I think dogs but reptiles are a close second
I voted dogs because I've only owned dogs and cats!
My parents GSD mix that is 12 had racked up over $2000 in vet bills before she was even 2 years old!!! (Broken leg, then a torn ACL)
I think dogs are the most expensive.
My ferrets have definitely been the most expensive pets.
Two required surgery at $1000 each.
One had monthly lupron shots at $70 per month for 10 months.
One is having monthly lupron shots at $116 per month, he needs 2 shots cause he's so big.
Two required 3 ultrasounds at $400 each
Now don't get me wrong, I love my boys. 3 have gone to the bridge so I've just got one left. I will do anything for my pets. I just wish it didn't have to be so darn expensive - or I'd have many ferrets cause I love them so much.
I think it depends on the specific pet. The most expensive pet we have is Izzy, our iguana. Izzy eats fresh vegetables and fruit. His lighting is ridiculously expensive, his UV light costs $100 and needs to be replaced annually. Izzy has a bedroom-sized room all to himself. In that room Justin built him an iguana jungle-gym, I have no idea how much we spent on building that, a few hundred dollars at least. Justin still has to get a bathtub and plumbing in his room, that will be cost between $100-$200. Izzy also has his own air-conditioner to regulate the temperature of his room, that cost $500. It also costs money to run the AC and his lighting.
Reptiles. Turtle needs all this technical stuff that my dogs and hamster can live without.
I'd say horses but they are not listed.
Considering house pets only though, I'd have to agree with Gail. It's ferrets hands down! I've owned a wide variety of animals over the years and ferrets always top the list year after year after year. lol
I would say Horses and farm animals.
From your list, i would say dogs.
i mean non-farm animals i should have been cleared sorry you all :o
After seeing some of the horror stories both posted here and at the vet's office, any dog from a byb or puppy mill.
Reptiles for set up costs, upkeep not so bad
Dogs for ongoing costs
Horses definately for ongoing costs
Horses!
The dogs cost me the most on average, just because of their sheer number around here! They are also very good at finding new and exciting ways to injure themselves! Just spent 100 bucks today on Anvik--has an abscess!
But I have a $4000 cat too! Fortunately, he's healthy now!
I dont know but Im geussing larger the animal more money it take's to look after them.
Birds are cheap and vet check ups are cheap and there food and vitamines lol ;)
Horse I would have too say too because they can be alot of cash but also alot of fun and love.
Unless you own an elephent..
I want an Emu when we move (Also when I save up) sure there big birds but are actualy realy cheap.
dogs can be quite pricey to keep.
