Kennel Cough

Has anyone had any experience with this? My mom's new puppy, Taggert, has amild case of the kennel cough :( He was vacinated against it when he was taken in by Planned pethood, but he must have already contracted it at the shelter he was in before. So far none of the other dogs have shown any signs of it. Sadie and Cincy were both vaccinated against it in April (although they aren't around him much) and Dazzi was last vacinated about 14 months ago. Oreo is the one we are most concerned about...she has never had a vaccinatation against kennel cough and since she is older ( almost 13) probally has a weaker immune system anyway. They are trying to keep them apart as much as possible (which isn't too hard, cause Oreo is not a huge fans of other dogs) and trying to keep them from sharing food and water and toys (more difficult).

Poor boy has had such a rough start...worms and kennel cough and not even 3 months old!!! He sure is a sweety though!

My dog Buddy contracted kennel cough years ago when
I took him in for a bath & brush at a local shop. My vet
cleared it up with antibiotics and I never brought him back

Shiloh contracted Kennel Cough while she was at the shelter. If it weren't for the kind lady who would help all the GSDs in distress from the shelter, she would have been put down. Thank goodness for Mary!! Shiloh made a full recovery and has never had a problem with it since.
I hope Taggert gets well quick!!

Teddy and Ellie contracted kennel cough the weekend we were supposed to take them home. (Very diasppointing at the time but we got them two weeks later.) Fortunately, it's like a cold for humans and isn't serious if treated. It may take Taggert a few weeks to stop coughing but he should be well on the road to recovery. Just try to keep him away from any dogs who've not been vaccinated (ie. dog park, neighbor's pets, etc.) It can be very contagious and spreads through the air. The rescue I volunteer for gets cases periodically but it just takes a little time for it to go away! Good luck and post pictures of Taggert! I love puppies!

If the coughing seems real bad, give him a child's dose of cough syrup to calm the hacking. If he isn't too bad, don't worry about it too much.

We see a lot of it at the shelter here. Finally started to immunize all new dogs and puppies.

Oh yuck :( Poor Taggart :( I do know that there are several different strains of Kennel Cough (as is the same with Leptosparosis (sp?) ) so even a vaccinated dog could still contract the virus. I hope he's better soon and the others don't get it. Good luck. Hugs to Taggart.

Every dog that we ever got from the Humane Society had kennel cough. Antibiotics should clear it up. I hope he gets better soon.

Well, Taggert has recovered nicely from his bout with Kennel cough...but not without passing it on first!!! My mom's oldest dog Oreo got it and then Monday, Cincy started coughing horribly! She was up from 2-3:30am coughing, before the vaporizer finally helped. Sure enough, by Tuesday afternoon sadie was coughin too! They weren't even around Taggert much! Oh well, as kids do, dogs will pass on germs too! Cincy definatly has a worse case of it, but oth girls our on meds from the vet and theu seem to be helping! Hopefully will be better soon!!

Kennel Cough, from what I am told, is the doggy version of bronchitis and antibotics should clear it up in no time...too bad they can't give dogs Z-packs...that would knock it out in 1 day!
