Yes, I've been to every open space I can think of several times. The staff at the golf course is keeping an eye out for him--they do dog sled tours on the course in the winter so lots of dogs around there. There was only moose tracks on the closed golf course. I went to all the other cleared spots I could think of--not many of them around here. Saw lots of moose, rabbit, fox and coyote tracks, lots of skidoo tracks, no sign of Delta.

I'd have fifty dogs if I brought home every one I've seen running around in the past few days. I did take several wandering mutts back to their homes. But none of them were my guy.

Our communicator friend had a tragedy of her own yesterday--one of her dogs killed her cat, so I don't imagine she's in any kind of shape to help us any more right now.

There are no bear traps in the area. If he gets farther away from the populated areas, there are trap lines, mostly wolf and fox trappers. I don't think there are many active trappers in this area anymore though, most of them are way out in the boonies.

There was a possible Delta sighting today. I can't guarentee it was him as I saw nothing when I got there, but the man that called had one of our posters and was sure it was Delta. He said he looked confused and scared, but not injured. When he stopped his car, Delta ran off into the forest. I walked that area for a long time tonight, but didn't see him. I did see tracks.

I wish Stuart was home. He's a great tracker, but he couldn't miss his neurosurgeon app't. We've been waiting over a year for that consultation. I had to go back to work today--I was on holidays for all of February. My supervisor knows what is going on with Delta and she is ok with me racing out of the office if anyone calls.

I know that the dog seen tonight could have been a different black and white husky cross. They aren't exactly rare around here, but I am choosing to believe it was my boy. I'll be back out in that area tomorrow every chance I get. We had a call from that same area on the day we handed out the posters, so maybe he is lurking around there. It's a fairly safe area as far as predators go. It's too populated for the wolves to be around unless they are really hungry, which isn't the case this winter. Lots more of their natural prey around. It's close to a road, but it's a speed trap zone so most people travel slowly. There are several houses around, tons of dogs and even a couple dog yards.

Keep those paws crossed please. The odds are getting longer, but there is still hope for my timid boy.

I walked that area for a long time tonight, but didn't see him.

Glacier, have you tried leaving some of your clothes in the area where he was spotted? We've had several instances in NH where owners lost there dogs in the woods. When they were spotted (or in the area where they were last seen), the owners left their coats/sweaters for the dog to find and smell and most importantly, stay. In all instances, the dogs stayed in that general area and the owners found them.

Perhaps you can leave a coat or a sweater or a shirt in that area?

I had a phone call yesterday from a lady who thinks Delta was in her yard on Thursday. She didn't know he was missing at the time, but saw my poster when she went to get her mail and called me. If it was him, he's closer to home than the last time he was sighted. I tromped around that area yesterday with no luck.

Gina, it's hard to tell if the dogs even notice he's gone anymore. Delta is at the very bottom of the pack order so his absence doesn't disrupt their heirarchy. For the first few days, they were quieter and seemed to be trying to find him. Antare went around and looked in all the dog houses and searched the yard for him. I think he misses him most. They are very attached to each other. It's been almost two weeks now and they are all pretty much back to normal. Ozzy freaks out when I cry in the yard. He's a big momma's boy so I've been trying not to let him see me get upset.

I wouldn't even know where to start to set a trap for him. There's thousands of acres of bush between the areas he's been sighted in and home. I don't even know for sure if any of the sightings have actually been Delta. I haven't seen him and black and white husky crosses are plentiful around here. No one has reported seeing him since Thursday.

I tried luring him into the driveway with food. All that did was attract a wolf, an extremely brazen wolf who was clearly trying to find a way over my fence. I've heard stories lately about wolves getting past fences. Everyone seems to feel obliged to tell me their wolf stories lately, like I need to hear that! It even turned and snarled at me before moving on. If I hadn't been home that night, I would have lost dogs to that damn thing. I can't put the other 22 dogs at risk by attracting predators.

Delta has been neutered since he was 5 months old. So I don't think he's after a female in heat.

