Update on #2750 ... I saw Bob in church on Christmas Eve and again this past Sunday - he looks a-ma-zing! And said he is feeling well, too and appreciated all of the prayers that were said for him.

First request for 2013 isn't really a request but what I put on our gratefulness.org group page ... Dear God, thank You for all of the very special people, cats, dogs and pets of Pet Talk!

Going through a very tough time, and I think this weekend will be one of the hardest things I'll ever have done in my life. I will be going down to visit my grandparents for the weekend, and most likely it will be my last time to see my grandpa. He is currently battling advanced lung cancer. They live 4 hours away. So seeing them everyday wasn't something I could do. I am very upset and all I can do is cry all day today. My aunt informed me that I can't hug him or kiss him when I see him or when I leave. So Mike will be coming with me, Ryder as well. We are bringing Ryder mostly for my grandma who loves dogs, and I know, it will help her. Please include me and my family (and my grandma/dad's side of family) in your prayers. Thank you. :(

He is 78 yrs old, and was hospitalized a couple of weeks ago with pneumonia - and congestive heart failure, and also probable kidney issues. He is not in the best of health to start with, being diabetic and having carotid stents and high blood pressure, along with other issues. It was discovered that he has a serious heart murmur and will probably need a valve replacement, however in his present state would not survive open heart surgery. The cardiologist gives him another 2-5 years at best. He is still undergoing tests, so I'm praying that a solution can be found, to extend that expectation.
He could sure use some powerful PT prayers at this stage of the game..........

Thank you. I know at 78 he's already lived a good long and active life, and surpassed in longevity, all the other males on my father's side of the family - father, brother, uncles, nephew, cousins - who all passed on between 40 and their early 70's. Somehow tho, you always want more. I'll be calling him sometime this week to see how his other tests have gone. I'm praying for the best. I always said that he'd probably outlive me, and I'm the youngest. He's the oldest of the 3 kids and the most ornery - so he just may do it yet! :)

My friend Mary, who's a couple of years younger than me and has three children, has been on chemotherapy for recurrence of a brain tumor for over a year. The tumor has stopped responding to the chemotherapy and she will be starting on a new medication probably next week. Please pray that the new medication will work.

Thank you,
Elyse

I got an e-mail about Mary today. She had a seizure and her doctor ordered a new MRI of her brain. The tumor looks different on this MRI and Mary's doctors are not yet sure if the tumor has grown or if there is still swelling related to her radiation. Her husband has been out of town for work, but he's coming home. Could you please keep Mary and her family in your prayers again.

Thank you,

Late last week it was reported in the local news that a young man had been struck by a freight train, and was killed. It appeared he had intentionally stepped in front of the train. I found out today it was a young man who had gone to the same high school as my youngest niece - he was one year ahead of her. Talented family involved in music and theater, as was my niece - so I recognized the name. Sad that someone so young chose the option he did. Maybe he felt like he had no other choices or that his life would not get any better :(
So if you could say a prayer for Jacob's family, please.

Thank you,
Elyse

I just spoke with my brother. He was back down to FL and consulted with the specialist where he had been treated before, and the news isn't all that great. Without surgery and a valve replacement, he probably only has a year left. They wanted him to stay and have surgery done right away, but he elected to go back to NC and get things in order first. :( He will go back to FL and have an aortic stent on 4/28, and the following day will have the valve replacement- open heart surgery since his arteries are too constricted for them to thread thru with the new valve. I just don't have a good feeling at all about all of this. I pray that I'm wrong. Please remember him in your prayers - I think he really needs all that he can get.

I would also like to ask that you think of my friend Clare, the one who lives in England. She had anal cancer over 5 years ago and went to hell and back w/surgery, chemo/radiation, etc. She's been cancer free but now she is having surgery tomorrow for adhesions. She doesn't seem upset about it but I'm probably concerned b/c I can't be there. I've asked that someone from her family call or email me but she told me not to count on it. None of them are good about that sort of thing and I don't want to call her until I know she's up to it.

Medusa - my mom had surgery about a year and a half ago for adhesions. They had formed from a much earlier surgery and caused a bowel blockage. It was a 2 hour surgery but fairly straightforward. They just had to cut loose the bands of tissue that were literally tying up organs.

