When you posed the rhetorical question "Who was Riley - as in 'Life of Riley' anyway?", it took me back to my childhood - many moons ago (like about 600+), when there was a radio show called "The Life of Riley". He was kind of a goofy character but a lovable one nonetheless.

Aside from the title, the only thing I remember from the show was that the government began "C.A.R.E." packages for the needy. Anyway, the title character informed everyone that they were named for HIM - Chester A. Riley, Esquire.

That's probably a lot more than you wanted to know but ...

I listen to the Old Time Radio,every night,and love The Life Of Riley.
Riley was well played by Character Actor William Bendix.
The Funniest Character was Digby '' Digger" O Dell,the Friendly Undertaker.
And Dyaln ias as relaxed as a Cat can be,sitting on his Cat Perch,waiting for each days New adventures.