Have you gone to the shelter & looked at all the pups there? Personally I would trust them to call. AS the one back home, was a great shelter, but they still ignored the photos of a lost beagle & nearly gave the beagle away until the owner came to the shelter anyways to see if his guy was there. Sometimes shelters just get too busy or the wrong person answers the phone :(

Over 200 of them, all over town, all the outlying areas, every mailbox I could find, anywhere there are dog teams, and every musher I know has a copy. I've stapled them to trees on the trails, handed them out to everyone I know, left on car windshields and stuck in house doors, handed to total strangers I've run into out walking their dogs. He's listed in the papers "pet report" and I paid for Lost ads in both local papers. He's also on several websites including petfinder. He's also wearing a collar with tags and is microchipped. If he's at someone's home and they've actually managed to catch him, they have decided to steal him.

I threw a metal food dish at her and screamed. It's always a good idea to tick a predator off! :rolleyes: (then I sat on the couch and shook for an hour!) But it seems to have worked--she hasn't been back. I told my Mom about this tonight and she's refusing to tell my Dad. She says he'll have a stroke!

99.9% of the time a wolf in the wild will ignore you completely. They don't hunt humans and generally you won't even know they are there. I've seen them a few times actually in the bush! They've never bothered me or the dog team.

We have snow left. Conditions are as good as they've been all winter. I've been running the dog team lots and going as close to where Delta has been seen as possible.

Thats 1 thing Canada needs to make Mandatory! Chip Checking, ALL dogs, while they sit in the office waiting to see the vet.

I SAW HIM!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D I had a tour booked this morning with the dog team. I let Mac come with us and he just ran loose. As we came by the end of the lake, I saw Mac playing and chasing a black dog with a white tail tip. I am freakin' certain it was Delta. The dog took off into the trees at the end of the lake. I couldn't follow with the team. If I could have, my customer would have gone a different route than I normally take tours on! I am heading there now with the skidoo. I'll park it on the ice and hike around so the noise doesn't scare him. I have to pick Stuart up at the airport this afternoon and then he can come help too. He's a far better tracker than I am. I can't believe that I saw him!!!!

We didn't find him today. But he's out there, I know it. And yes, I think he is working his way closer to home. The spot I saw him today is only 3km or so away. Last week he was double that away or more. Thursday afternoon he was about 5km away. I have hope again; that was pretty much gone the last few days. He's still out there and we'll find him.

Depends on the dog. A small, lap dog type wouldn't have a chance. If Delta can avoid the wolves, he's got a good chance. The wolves are really the only predator he needs to worry about. I'm not at all worried about his ability to cope with the elements. He has a phenomonal coat and is made for winter. There are lots of places he could find shelter like overhangs, fallen trees ect.

One thing working in Delta's favor is that he is essentially feral to start with. He has no use for humans and could survive without human contact. Doesn't work in my favor as it makes catching him even harder. I imagine that after 2 weeks on his own, he's lost any progress I'd made with socializing him.

There are places around where he could be stealing food; Houses, other mushers yards. He's also a pretty good hunter. He could easily catch mice and squirrels. The grouse are out right now. They are stupid birds and pretty easy prey. He could eat enough snow to keep himself somewhat hydrated.

Growing up we had a shepard/husky mix. I was about 12 when we got him from the pound. That dog would run like crazy if he got out, we would chase him down. One time he really got away and we found him at the pound, after that he never ran away again.

I remember having a husky in the house...and, prior to that, I did as much research as I could, and, discovered quickly that if you take the husky off leash, he's outta there. ;) We never unleashed Nikolai for that reason, we knew he'd run forever and ever, then stop, and, not know how to get home. I'm so sorry that you're still having to deal with this, and, it sounds like Delta is fine out there, but, it's very sad that he's not home, yet. i once had a husky that had a houdini complex, she would get out throught the smallest hole, she even got out through a 10 cms space, just dont ask me how, tha thing is she ALWAYS returned, it may be a husky exception since i know they LOVE to RUN and they will if let, but i hope Delta has this exception and come back soon, hes had a fun time on his own but its time to go back.............come on buddy!!!
