That's right - there is that "little wiggle" that you do when you are mixing it up. Man, I will never get that right! ;)

I want you all to know that just because I won't be there, doesn't mean that Canada won't be represented. I'm sending down a little package to be opened prior to the partee. Among the items will be my apron that I received last year. I will enclose a black permanent marker and I hope every attendee will sign it....you can use the front and back for writing.

Gini and Richard: could you please go over your signatures from last year and they are a bit faded. I'm really hoping to get it back minus any slushie stains....... :p :D

gini

Slick, it is a special ink that Richard and I found - and it fades in time - so we can never be accused of "being there" (with the ITT sisters et al.)

Huskymom - we just booked our trip so we will be there.

My husband was incredibly, pleasantly surprised when we went last year. He only went to make me happy, but he had a great time! You will not regret it. This was one of the best parties that I ever went to. PetTalk people are wonderful on the internet and they are just as wonderful in person.

I hope to see you there.

OMD....you've got me belly laughing.........

Next week, I'm mailing a package down to Gini. In it will be a little something for every attendee. Let's just say that you will go home with a small sampling of what KA-NA-DA is all about and perhaps even a bit of me. Oh yes, and my apron will be there so all of you had better sign it for me. :) :D

Now, for my benefit, can we have an updated list of attendees please????

I was thinking about the BBQ, Slick and about how everything works out for the best, even though we can't see it at the time. (My favorite saying) Just think if Slick had not decided to cancel this year's trip to the BBQ when she did, and then she got the pneumonia she has now. I don't believe the airline would have given her her money back at this late date, so she would have been sick and out a bunch of money.

Still hoping and praying for a quick recovery, Slick! :)

Hi all, it looks like planning is in full force for the BBQ! I regret to say we may not be able to make it. I'm still looking into finding a place to stay. Original plans fell through, and my uncle's family is going through some trauma, so they really don't want visitors, which I can understand. :(

I'll keep looking for cheap alternatives, but if we can't make it, I hope you all have fun! :D

I have been reading this thread, with envy, of course. I wish, wish, wish we could come (or that just I could come). The timing doesn't work, once again. Scott and I are going to New York City at the end of this month for 5 days and we just came off of a week's vacation with our family a couple of weeks ago. Darn it. One day, I will be there!!!! Keep a spot for me, Gini.

I hope that you all will have a wonderful time.

Logan, EVERYONE, including me wishes that you could be at the BBQ too.
It would be wonderful to meet you - and share the craziness of the day!

A spot is always here for you - never fear.

It is getting down to the wire - but lists are made - shopping is being done - and it will soon be time for the airport runs. I have that route down to a "T".

The only thing that I am worried about is that it is supposed to be very HOT
here next week. I guess it IS July! :D

Hey - lets cheer up everyone - we're starting to sound like a dirge here. OK - so its smaller. OK - so some really cool and wonderful people won't be there and they will be missed and it will feel different. OK - so we don't have quite the frantic celebrating mood that permeated the 2005 thread -

we can still have fun  I won't see as many people - but I guess it means that I'll be able to spend more time with more individuals - that's a good thing. :D :D

I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but...the 1st BBQ was the smallest and was so fun! Each PT Meeting can be large or small, have the same attendees or have new ones...they're always fun and full of our PT pals. It shouldn't matter who isn't coming...you'll get to see new people or old friends! :) While we miss those that are unable to attend, we have our memories from the past and can make new ones in just a few days!! Yay!!

Oh...I think I've been neglecting my Kelly Kountdown!!!

Ready??

KELLY KOUNTDOWN: 4 DAYS TILL THE BBQ!!! FOUR days, that's sooooo great!!! (And really almost 3, its already 7:30 p over on this side!!) WOOHOO!!!

