My Jack Russel does around 6 good quality poohs a day, is this the average?
It seems quite a lot to me.
I clear up after him and know there are no worms and his health is good, he's not fat and has a small appetite.
Is this the norm?
This is my first post, sorry about the subject!

Don't apologize, it's a very important subject, lol :D
One of my girls does #2 about 4-5 times daily, and one is a very regular twice a day girl. I think it probably varies a lot between dogs; the important thing is to watch for quality, not quantity (e.g. signs of digestive problems and parasites).

WOW, 4-6 seems like a LOT! What are you guys feeding your dogs? And what age are they?
Gonzo goes once a day, if it's twice he has gotten a lot of extra treats. Totally firm and healthy. I would think with 6 BM's, there is a lot of unusable food products (like grains/corn) passing through the dog.

Frequent (2-4 times a day), large, formed stools are an indication of a diet that is adequate in fiber and one that is moving through a system at the proper rate, scrubbing the walls of the intestines to prevent toxins from laying there and putrefying in the gut.

Don't the smaller dogs and more active dogs also have a higher metabolic rate than the larger ones or the less active breeds? It's my active dog that goes more often and the one that sleeps all day goes less often. They both eat all right and I'm not feeding discount dog food full of fillers, etc.
I know someone with a very small mixed-breed dog (weighed 3 pounds), and she commented to me that hers would drink a lot and have to go more often (both #1 and #2) than larger dogs she had owned in the past. If this holds true, I would expect the Jack Russell to go as often as he does, since the breed is both small and active.

I have three Jack Russells, and they all go on average two to three times a day. I would think that 6 poos a day is a bit extreme...

Depends -- usually about 2-3 times a day.
A good question was asked: what do you feed your dog? The better the food, the less poo there is. Why? Because the cheaper "supermarket foods" are loaded with fillers and low quality meats like chicken by-products (such a beaks, eyes, claws, etc) they eat more because they don't get the necessary nutrition needed to keep them full. Think of when you go to McDonalds. A large fry and double cheesburger fills you, but in two hours you're hungry again. Now think if you arte a nice chicken breast, corn, broccoli, carrots.... you'll be full and not hungry for several hours. Also think what happens in your own bathroom a few hours after McDonals vs a healthy meal.
Better food = better nutrition = less eaten per day = less poops per day.

Charlie and Jamie each poo 1 - 2 times a day (which is good since we live in a condo now!!)

What are you feeding him? 6 seems like a heck of a lot to me.
My boys go 1-2 times a day on average

All of mine go once to twice a day.
I'm betting the many bowel movements are caused by either the food and/or the amount of feedings.

All 3 of mine eat the same food, Nutro Natural. Gulliver poohs normally 2 times a day. Murph, once a day. Oz, sometimes once, sometimes twice a day.

I really imagine its counts how many time you let the dogs out. Autumn goes out 4 time a day on average, but when we go to the dog park she has to poop 2-3 times within the timespan we are there.

Well, I think Molli goes once or twice a day, and Sam goes about 4 times a day.
It all depends on the age, size, and what you feed your dog. If your dog seems to be going way too much, it's probably because you don't have a very good brand of dog food.

Overfeeding can cause frequent stools as well. Healthy adult dogs digest food in 7-10 hours - this means their bodies are collecting all the nutrients from the food. When I get my puppy, he will get fruits and veggies as treats - and some raw bones as well. Feeding too many treats can cause frequent stools and generally aren't healthy for you pet.

2-3 poos a day is normal and healthy. If your dog is going 4+ a day, the food needs changed or the dog is consuming too much food. I just learned this and have cut Pearl's food down as she was going 4 times a day. Now she normally goes 2 times and very rarely 3 times a day.

Mine go around 1 or 2 times a day. Sometimes when we take them for walks, Prince goes twice. Very rare for him to do that though.

Fenway goes "big boy potty" (that's what I call it  ) on average 3 times per day - morning, after work and before bedtime.
Is your JR a puppy? Puppies poop more than adult dogs.

Anita is so regular for poo... She always goes twice a day (1 in the morning, and 1 at night, before she goes to bed...)
& times sounds like too much for me... Maybe it's what you're feeding him???
