Today at work one of our regulars came through the drive-thru. He was on the verge of crying, we could tell. My co-worker asked him if everything was okay and then he told us what was bothering him.
He's an older gentleman - I'd say in his early 60's. His girlfriend died a few days ago. If that's not heartbreaking as it is, he was on the phone with her while it happened. He was watching her grandson and as he just finished saying "Grandma's on the phone, she wants to talk to you..." she had a heart attack and fell to the ground.
Imagine having to explain that to her grandson.
My co-worker asked if she could say a prayer for him, and she did before he pulled away. Although I do not follow religion I bowed my head in respect. He had tears in his eyes as he left.
Afterwards my co-worker and I were in a complete daze. We just couldn't get ourselves together.
Life is precious and please do not take it for granted, far far too precious.
