New York, because it is a lot more like Chicago than CA and I couldn't stand the CA weather

I'd love to live in a place like California because of the warm weather (no snow!) and beaches. New York would be way too busy for me and I don't really like cities all that much in the first place.

California! I dunno what I'd do if I couldn't get to the beach!

I agree, that I doubt if I could really stand the CA weather. :D

Neither, really. But I chose California. I don't like the New York accents (sorry if anyone here has one but I've grown up around people with strong southern accents), I don't want to live where it snows, and I don't like how southern things are so foreign to them (grits, "y'all", country music). :p What can I say, I'm a southern belle! :D

California just because I've never lived in a place like that before. I've lived inland and near a major city my entire life, so I've seen all that before (though, none as busy or as big as New York, that's for sure!)

I thought we were talking about New York state not the city  I mean if we were talking about the city I would think she would also put Los Angeles instead of California.

Both states are very big places, with varied climates, and yes, even varied accents.

I would not live in New Your City, but lots of upstate NY is nice. I wouldn't want to live in parts CA - I like my seasons more varied, thank you, but Northern CA is far different than Southern CA.

Ah must be uh noahthunan thru an thru, grits=wallpaper paste to me!

Oatmeal I like.

Grits, or Cream of Wheat? Bleaaah. Yecch.

We had a North Carolinian lady, Laura, who made them every year for our Palm Sunday breakfast - the Southerners adored them, the rest of us avoided them - including her Massachusetts-raised daughters!

LOL!

They don't even make grits at breakfast restaurants up north do they? I always get them at Waffle House and Village Inn.

I really wouldn't want to live in either, but I think I'd have to choose California. However I would not want to live in the L.A. area. Maybe somewhere in northern California.

There are rare restaurants that offer them, but you have too look hard for them, and not expect much, qualitywise - or so I am told. I've never seen a "Waffle House" chain restaurant in Massachusetts.

LOL Same here!! And Dennys! And at every "breakfast" restaurant they serve grits. I've never had them before though; they kind of look gross :(

Yup! Cali is a huuge state with amazingly varied climates ranging from dry, arid deserts (the appropriately named Death Valley) to snow peaked mountains (Tahoe area). A better option would be Nor Cal vs. So Cal. It's kind of funny because Nor Cal'ers tend to think So Cal people are blonde headed beach boys while So Cal'ers think Nor Cal people are liberal hippies :D

I love where I live, so Kal-ee-for-nee-yuhhh for me! :p

DEFINITELY California. Its home sweet home for me...beautiful, mountainous, nice beaches, ski resorts, lovely weather...always mild and comfortable, nice people, diversity...I *love* California. In fact, I'd probably take California over any other state...not ONLY New York. :o:p:D California's climate is the best thing about it.

I voted for CA but I'd only live there if I could live in northern CA, the weather is more my style up there, not quite AS hot & the scenery is better, less big cities.

I live in NY right now :p , upstate that is. It's a very nice state but although I like the snow I HATE driving in it & I HATE the cold.

And besides the people on the west coast seem different, nicer. :D

Since this is home I would have to say California, I live more in the north or central valley, I am 2 hours from the beach or the snow, it does get very hot here in the summer though so when I get older I would LOVE to buy a home at the beach but the prices are outragous.

I really don't care much for southern ca, no offense to anyone there it is just too crowded and fast for me, in the north we have lots of trees, whenever I go to LA I miss all the trees.

As someone who is currently living in California.....NEW YORK!!!!!

I've never been to either, but i voted california purely because it would be warm and i don't think that i could adapt to city life.

But i am a purebred Lancashire Lass at heart;) and somehow i would be out of place in somewhere that wold have nice beaches and warm weather!

Having lived in Southern California for a loooonnnng time..........I am staying put.

We have often joked that ALL IN ONE DAY - we could go to the beach, get in the car and drive to the mountains and SNOW........and then drive to the desert and have time to relax in all three situations.

In the summer we can have really HOT days - but it doesn't last that long and it never has the humidity the east coast has.

Northern California is very beautiful.

Last year we had an unusual amount of rain - this season (so far) we haven't had as much rain.

All of that said, I miss the change of seasons - but I could live a lifetime without dealing with snow and cold temperatures.

New York!!! I love New York!
I lived in upstate New York until I was 13 and part of me really misses it there. I'd never live in New York City, I'm not at all a city girl. I love it upstate though. People always seem to think of New York state as New York City, but The whole state isn't one big city after another. My family (extended family, not my parents) owns a big dairy farm in New York. I had hardly been to a city until I moved down here to Florida.

When people say a "New York accent" they are usually referring to people who talk like Joe Pesci. However not all people who are from New York state speak with a "New York accent", it depends on where in NY they're from.

Well, if we are talking about the entire state of New York, I would say definitely New York. If we are talking about NYC then I say California. I am NOT a city person in any way, shape or form! I enjoy the change of climates and have grown up on the east coast and like it here.

If I could move anywhere I would go further south, but still be close to the Atlantic ocean. So, I guess that leaves both New York and California out. :p

I am not too sure. I would want to live in New York because of the cold weather and the wider variety of things to do. I am tired of living in a small city with insanly hot weather all year round. but i would want to live in california because it seems more not-so-big-city-ish, meaning there are some really cool things to do dealing with nature etc.

I will have to stay undecided :)

Just to let everyone know in northern/central california we definetely have 4 seasons. I don't particular care for the summers though, it gets up to 110 in the summer and can freeze/snow in the winter.

CA for sure...I lived there for 3 years before KY and loved the weather:) But I think I like the environment better here. Anyone know where Simi Valley is? (that's where we lived near L.A.) ;)

Interesting thread. I'm a transplant to California. I'm originally from Indiana, so I can say the thing I love about where I live now(northern CA) is definitely the weather and things to do. I can never use the excuse "there's nothing to do", because I can go to the ocean whenever I want, go to wine country, go to dog parks, visit historical sites (Hearst Castle anyone?), and the list goes on. I also love the diversity. I've been introduced to so many new and wonderful ethnicities/religions/foods out here...it's great!

When I first moved here, I really did miss the four seasons of Indiana at first, but now that I've lived here for several years, I have noticed the 4 seasons more than I used to. I'm not a big city person, so NYC would be out, but I bet upstate New York is beautiful. I don't much care for really hot weather, so southern cal is fun to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Northern CA is definitely for me! :D