Hugs to all.

Hi PT friends,
For the past 4 weeks I've been down with pneumonia and Groucho has been a real lovebug. Yesterday I had a follow-up with the pulmonary doctor. Dr. Reed is an animal lover and wears a stuffed hedgehog on her stethiscope. After a breathing test, Dr. Reed determined there is a breathing obstruction with 3 possible causes. One possibility is Groucho and just the thought is devastating. We talked about him and I told the doctor he has been with us for 12 years with no problems. Today I ask for your prayers that Groucho isn't even part of the problem and if he is, it can be treated. Another test is scheduled for June 26 to tell us more. No matter what the test shows, Groucho is here to stay!

Will absolutely say a prayer that Groucho is not adding to the issues.

Asking for a prayer of my own... my migraines have been in full force since March. I've missed more work than I've actually worked. It's as bad as it was (worse, in fact) when I took my 4 month leave of absence back in Sept 2009. Can you all say a prayer that this darn migraine phase just goes away... I'm so tired of it and all the side effects (the horrible nausea, numb face, blurry vision, stumbling around, the aura, losing words, just every stupid side effect you can think of that has ever accompanied a migraine hits me with mine). They are debilitating and even though I applied for disability, I was denied because I do not meet the ssdi disability requirements. I'm not disabled by their standards, even though these literally knock me on my butt for days and sometimes WEEKS. Chronic migraines SUCK. I would not wish them on anyone.

Anyway, please say a prayer that this migraine cycle ends, because I am at my wits end.

Asking for prayers for my grand daughter, Lauren. She is in the hospital - mom and dad (Amy (Cincy's Mom) & Ralph (Sadie's Dad) are with her and will be spending the night with her. She has had some kind of virus or something - has had it for over a week now. For several days she wouldn't eat anything but drank quite a bit. Has been running low grade fever. Main symptoms is not urinating for long spans of time - 7-10 hrs and uncomfortableness/irritability. In hospital mostly for testing. She is 20 months old now, can't really tell us what is wrong. Copied from Facebook -- this is a post from Lauren's aunt Christy:
"Please keep my niece in your prayers! she has made improvements in the last 24 hours and if they continue, she may not need to have the bone marrow test they have scheduled for tomorrow morning. Poor girl has been sick for a week and a half and in the hospital since Monday."

(I'm typing this at 6AM, Chicago time, on Friday 7/5 and Facebook tells me this was posted 9 hours ago, so it's an update from late in the day on Thursday 7/4.)

^^This was in early April. To make a very long story short - the tumor had grown again. Mary went through another surgical procedure, and the repeat MRI showed that it only helped for a few weeks. Take solace knowing that she is now at peace and suffering no more. I worked with 3 women - all in their 40's and 50's - that passed away far too young from brain tumors. It just didn't seem fair for them to be taken in the prime of their lives.

Aww, so sad you had to give up Misty! I hope she went to a good home! Maybe you should just concentrate on saving money up now, instead of getting another horse right away? Well no, this horse is in Wisconsin and I am totally willing to go that far for him, because I'd rather travel far for a great horse than barely go a few miles and get a cheap trail quarter horse. The price they are asking is very reasonable but it is just the distance that bothers my folks. and my twin sister is also getting one. Unfortunately she is abusing the situation even though I went through loss, frustration, blood, sweat and tears to give us the opportunity, and she still neglects it. She wants to get a horse at a local stable and if my Dad finds out there are some horses for sale there he will force me to get one there too. She isn't much help either. I just don't know how to convince my parents to drive me there and get this horse - it really bothers me about how they are treating me after I lost Chester and now Misti:(

Karen

09-19-2013, 02:23 PM
I am sorry about Misti and Chester, I really am. No one deserves all that heartbreak, but if it's your parents decision, you're lucky to even be getting another horse. You're lucky your parents have offered to pay for everything as it is. I know that seems mean, but if it's their money they can tell you to do whatever they want. Things have a way of working themselves out and I think you'll wind up with the right horse you want in the end.

