OH.MY.GOSH. We're getting a puppy!!

A purebred field trial black male Lab! He and his three littermates are 4 1/2 weeks old right now. They just got their first set of shots, and we'll be visiting him this coming weekend. There are two males for us to choose from. We'll be getting him when he's 7 weeks.

They are at a rescue which is what makes this story amazing (to me). My dad won't let us get anything but a purebred Lab and my mom and I do NOT want to go through a breeder (rescues are so much better ;)) so I was thinking we'd never be able to find a male purebred field Lab puppy at a rescue. All of those things are what we need for our situation.

Their story: The puppies came from a breeder orginally. His wife was pregnant so puppies were quite a handful with a baby coming but the momma was doing all of the work. When the pups were 1 week old the momma was stolen at night while she was out to potty. He didn't have time to hand-raise them since his wife was pregnant (and about to pop) so he took them to a rescue.

My dream dog has been, for the longest time, a black male field trial Lab. I never thought I'd get him since I always want to go through a rescue.

This is so amazing!

P.S. - this is our last dog for a loooong time. 4 is all we can handle with Moody Mandy :p

I was really surprised my parents allowed this, actually. 4 dogs is all I want though because I try to spend individual time with each dog every day. Mandy gets the most individual time since she doesn't play with the other dogs much, so I really don't want to cut down on her time any more. She's the top priority here, since she's getting old, and 5 dogs would probably be too many in this little house anyway.

He's definetly coming in April!

And no pictures yet because I haven't seen him, but once we visit him this weekend I'll have tons!

The name I've always had picked out for my "dream dog" was Bo, but that could change if it doesn't fit his personality so any suggestions are welcome!

Yeah, and that's something I try to avoid. Bo is common but it's usually spelled Beau. Doesn't make a difference though :p

Okay here is the other half of the story in case anyone is interested...

I went to Petco today to get some food for the girls. I had no idea adoption days were on Saturday and Sunday at Petco ... I usually try to avoid these things for this very reason lol. There was a black Lab mix puppy there, a female. She certainly looked pure but her brother looked almost exactly like Kodie (sammy101's dog) so it was doubtful she was, even if they had different dads what is the odd a purebred female found a purebred male? Her personality was like an exact replica of Nova's (and Nova is my "heart dog" so needless to say I fell head over heals for her). I called my mom and she asked me to leave and we would come back in a few minutes after they went to Staples. Well, it was only 40 minutes until we got back and literally as we were walking in the door papers were being filled out for her adoption. The people I had talked to before were really heartbroken for me, so they offered these pups to us even though no one is supposed to know about them yet. I told them it was probably for the best anyway, since another female would be a nightmare here.

I really hope that little girl has a good home ... I seriously thought she was going to be mine :(

Congratulations, Sarah!!! Puppies are just the best, aren't they?!!! My family is getting a female Golden retriever, this coming May! I cannot wait until May comes around!

I really like all of the name suggestions, especially Coal, and Bullet. (Ipresonally have always wanted to name a future dog of mine Bullet ;) )

My advice- I really would try to not name your puppy Bo, because it sound exactley like "NO"! And you wouldn't want to confue the dog. Just my advice. :)

Nova hasn't had any problems with that. We do say no sometimes but usually we use other commands like "stop", "leave it", etc. We probably won't go with Bo, we're leaning towards Koda. Bo is too common for my taste. Also, since it sounds so much like "no" we're thinking it may confuse Nova. ;)

I think thats a good desicion...also Koda sounds a lot like Nova so that might be a little confusing. I can't wait for pictures, so many new PT babies lately, its so exciting!! :D

Hmm, B names for a Lab. I like regal, strong, bold-sounding names for Labradors, like Boden (Bodie). The more I say it the more I like it, actually ;)

I also like Banner, Bailey, Bowie, and Brody. Hehe, you can probably tell I love "-e" sounding names.

I took Mandy for a walk today and ran into a lady who has an 11 week old male black Lab pup that is in training to be a service dog. Mandy did good with him, so now I am really not worried about her and the new pup. He was a-dor-a-ble and I just smooshed his face and kissed on him so much! I also ran back to my house and grabbed Nova to play with him, and she looooved that!!

Also, the lady two houses down has a black lab that I originally thought she was just letting get fat, but turns out she was preggo. The pups are 5 weeks old now and I am going to go visit them. (No I'm not getting one of those pups instead - like I said, I'd rather rescue). I just want to see if she is a good breeder or a BYB, I am really very curious.

It's been just over 24 hours since my parents said "yes" and I am SO incredibly anxious you cannot even imagine! I want to bring my baby home! I told my mom today that this is the last dog until Mandy is gone and if I even think about another dog she has my permission to slap some sense into me. lol. Maybe since this is my "dream" dog I will be satisfied (probably not lol).

The lady from the rescue hasn't called us back yet to confirm us coming up to meet the pups this week :( I'm getting really anxious. If she doesn't call soon I'll go crazy! The pups will be up for adoption in two weeks, she NEEDS to call before then! :( :(

Still no word from the rescue. They go up for adoption in one week and I'm know they'll go fast. She's an hour away too, and she's not planning on bringing the pups to the next adoption booth here in town. Only if she calls us can we go visit because they are at her house and we have no address. We have called her numerous times, we are just waiting now.

So considering we are probably not going to be able to contact this lady the breeder is the obvious choice. I have added a ticker to my siggy of the baby boy's age. We may go visit him tonight, but my mom was polite and said if the weekend is better for the breeder (she works full time) then we could go then. I'm not sure if she's taking off time to help care for them because the first 3 or so weeks are usually a piece of cake for the breeder, but seeing they will be 4 weeks old tomorrow I wonder if she's going to start staying home or sending someone over :confused: She knows me fairly well though we haven't talked in quite a while but I am going to offer to come over several times during the day to check on the pups and clean up after them. It's been a while since I stuck my hand in poop (actually tomorrow is the one month anniversary since I left my job) so I'm getting to miss it. lollll

So far his name is Buck, and we haven't even met him and he already has about 20 nick names. :D His name could change, but it's not likely. I really like it!

If we visit him tonight, there will be pictures galore tonight or tomorrow morning. If it's this weekend you all will have to wait!

And please, please pray that the rescue gets back to us. I hate not even having the option to rescue. Right now is THE time we want to adopt, and unfortunately we have a pretty specific dog that we need for our house because of my dad and Mandy. There are no other pups fitting our description within 5 hours of us :(

I ahve just got to say i know how you mean about the whole thing with missing out.I missedoput on SO many kittens that I fellin love with. Like this tortie girl that was liek calling forme to adopt her and then we were too late! i remeber being mad becausemy Mum said she didnt wanttocomeon her lunch break to her see because she had been off work for a couple of days.
