Just wanted to share that Ripley is doing better (knock on wood). I never was able to get the antibiotics in him without a nasty foamy reaction. Even the liquid made him sick. I tried once and gave up. It seem like they were making him sicker. I decided to just wait and see if he really needed them. Well about a week later he started acting like his old self and then about a week or so ago he started begging for food. I think he's even put on a little weight. He hasn't need any more sub-q fluids for the kidney failure yet and he isn't spraying or having any difficulty urinating so I guess there wasn't a UTI or I got enough antibiotics in him to take care of it. So far so good!
Here's a picture I took of him today. He had just jumped down off the top perch of the cat tree. He got up there all by himself - yay!

He looks so much better than he did a month or so ago and he's spunky again, even for a 14 year old boy!