I remember when I was younger being promised a horse, until my parents realized how expensive it was. I took horse-riding lesson and did a few little rodeos and stuff. I loved all of that but unfortunately, never got my horse. :(

I would like some good thoughts and prayers as I head out to BC this evening. I'll be there for 9 days to assist my elderly cousin in looking at seniors housing. He is fairly capable but needs people around, regular meals, and a walker etc. He isolates far too easily, especially living in a 3 storey walkup. He is generous and has me use his Air Miles to fly there. All I pay are the extra fees and taxes.

This isn't a holiday for fun, though I'll do my best to have some! ;) I didn't think I was too tense in spite of all the sorting of places to see, making appointments, cat sitters, drive to airport (my car needs repairs so will be in the shop while I am away). Last night I yelled at some woman to "Go f*** yourself!" (Someone I know, but still...). That is so NOT me.

I pray I can be the person I need to be today, in BC and back home.

Thanks.

I hardly am able to get on PT much these days, but I was wondering if you guys could keep my sister in your thoughts tomorrow. She is having surgery to take a biopsy from some of her tissues, having her appendix removed, and some of her lymph nodes removed, too. About a month ago they discovered a very large tumor on her ovaries and had emergency surgery to remove it. Tests came back as stage 1 cancer, but they don't think it spread. Still, precautions are being taken. I'd appreciate it if we could send her those good ol PT prayers for a speedy recovery! :)

I'm asking your prayers for our Pastor's daughter Michaela. She was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago when she was 14 years old. At 16 she's doing great. Mika's next follow-up MRI is scheduled for December 27 and I'm asking for your prayers that the test comes back with good results.

Sorry it has taken me so long so see this! Everything went good and all came back clear. Yay! :D She had a few complications after surgery and had to go back to the ER twice and had to stay in the hospital longer than expected, but now she is feeling much better. Thanks for the well wishes. :)

Prayers for our Pet Talker lbaker, who has no computer right now so has been absent from the board lately. She could use our prayers as her son passed away (from lung cancer) about a week after we all said good-bye to Gini (from tuberculosis). She is sad, and lonely, and could use prayers pr even phone calls, although she did not ask for either when she called me, just to let me know she is missing us all.

My mom is 80. Her Parkinson's had gotten a fair bit worse, and her blood pressure is yo-yoing, which is part of the illness. We see her neurologist on Monday and hopefully adding a med etc will get her feeling much much better.

She had her checkup with her GP a few days ago, and was sent for a mammogram and ultrasound. She had that today...and is scheduled for a biopsy on Friday morning.

Prayers and all good thoughts would be much appreciated.

Mom had the biopsy this morning. It took only half an hour. I stayed with her at her place for a bit. We watched the replay of the opening ceremonies in Sochi. The nurse had suggested that Mom take an acetamenophin tablet (Tylenol) before the freezing wore off. She did.

I have been out and busy all day and up since 6 am so am a little brain-faded. We see her neurologist on Monday and are hoping that an increase in meds and the addition of another one will make a tremendous difference. Then a week from Tuesday there is an appointment at her GP to get results.

Thank you so very much for all the prayers and good wishes and thoughts!:love::love:

I am so sorry I did not come back and update. They had to make the difficult decision we all dread to let Troy go. So young!! :(
They didn't waste any time in getting a new puppy though. Her son was missing Troy so she got a new GSD puppy named Mays (after baseball great Willie).
This is a great pet family. They had another GSD who recently went to the bridge as well, but he was about 13 years old. They also have a 10 or 11 year old min pin.
I didn't want anyone to think they rushed into getting another pet too soon.

A few days before Easter an oxygen tank exploded in a room at the Princeton Medical Center. A member of our church is a nurse there, one of her patients was killed. A friend of hers, who is also a nurse at the hospital, was severely injured suffering burns over 80% of her body. She was air lifted to a burn center in Philadelphia. This nurse is the mother of two small children and her husband is an emotional wreck over the situation with his wife and doing the best he can for their children. I'm pleading for your prayers for the injured nurse, her husband, and the children. They have a difficult road ahead. There's no current word on her condition. There's an investigation in progress to determine the cause of the explosion.

Thanks everyone. Keep those prayers coming. Biopsy results indicate uterine cancer.
Waiting for the doctor to call to get surgery scheduled. They don't know what stage it is until after they examine the removed uterus. They will take out lymph nodes also. If they are cancer free then I will not need chemo or radiation.

