Rotte's and Pit Bulls
I just got my July issue of Dog Fancy this weekend and the feature dog is the Rotteweiler. One of the short dog features is the American Pit Bull Terrier. ( the other feature dog was Black and Tan Coonhound).
I know we have a lot of fans of both breeds here, so I wanted to let ya know :) Although they were not overly positive about either dog :( they did have some really cute pics :)

You beat me to it. This is a great issue with lots of good articles. I liked the one about disabled pets...I hope a lot of people read that one. I didn't get the bad vibes that you did about the Rotties and the Pits...I love the picture of the little girl hugging the Rottie.

I didn't really get bad vibes from the articles...I just thought they pointed out some of the concerns about owning these breeds of dogs that are often considered "dangerous". I suppose it is good, because in the wrong hands, these dogs can become aggressive, but what dogs can't? I guess I am not used to their articles warning so much about the dogs being "in the right hands". Like I said though, not a bad warning.
I loved the puppy pic of the rottweiler next to "In Brief"! And those deaf Australian Shepards were just beautiful!

Well, I have a special place in my heart for Aussies anyway. I have always been interested in a deaf dog, but with all of our others, I'd be a little concerned for his/her safety, but I agree they are beauties!!! I understand what you mean about the warnings...I guess there are so many people out there that abuse those breeds (trust me I know) that they want to make sure that the right people own them.

Thanks Amy, another member (toastco), emailed me and told me about the issue too! I used to get it all the time (5 yrs). Maby I'll pick one up at the grocery while I'm out today, how could I miss my fav dog!~Anna

We had a Rottweiler some years back, her name was Kate named after Katherine Hepburn and she was a sweetheart, loved her family so much, but we had to be very careful when strangers came over. Don took her to obedience and one of the teachers went to give her a cookie and she snapped at him. I don't see anything wrong with having a Rottweiler or PitBull as long as you understand their personality.
We just had a family move next door to us who have three PitBulls and I talked to him about them, it's a Mom dog, Dad dog and baby dog. They also have three children and he said they were very good with people but not too good with dogs, so we have to be very careful that they don't come in contact with Daisy or Perry and in fact this weekend we are extending our fence down to the street, they are very beautiful dogs but wow they really have a loud bark., I am a little apprehensive of them. lol

This weekend we went to look at buying this stallion i have had a eye on for a long time. They had a rotte there. He was a really nice boy. Now i'm not one to like these types of dogs normally. But this one was very nice good natured all around freindly boy. When we were done looking at this horse these people were over at the place where we were and they had a saddle i was going to try out. Well they too also had a rotte. He was skidish, freaked right out of people, and growled and was showing his teeth to us. The man told me he never see's people and is kept in the house all the time. This is the type of dog i worry big time about. Now i am well aware this can happen to any dog who is not socialised or treated properly. But it is hard to like a breed that has a bad rep already but when people make dogs like that they shouldn't be allowed to own animals. I am sorry if that sounds nasty but i've been attacked when i was younger by a rotte and i value my limbs too much now.

No, I don't think that sounds nasty at all! I would be afraid of a dog like that too! My sister-in-law has a golden and he is really mean. He had my 2 nieces in the barn & wouldn't let them out, he is not to be trusted. I'm not sure if her husband is mean to him or what, but he has growled at him too. I don't even go to their house now, because he is always running loose. I like my limbs to much too!!!
