View Full Version : Stupid question about a bump

Ok, I feel silly asking this, but last night I was giving Abby chin scritchies, and I felt a nice bump under her chin. I'd say it feels about the size of a small pea. Its only on one side, right below her lip.

Could it be a rather large feline acne spot? Could it be that Pouncer was tormenting her during the day and gave her a small abcess?

Of course she went from nice purry girl to screaming banshee when I tried to get a closer look

I don't see any scratches, or puncture (the Pouncer concept) but I also don't see any enlarged pores or feline acne marks. She also doesn't seem to feel any pain when I touch it (she just doesn't like me to hold onto her, which is what I did in order to get a closer look)

Any ideas?

PS: Pouncer has stepped up the "pick on Abby" game. Since everyone LOVES the carrier being left out with the door open, I left it out, and everyone takes turns sleeping in it  Well, Pouncer waits til Abby is in there, all nestled and cozy... then he swoops in and has her cornered. Bascially, all he he does is poke his paw at her. Rather like brothers who touch their sister's leg, and then wait for her to scream, "mom! he's touching me!" You should hear the fuss she makes, and all the while he has a smile on his face. Then I move him away and he has the look of "what did I do????"

Hmmm, could it possibly be a bee/wasp sting? Zsa-Zsa had one a while ago. But you say it's not hurting her, so maybe not....

No bees here at the moment. Though I hadn't thought of a spider or any other bug bite. Odd, isn't it?

It probably is acne,as the Found Cats get those, once in a while, and they generally go away by themselves.
Thats funny,I can just see Pouncer being a Little Pest.
I guess Pouncer Angels got a bit of tutoring to do yet.

No idea about the bump, but I love you description of Pouncer "attacking" Abby. Same thing happens at my house except Peanut is in her house instead of in a carrier - thus the new back door I had to cut into her house so she has an escape route if CJ really does get too rambunctious, which seems to happen often these days. :D

I would keep a eye on that bump and see if it gets any worse or bothers her..

What is this with Pouncer... he is trying to worry YOU to death and being a bully to Abby? Could that be because of how he has been feeling or has he always picked on her?

Abcesses are usually mushy (like a pimple that needs to be popped). I put some hydrogen peroxide on it just incase it's infected. Also try a warm wet cloth see if the bump breaks open.

I would probably try what Craftlady suggested on the bump.

Now, that Pouncer ... what a Nawteeeeee boy .... gotta love him!!!! :D

LOL... holding a warm damp cloth to Abby? I'd have better luck nailing Jello to a tree! I wouldn't exactly call it mushy, but it does have some give and is soft.

Laura, once upon a time they liked each other. Then right before she was spayed, he started to really go after her. At the time, I think it was just his reaction to her "womanly" scent. But then she didn't trust him after the weeks of his chasing her so she decided that he was no good and reacts to him whenever he's near. She's the one who starts things between them more than he starts with her. When he starts things, he's like a pesty brother who wants to get things started, and the carrier has been a perfect opportunity to really terrorize her.

It probably is a kitty pimple. Goldie used to get those. The warm compress (nailing jello technique :D ) and a dab o' Neosporin or other antibiotic cream should help.

It's probably just a pimple. Pearl had one on her ear and I also thought it was an abcess at first. I mentioned it to my vet but she since she's still a kitten she wasn't too worried. I kept my eye on it and it eventually disappeared so hopefully this will be case with Abby too. :)