Bobcat is holding up well. Cammie is ignoring me (as usual). Pepper acts like I don't even live here (as normal) and Willow continues to be my sweet, snuggly girl. Just an FYI. I came home from the hospital yesterday after my back surgery on Wednesday. All went well as expected, and the pain in my hip and leg is gone. I had a first time bad reaction to anesthesia tho - something I never had previously - a wicked migraine and severe nausea. It took from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday evening for them to find a combo of meds to relieve both. I was soooooo sick! Once that was remedied, I felt fine, or as fine as could be expected. I'm tired and feel like I was run over by a bus, but that's to be expected. I ain't no kid no more! I can't do much of anything - including driving  until after my first post-op appointment in a couple of weeks. Everything's cool - right???? - not so fast. I was getting dressed to come home, and I ruptured the tendon in my left shoulder. Of course I said nothing to them at the hospital, since there was no way I was staying any longer - I'll just deal with it later. I've been keeping heat on it when possible, and I have the muscle relaxers and pain meds for my back, and that's about the only thing they would do for it anyway. I tore the one in my right shoulder 7 years ago, so now I have matching "popeye arms". Never a dull moment here!:D

It's good to be home! :)

I am so glad that Pomtzu is home! I lit candles for Kuhio98 and for Pom :D

Major major prayers needed folks.

Long story short - a woman I know is severely alcoholic. We thought she had hit her "bottom" recently when she was hitchiking home and got a ride with a guy in a truck. She started drinking. Heavy dose of date rape drug in booze. He "offered" her at every truck stop between here and northern Ontario before she got his cell phone and called her (now ex) fiance. Truck was pulled over, guy arrested, friend in hospital, flown back home.

She stayed with her dad - I visited her on Sunday. She went back to her fiance's home in another town. He drove her back to her dad's place early this morning - he was just done. She was drunk again on six bombers and a mickey of vodka.

This evening neither he nor I can reach her. Her dad's home number suddenly has a French message on an answering machine. Apparently earlier today she hacked her legs and arms to find out if she is still alive.

He has called the cops and they are on their way over. I am worried for the dad. And her.

I know this sounds like a bad movie. But it is really happening.

Prayers, PLEASE. :(

UPDATE: She is at a city hospital that has a psych ward waiting for assessment. Her father is with her and ok. Thank you!

Thanks, Karen and Pat. This woman's fiance heard from the father last night. He is ok. I guess they had gone to the local Urgent Care where the Mental Health dept is and they called an ambulance. She was getting a psych assessment at a city hospital last night but was too drunk for it to be completed so it will be done this morning. Apparently she had a brain injury some years ago (I never could tell!) and has really gone off the deep end in the last three months. The three of them were already seeing an addictions psychiatrist here, but she obviously needs a different intervention at the moment.

All is as well as it can be. Thanks so much for the prayers and thoughts.

The animal was stuck after washing ashore near a popular beach in the area. (Josie Osborne/Facebook)

Vancouver, British Columbia – According to workers at the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre of the Vancouver Aquarium, the false killer whale calf found struggling for its life on the shores of the Vancouver Island city of Tofino has survived the night, but an uphill battle still remains if it is to survive, reports (http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/false-killer-whale-calf-recovering-at-vancouver-rescue-centre-1.2703713) the CBC.
Initially, rescuers thought to take the calf to deeper waters where it would be able to swim away to safety, but upon seeing that it was too weak to do that contacted staff at the aquarium who decided to take it to their facility for intensive care.

https://vine.co/v/MxzF2qMaD2I (or go to link to see very short video of the little guy in therapy)

Its proper gender wasn’t determined as being male until the first night as dedicated staffers took turns dawning wetsuits to keep the calf floating above the water of the rehab pool housing it. As per Martin Haulena, the aquarium’s head veterinarian, the difficulty that lies ahead with the calf, which he described as being in critical condition, relates to disconcerting drops in the mammal’s respiratory and heart rates. Thus far, staff have performed diagnostic tests on it and are caring for it with the aim of having it gain weight. By their estimates, this calf is very young have been born no more than six weeks ago. Haulena also confirmed that the calf hasn’t the strength to swim on its own.
For now, the calf is in a rehab pool better suited to support its small size. It is being nourished on a mixture of specially designed formula for its sort of marine mammal, along with other fluids and antibiotics. Given that the calf has not yet developed teeth, Haulena said it was still nursing from its mother. Odds are against the calf surviving. Adding to the difficulty is that there is little global experience caring for stranded false killer whales much less one as young as this one.

