The stockier labs are often known as English Labs. Both breeds can be shown but the English is more of the "original" lab.

That's actually wrong ;)

My girls are field Labs and they do not fit the breed standard. Luka might if her ears were shorter, her underbite were not there, her choco patch was not there, and she gained about 10 lbs, but ... yeah ;)

Nova does not fit the breed standard too well but she is still a Lab. Field Lab wise, she looks fine, but there are many different types within the Field Labs.

And they can be referred to as English but amongst breeders this can get confusing. The correct terms are "show" and "field" as there are English and American Field Labs and American and English Show Labs (and some are of both decents).

Here is a good page in case you're interested: English or American Lab? (http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/english-american.html)

And the two hardest groups that contain almost all of my favorite dogs...

Hound-- Beagle. I have to pick them, because they've practically never NOT been in my life. Rhodies, Scottish Deerhounds, Irish Wolfhounds, and Bloodhounds are also huge faves of mine.

Working-- Mastiff. But you could pick just about any sort of mastiff, and be sure that I am madly in love with it. Also, Dobies, St. Bernards, Great pyr, and Anatolian shepherds are dogs I love in this group.

I'm just browsing through a small book with a few breeds in each group, so there could be a different favorite in some catagories but I don't feel like looking up all the breeds per group. ;) I'm only naming one though there are several breeds in most catagories I like.

Sporting: Golden Retriever

Hound: Basenji

Working: SIBERIAN HUSKY! :D

Terrier: Miniature schnauzer

Toy: Papillon

Non-sporting: Dalmatian

Herding: German Shepherd

Overall I'd have to say the Working and Herding groups have most of my favorite breeds.

I am afraid that my choices will be mostly based on dogs of that breed that I personally know. :)

Sporting - cocker spaniel (my co-worker & also Rachel's Tucker ;) )
Herding - shetland sheep dog (my co-worker and Shelteez' two gorgeous dogs)
Terrier - westie (my brother)
Toy - toy poodle (me - had two in the past)
Non-sporting - poodle - standard or mini ;) (me - had/have these too! )
Hound - basenji (my sister-in-law)
Working - greater swiss mountain dog (my daughter's dog, Harlee, and RB Dale ;) )
