My orange tabby Simba, opens our dresser drawers, our kitchen cabinets, and can even find a way to get out of a closed door. He has been doing this since he was just a baby. Anyone know why he's so fascinated with opening doors? It's so cute to come home from work and my bedroom dresser drawers are opened. It's not a bad thing, I was just curious as to why he feels the need to do it... :)

Well my little punky butt does that, but only one cupboard. He doesn't seem too realize all the cupboards open the same way! He only does it when I turn my music up loud. Does your kitty do it in various places of home when he wants peace and quiet? I'm no expert, just throwing out a question? Do you have an active house? Or maybe live where mice be invisible to you, but not to him? I live in a house and both my cats have brought me their trophies. Just throwing out suggestions

Okay, someone needs to invent a cat bed that works like a dresser drawer or cabinet! :D

Just curiosity? Or maybe kitty does need her own wee space somewhere?

Or just a cute habit!

My Tux opens drawers and cabinets too.
He even taught Pesca how to do that as well. I call him my inspector. :D

My 12 year old tortie, Mollie Rose knows how to open my kitchen cabinet doors. She has one particular spot, above my microwave, where she likes to hide. When she wants in, she simply shoves all the stuff (just food, teabags, peanut butter, etc., no glass) outta the way and hops in.

Cats. Gotta love 'em!!! ;)

Zam takes it one step further. With the kitchen cabinets that are floor level, she'll open them just enough and let them shut. So I'm trying to relax on the couch and I hear, 'Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump....etc. etc...'

She does it till I yell, 'knock it off!' then it gets quiet and then 'thump, thump, thump, thump...'

Goofy cat.

My two regularly check the closet and cupboards for terrorists. Such good, patriotic kitties! :D

(I've told them that if they find Osama bin Laden  hiding in a cupboard, they have my permission to bite him.)

Juni does the thump thump thing mostly when I am not looking....i.e., in the shower or asleep. I often come home to open cabinets in the kitchen. She will get inside any higher cabinet if it is left open....glasses get knocked around when she decides it is time to investigage. I don't know why she likes to do this......I think she is just plain old goofy.

Sunny also does this to try to get my attention. He's letting me know that he's hungry and that I should hurry up and feed him.

My Indigo loves to open drawers and empty them just for fun. She will do it day after day. She loves scarves, sweaters, underwear - whatever she can easily snag and pull out. Both cats love to try to open doors. I think that is a cat law: if a door is closed, it needs to be opened. Cats are just intolerant of closed doors - at least all the cats I have known have been. And then they go inside, once the door is opened, and afterward they insist they must come back inside. Etc. The point is - the door *should* be open. If you have closed it, you have broken a very obvious kitty law, and you should be ashamed! (According to the cat/s, that is . . .)

Boo and Coco Puff like to open the door to where I keep all my Tupperware. They don't play w/it, sleep in there or anything. They just like to open that one particular door! Puddy likes to open the door where I keep the baggies and tin foil. But she likes to jump up on the shelf and sit there, paws hanging over and acting like Her Royal Highness. Again, no sleeping, no mischief. She just likes to sit there. I've given up trying to figure out why my fur posse does what it does. As long as they don't hurt themselves or my stuff, it's ok w/me.

Blessings,
Mary