I have two friends who are in difficult situations. A friend from high school is moving her father into a memory care center next week. He is forgetful and at times gets angry because of all that he can't remember. A friend from college e-mailed me that her mother entered hospice care a few days ago and isn't expected to live very long. :( Two long time friends and my heart aches for both of them.

My college friend's mom passed peacefully at the hospice, with her family there. I'm glad they were able to be present. Have not talked to my friend from high school yet this weekend, but I'll re-post if I get an update.

Thank you again,
Elyse

A couple I know have a son who was adopted when he was a baby. He has grown up with ADD and the parents finally tried meds after trying every other option. He can manage fine.

He was 16 and his GF moved in with the whole family as her home life was not very good. She was expecting though very few people were told.

I got back Tuesday morning from my cousin's inurnment and was checking obits for another friend who had passed away, and I got a shock. The wee baby girl, after kicking and everything for the past few months, was born full term - but still born.

I can't imagine this pain except it must resemble being ripped in half.

Prayers, please, for the expectant grandparents, aunts and uncles, and the young parents themselves. There was solid family support and that baby would have wanted for nothing, especially love.

Thank you.

Candace, there are no words that can come close to explain the intense pain along with so many other thoughts and feelings parents feel at the loss of their child at birth. I only wish there was something I could say or do that would comfort them at this tragic and difficult time. If I may ask, when you see them please extend my deepest heartfelt sympathy on a parent's hardest loss and assure them they are in my prayers. The entire family will be placed on our prayer list at church.

My SIL Maureen and her hubby Doug could use a BIG dose of PT prayers if anyone out there in PT land should read this.

A week ago, Doug had what should have been a simple hip replacement, but it was not that easy slam-dunk that they were hoping for.. He suffered some very serious and life threatening complications and is presently in a hospital/rehab facility. He was doing somewhat better yesterday, and if he continues to improve, then could be released to home on Sunday, and receive home health care. He has a very long recovery ahead of him.

And to make it all even more stressful, Maureen will be remembering a very sad anniversary, the first week in September. Ten years ago in 2004, her (and my middle brother's) son and only child, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 40 - just 5 months after his father passed at the age of 64.

Please send some good wishes and positive vibes to these 2 good people.

Thanks for reading.

Prayers for Doug and Maureen, and all who love them.

Even routine surgery can become suddenly non-routine. We lost a dear PTr not long ago - I think she went in for a hip replacement as well, and never woke up.

Good news that Doug is improving, and I pray and hope he regains good health soon.

Thank you Candace. Doug had other health issues, but this series of events was very unexpected.

And yes - I remember Terry's story very well. It was a "simple" knee replacement - tho she had many issues with an already botched knee replacement prior to that.

Please pray for relief from the severe and devastating drought in California. According to tonight's news, many people can't get what they need for showers and other basics. One woman said their well went dry 3 months ago and after work her husband keeps digging deeper with little success. Emergency drinking water is coming in but the farmers are being hit especially hard. To our PT friends in California feeling the effects of this record breaking drought, you're in my thoughts and prayers for this to end very soon. If you can, let us know if we can help in any way.

Please send some prayers and warm vibes for my sister in law's foster kitten, Bramble. Her gait has been off for a few days now, and today X-rays showed a spine so curved that a bunch of discs are compressed. She is also extremely constipated, and if she can't poop on her own will need to be euthanized. Even if she can poop on her own, she's likely to have only a short time in this world before her curved spine becomes too painful to bear. She's so sweet, playful and beautiful, we're both crushed by the news. I don't know if this photo will show up, but I'll link it anyways...

This is a long shot - PT prayers needed for a miracle.

Two friend of mine had one of their two cats do a "door dart". This was on Wednesday September 24th. He would usually be back the next morning but wasn't...a neighbour said they spotted him by a nearby school but the owners couldn't find him when they looked.

