeling that well. Things have been fine since yesterday morning.

But again, better safe than sorry...

Good Manda, glad to hear that everything went well and Smokey is feeling better. I'm also happy that the vet actually listened to you and took the appropriate steps. Sometimes I think they can be a lot like people doctors and just rush on to the next patient...Not really their fault I guess, just the nature of the business I suppose...

Well, the vet called and Smokey has traces of blood and white blood cells in his urine... So there could be an infection. I didn't really understand everything he said as he has a heavy accent & he left a message on the machine.
I am now waiting for him to return my call...

We'll see what he says.

Back from picking up his meds... Poor pup. He has a high count of white blood cells and crystals on his urine. So he gets some antibiotics for 12 days.
At least it seems he's easily fooled and ate his 1.5 pills right up hidden in some AppleCranberry stuff. :p

I'm glad to hear that the vet found out and he's got some medicine for it. If he gets the same kind as our cat and you notice he suddenly get fatter, don't worry! It can be the side effect of the medicine, he will loose it again when he stops taking it.
My friend who is a nurse told us the reason: Our cat got Prednosolon for 10 days, which contains Binyrebarkhormon and that's the reason. He is back to normal again!

Prednosolon - sounds like a steroid, that's probably why!
{my boyfriend used to have to take Prednisone... a steroid... sounds kinda the same}
