For the past two months there has been a bird in the infirmary at work, a male Cockatiel who was missing lots of feathers. Nothing was wrong with him as far as his health was concerned but apparently his previous owners brought him back after three weeks in a shoebox. He was missing most, if not all, of the feathers on and underneath his wings. The previous owners had another cockatiel who had picked on him to the point where he was injured and would cower in the corner of their cage because he was scared. So they dropped him off IN A SHOEBOX!!!!

Anyway I discovered him when I started at PetCo last month. He was very friendly, VERY talkative and loved attention, and he could even whistle the theme song to the Andy Griffin Show! :) But he was afraid of hands; he just didn't like them and would bite you.

HJ's parents have a female cockatiel named Soleil (French for "sun") and I was talking with his father about Sonny and he was interested in adopting him as a surprise for HJ's mom.

Today I took him home! He had a vet visit yesterday and deemed a clean bill of health. The missing feathers on his wings will probably never grow back, but despite some physical flaws he is a VERY cheery and handsome boy!

We introduced him to Soleil today, and myself and my managers were concerned that since a cockatiel was what had beat him up before that he would be afraid and scared, but him and Soleil got along wonderfully. In fact, he put on such a show that Soleil got jealous!

I don't have pictures of him yet, but I will try to get some tomorrow when I go back to visit his parents'. :D

It just angers me how someone could put this sweet bird through that! :( But now he has a wonderful home with a BIG cage, a new roommate and a family that loves him!