It's a new area in our town and has its share of wild critters. It's been about 10 days now.

This is a prayer for Greg, who is the son of one of the ladies in my church choir. He went to Washington (state) on a driving trip and while there, his car was found abandoned in a ditch. He has a medical condition, and they're not sure if he had his medications with him or not. They called a Silver Alert which I think is the adult equivalent of an Amber alert. He's been missing since last week Tuesday. So if you could pray for Greg and his mom (Vivian). I met him a couple of times in singles group at church. I cannot imagine what his mom is going through right now.

Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of when my Granny passed away. :(

Some of you may have seen this on facebook... My dear friend Billie has been in ICU for 2 weeks fighting for her life. She is on life support. She & I worked together for many years, and she retired a couple of years ago and moved to Washington. We have kept in touch, though. She has been in town helping her oldest daughter and... well, as you can guess, she fell ill. My heart is so sad for her and the family. The girls (gosh they are just almost as old as I am) have asked if I want to go see her. I need to think long and hard about it. And pray on the matter. Billie is unresponsive (and has been for the entire time she's been in the hospital) and her kids have been told to get prepared to make THAT CHOICE.

I don't have many regrets. We have kept in touch. And in almost all of our emails we signed off with, "love and miss you". She was like a mom to me at work.

I just need a miracle to happen for her.

PTers, I'm not sure if this made the national news so you may not have heard about it. We had some crazy weather west of Chicago earlier this week. There was a big tornado (category 4 - almost the most severe) that came through. It involved Fairdale, Illinois which is a small town about 75 miles northwest of where I live. About 50 homes in the town and every single one had damage. Many were damaged beyond repair. Then another one in Rochelle, which is part of the Rockford municipal area. Homes and buildings were damaged there too, but that one was not as severe as the one in Fairdale. The governor is making a visit to assess the damage and declare the counties as disaster areas, which means they will be entitled to federal funds. He is also giving $100,000 individually (as a contributor- not the state's money) to help, because it will take time for the state to get out there, get set up and start helping people. I bet the president will either come or send someone from his staff to make a visit, too. So if you could say a prayer for the people in Illinois who were affected by these spring storms.

I am fine. The power went out in my building but that happens a lot when the weather is crazy. These are not the kind of April showers I like!

Thank you,
Elyse

This tornado with its massive destruction was all over the news here. How sad, how tragic for all involved.

Prayers for all affected by such fierce storms.

So sorry to hear, prayers on the way! I guess we're all at the mercy of Mother Nature. Not looking forward to our turn.

I have a friend that thinks with her heart and not her head when it comes to her ne'er do well husband. I've been really worried about her. I'm really worried for her tonight. Please, send prayers that she will think before acting. She wants this marriage to work so bad that she will believe anything he tells her.

I'll explain more later.

I have a freind, sounds just like her. I'll send a prayer for sure but, sometimes a helluva lot more is required if ya know what I mean.

If she is believing everything he tells her to make the marriage work, that marriage isn't working at all - not by a long shot.

I hope she wakes up soon.

Aww, but it could be so many things. Wide awake or not, there's financial fears, domesic abuse that could be deadly and some people would rather be with a DB than be alone. Cultural issues, the list goes on and on...Sometimes action is in order, it is certainy uncertainable without the facts eh?

I don't have cable or satellite so I didn't hear about the tornadoes. So sorry that happened. It's scary. I managed to miss the storms (23 tornadoes) that hit NC a few years. The destruction was terrible. I was visiting my bro at the time.

Hugs to you. Prayers for all.

I was honest with her tonight. He supposedly had an almost rent free house for them. He's working in flooring and the boss had a few houses he could trade rent for work. She finally saw the house today or so she said. She wasn't thrilled but they didn't get to move in.

I told her point blank that I didn't' trust her husband and that I thought he made all of that up. They were evicted from their trailer because she was the only one working.

I'm not sure that she believes everything he says, but she wants this to work. So she lies to her friends and family. He's on prescription painkillers, too, and illegally I might add. SIGH.

She won't listen. Even her sister is posting on FB about making decisions and tagging her.

I care about her, but the drama is driving me nuts.

I think I'm going to work on reverse psychology.
