Well maybe the question is what. would you rather have your dog with you or your phone?I'd rather have my dogs. No and ifs or buts about that.

Depends which dog honestly..I'd rather have both or Roxy, because Lily wouldn't protect me I don't think :p She's sort of a wimp. :o

I've never gone for a walk alone in the dark and probably never will, but if I ever did I'd only have the choice of a dog, seeing as I don't own a cell. If I did have a cell though, I wouldn't choose between the two. I'd take both it and a dog.

Same here. :) Whenever I walk Smokey people seem to want to avoid him.
I guess he looks intimidating. He walks with tail up & curled over his back.
If they only knew what a wuss he really is. :)

I wouldn't go for a walk in the dark, but I voted dog and that'd be Lacey. ;)

Well, IF I ever went on a walk alone in the dark...I would definately take a dog (Shadow!! ;) )

edit: :o I just realized the question which you'd trust not, not take...I would definately trust the dog because they can hear or pick up on things waaay before I'd be able to. Also I know that if I'm in trouble Shadow (Jack too, probably) would do their best to protect me. And in that case (if I had a cell phone) I would take both :D

edit again: okay..there are two different questions...I am not losing my mind!!!

I walk down my road alone in the dark, few street lights but I live in a fairly rural area. Always have at least one dog with me. Maggie probably can't do much but she is going to probably hear something before I do. Guess I choose dog since I have yet to take the cell with me.

Dog, definately. Ethan and Frisk especially, because they are both very protective of me. Skylar isn't protective of anything... when he's outside and sees a stranger or hears a strange voice, he trys to run toward it with his tail wagging! :D
And if I had to choose between taking Ethan or Frisk, I'd take Ethan. I know Ethan will take action because he once bit a friend of my sister's (my sister's friend wasn't upset, he understood that he made the wrong movement and that it Ethan wasn't attacking him for no reason).

Well, I don't own a cell phone (gasp!). In the summer, I take night walks every night, usually with Tasha, sometimes with both Tommy and Tasha. I've always done this, when I was younger I took midsummer night walks with my collies too ;). They are some of the most peaceful times for me.

I think in this hypothesis, a dog definitely serves as a deterrent for anyone up to no good, however if you were just walking with a cell phone, unless it was in your hand with your finger on the auto-dial, I don't see how you could for sure get a call off if someone were to grab you.

If I was alone, I would take a cell phone. If something were to happen to me, I would rather that I didnt have a dog there incase he got hurt. There are people in my area that wouldnt hesitate to kill a dog if it attacked/growled at them. I think it is far too dangerous to risk my life, let alone my dogs life too.

That being said - I would bring my husband AND my dog AND our cell phone! If my hubby was there - I wouldnt be scared of anyting. He would seriously hurt anybody that tried to hurt me or my dog. He is far more protective than any dog I have ever known. :p

I used to walk alone in the dark all the time but now hardly ever. Our area has been going through a regression from suburbs to slums so now I am afraid. Autumn knows how to growl on command and will also growl at men she doesn't trust if they get too close. If I need to use a phone I couldn't see some mugger allowing you to call 911 while they stand there and wait.

Easy question for me :D ! First of all, I take my cell phone everywhere I go; and second: I NEVER walk alone in the dark :D
Why?? I am to scared  . As a kid, I had to walk 500m from the busstop to my home. I did that running, heavy bag or not

My cell phone certainly wouldn't bite an attacker so it has to be Tobey for me ;)

Roscoe wouldn't hesitate to protect me, and I'd be nervous that I'd have no signal when I'd need to use my phone. Plus, people seem to be a little afraid of Roscoe sometimes, I guess because of his size and type of dog he is.

I go walking at night around the neighborhood quite often. Never take my cell, but always have either Oz or Gull or Both. I feel very safe actually. I had a guy walk up behind me the other night and Gull went into some ear shattering barking. The guy took off running to get away from us. I think Gull scared the bejabbers out of him.

Oz will bark in similar situations too. He uses a lil' more sense about it then Gull, but I've no doubt if anybody started threatening us, he'd be doing some ear shattering barking too.

I actually think they're better to have then an actual protection dog that would be more quiet, but more apt to bite. Doubtful my two would bite, but with the noise they can make, nobody's getting close enough to us, to harm us, without the whole neighborhood knowing about it.

