I think my Felix is constipated :( .I cleaned out his litter pan the day before yesterday and there are only a few little hard pieces in there from yesterday? He has been really sookie(Talkative)this past couple of days and I felt his stomach its kinda hard. And now looking at him he looks a little bloted.

Felix has been constipated before because he dont vomit and the only way he passes the furballs is well lets just say...out his back door :o the last time we were at the vet for this the Dr. perscribed Felix "Tonic-Lax"-A laxative, this is to be taken on a regular basis, long term,to loosen the stool.

I gave him a dose 5am this morning,he looks so Pitiful.

I was wondering since I got the meds here for him.How long should I wait to bring him back to the vet.I was thinking I will give him a daily dose for two days (he normally takes it once a week) if he still dont pass anything than take him back to the Dr.Like say Monday...is that too long, you think? Should I feed him the same/as much?Should I only stick with the soft food until he uses?(He has both soft and hard available at all times)

Any help will be appreciated.
I wish there were more I could do :(

Poor little guy. I am of no help since my guys manage quite well to cough those things up (too well in fact! ) I wish I had some good advice for you.

I would suggest that once he's done with this iossue to give him daily doses of hairball remedy. Temptations make an awesome Hair Ball Remedy treat! It really DOES make a difference!

:) When my babies are constipated I give them a small amount of chicken broth in a bowl & they love the broth & it works everytime..

There are Hairball remedy Dry Cat Foods that have a certain amount of laxative in them, and I hope that you can help Felix to a state of regularity once again.
Thats not good being all blocked up,for Cats or People.

Thanks for the suggestions. If you have anymore please let me know.I hate seeing him like this :(

To the already suggested:

I will have to buy those temptation treats(I have them there but not for hairballs)

I will try the chicken broth later tonight.I just gave him some tuna juice,he only had a little thou.

I cant give Felix hairball food because he is already on food prescribed from the vet. Here (http://www.entirelypets.com/entirelypets/felinecd.html) is what he is on.

Pouncer's on that too! Poor boys.

The package for the Temptations says (I thnk) to give about 10 treats a night, I felt that was too many, especially since he is on a special diet - I didn't want to upset the balance created by the Hills CD. So I give him about 4 or 5 and thats enough.

I was told by the vet to give them canned pumpkin. NOT pumpkin pie filling but plain pumpkin and continue it daily as long as there is a problem. 2 Tablespoons, I think?

Misty was costipated when she was a year old. She was so doctor had to give here and enama to get the hairball out. After that I keep giving her the haiball remedie stuff and she has problems now and then but doing much better throwing up the hairballs. In her litter box I can tell when she is having problems and instead of everyother day on hair ball remedie I give it to her everyday till I think things are looking better. Sorry to hear little one is having problems.

Gosh, I can't tell you all how much I appreciate your replies to this subject. I lost a kitty to constipation many years ago but now my new little girl seems to be having the same kind of problems. I am going to try the chicken broth and Vaseline or olive oil until I can get to the store to buy the hairball remedy. I wonder if the fact that she won't drink anything but milk (which I water down about 1/4; any more than that and she snubs liquids altogether) isn't contributing to the problem. Anything dairy and she's right there nagging me for it. I tried a half teaspoon Fiberall with 1/4 C. water and a tablespoon of cream (for her favorite flavoring) this morning so I'm not sure if that will work yet or not. Here's hoping
