Do any of you use and flea medications for your indoor cats? Normally I don't, but I've been thinking that maybe I should since Roscoe's outside a lot. What do you guys do?

You're not going to believe this, but I've controlled fleas in my house for the past 20 years with 20 Mule Team Borax (a laundry softener). I've always had indoor/outdoor cats during that time, have taken in strays loaded with fleas, and I live in western Washington state which is notorious for a year-round flea problem. When I take in a new stray, I do use Revolution on all the cats for a couple of months but I also use borax and then switch to only that. Nearly three months ago, I adopted a long-haired cat with an extreme flea allergy that the shelter insisted I had to use Revolution on once a month. Well, it's high flea season, 3 of my cats spend most of the time outside, and I haven't had to treat her at all.
I sprinkle the borax on and under all the sofa chair cushions, under and on the bed matresses, lightly on the carpet after vacuuming, and I run a line along the carpet by the wall. I refresh it all each summer but otherwise leave it to do its work of drying out both the fleas and their eggs.
My vet always combs the cats to check for fleas at their annual check-up and never finds any fleas or flea dirt, but year after year he raises a quizical brow when I tell him I only use borax.
That is a fantastic piece of info about the borax (you will have to tell me more in detail)!
I don't use a regular flea treatment regimine on my cats. Only if I see some do I take action.
Lizzie,
20 Mule Team Borax??? What a great thing to know!!
I swear by Revolution. It kills fleas, flea eggs, ticks tick eggs and earmites, not to mention mosquitoes. I use it whenever I have a foster coming through my door and have also put in on the backyard kitties, Fluffy and Midnight.
I have never used anything except borax either and haven't ever seen a flea on Finnigan. We are also in an area with a lot of fleas. Finnigan is an inside only cat.
Lizzie that's awesome advice! Thank you very much, I am going to get some of that right away, thank you!