I'd rather have my dogs, they might not be very big, but my buffy sure can bite! She is VERY VERY protective.

I would feel safer if I had Star with me, my cell phone doesn't always work but she will ALWAYS protect me.

Well, I would take both. Molli is small and is too friendly with strangers, and Sammy could be big enough to protect me, but he's a wimp. lol

Well this is easy, I don't have a cell phone. ;) I walk Nebo alone in the dark quite often, though I usually do not go too far from the house. I wouldn't go for a walk without him. My mom and I walk the dogs at night all the time and we've never even thought of bringing her cell phone.

I don't know if Nebo would protect me, he's not a barker and afraid of most strangers but he looks like a vicious dog (so I've been told by many people  ).

I walk the dogs often in the dark. Especially in winter.
I would pick them anyday over a cell phone.

I would take my dogs (probably just Mollly though) because I don't have a cell phone. Astra isn't that much of a guard dog. She is really shy around strangers and isn't much of a biter or barker. Prince is a tough little guy. He once bit my aunt on her ankle when we first got him! He may bark and try to bite but he is too small to do much damage. Molly is VERY protective of me. Whenever I wrestle with my brothers, she starts to bark if she thinks things are getting out of hand. She has a really deep, loud bark that will probably scare many people away.

Besides not having a cell phone (or even the slighest desire for one) - I would choose my dogs anyday as I don't see how a cell phone could assist you if suddenly confronted.

Well of course I'd rather have my dog, preferably Bon. He is VERY intimidating when he barks:eek: Unless someone had some sort of a weapon I really don't think anyone would dare come near me!

I am afraid that my dogs would do me no good so I voted for my cell phone. They would most likely just wag their tails at the person, although I think if anyone tried to attack me Ripley would bark at them. Yep, that's right - my tiny little Ripley who only weighs 14 lbs. sometimes thinks he can take on the world. :p

I always went for walks at night, as it was cooler on Max (he was all black). He was a great protector, even a couple days after we got him. He wasn't agressive at all, he just knew when people should stay away.

My sister was only 8 (my sister was slow & an easy target) & Max was 6 months old. She took him for a walk, at the campground we were camping at. 2 men wanted to pet him cause he looked like a pure lab at that age (hes was a lab, rottie, pitty mix), they couldn't get within 20 feet of her, Max went wild & wanted to attack them.

My sister ran back with Max crying, dad ran up to her thinking Max bit her cause he heard Max going wild. She was ok, she told dad what happened & dad went to meet the 2 men to say sorry. The men thought he was a wonderful dog & they assumed he was an adult, just small & looked like a puppy. Nope he was just a baby & they were very impressed. Thats when we knew my sister & I would always be safe with him near by.

Max even attempted to take on a large man that was trying to break into our house & he also did the same when 2 large men tried the same thing.

He was also a very loving dog. a 2yr old grabbed his penis & attempted to rip it off!! We were only an arms reach away & thought it was gonna be the end, but nope Max didn't have a car in the world. He wanted her to let go, but he knew she ment no harm & then he gave up & just layed there & fell asleep(we stopped her, but she thought it was funny & would do it again).

So ya I voted Dog!

I walk at night all the time, and I trust only my dogs, what good is my cell phone gonna do me? if someone tried to kidnap me or mug me, by the time I got my cell out and dailed it would be do late, if I am scared my hands are going to be shaking and I am going to be fumbling around for my phone. on the otherhand my dogs will warn me before anyone has the chance to get near, and who the heck is stupid enugh to mug a person with a dog at their side? lol there are a few morons and they will just get a nice bite in the a$$. I trust my dogs over anything else when it comes to night time protection.

agreed, cells are useless, when you have no idea someone is there.

I remember when I heard about hte guy who broke into my friends house when no one was home. The 200p rottie didn't care, until the robber kicked the little dog hard.. then there was lots of blood shed hahaha no one knows how he got out alive. The rottie tore him to shreds & it took days to clean up all the blood.. some people are just soooo stupid . He knew the Rottie & knew how protective he was of the little dog

i would definatly trust walking with Gracie more than my cellphone. for some reason people keep thinking Gracie is a wolf. Beanie on the other hand, my cellphone would be safer.