I hope everyone travels very safely and gets here in one piece. Cant wait to give you ALL hugs!! :)

Uppydate on Karen/Aaron (Wolflady & Scooters Dad)...they WILL be attending after all. I'm staying in a hotel room with them on Saturday night. I'll be spending a few hours with Karen/Aaron before the BBQ as we've only seen each other ONCE this year! :( :) It'll be nice. Anyway, we'll be there Saturday, they'll be in town till Sunday, and I don't have to work until Wednesday!! (I have to work Friday though, short staffing at work and I have NO vacation time as I've been ill again.)

But...it'll be worth it to be able to see my PT Family after that! :)

Can't wait!!! :D

Mary - I'm so glad to hear you are safe and sound and not wandering the streets. Now remember - don't talk too loud in Gini's backyard

We're packing now, (while watching "Army of Darkness") and will be on the plane tomorrow. Watch out LA!

Please don't forget to sign my apron, everyone. Hopefully it will arrive there today.

Actually, Mary and Gini are "inside" having morning coffee and talking about all of the kitties that have owned us.

Rascal just adores Mary - she has that special soft touch - and Annie not wanting to be left out - has shown up too. Emma - well..........she is under the bed.........her usual safe spot.

We are talking about getting the day underway...........

Staci arrives tonight - I will be tracking her flight (thanks to Phred).

Yes, Slick, I do have a picture of Mary at the airport - just as you asked.

Your package arrived a few days ago.........and I won't forget the apron

Mary, I'm SO glad you made it easily this year with no street roaming involved. However, just think of the excitement and drama you missed out on this year. Maybe you'll want to take a roam around the neighborhood in the wee hours......just for old time's sake? ;) :D

Another of the Chicks is winging her way westward ...

Delta and two of the Flight Trackers all say Staci's Big Byrd took off from
Columbus at 6:22 pm and headed off towards the left coast.

She's due to land at Los Angeles (LAX) about 7:38 pm CALIFORNIA time
or 10:38 pm EASTERN time. Se's on Delta Airlines flight 1451.

Zippy-Kat has a two-step adventure scheduled for tomorrow.

She gets on Southwest Airlines flight 690 at 10:25 am (Friday) in Midland-Odessa, TX
and appears to fly backwards in a time zone shift - arriving in El Paso, TX at 10:15 am - 10 minutes before she left! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/confused.gif

After an hour and a half layover, she gets on Southwest flight 305 at 11:50 am
for the 2 hour hop over to Los Angeles (LAX) - arriving 12:50 pm CALIFORNIA time
or 3:50 pm Eastern time.

So YOU'RE the one talking to my mom when I was trying to call her, huh? ;) Its OK, you're worth sharing her with! ((((Hugs))))

I too just got off the phone with Gini and Mary. Its so great the Mary is out here and she had a safe, uneventful flight! She didn't have to WAIT for Gini, isn't that great!?!? And we'll have all the way till Sunday to catch up...last year she had to leave too quickly for our liking. ;)

Know what they were doing??? Making Bailey's!!! haha

Well, Staci's in the air RIGHT NOW!! YIPPEE!!! I left her a message on her cell, she's going to get a kick out of me. I'm so excited she's going to be here.

I always have some "trouble" with a few of the colors;

Well, don't THAT beat it all wiffa stick!

That "sorta" works for me ...
If I *mouse-over* like I was going to copy her text -
it DOES become bold - but sure not "black".
The color DOES "darken" - so it shows up better against the background ...
but I STILL have to "strain" to read it.

Could I suggest a BLUE ...
or we have some lovely shades of PURPLE ...

10:30 pm Eastern = 7:30 pm California Time ...

And the BBQ Rages On!! http://petoftheday.com/i/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

I finally got through on Staci's cell dinger - after "Mom" gave up
and answered it.

Been on for at least an hour; and think I got passed around to most every
Family represented at the BBQ.

QUITE the Crowd - and judging from the "background level" - a GREAT TYME
is being had by One and ALL!

Nice chat with the Head BarKeep from Thursdays - reporting
all was well and all souls were responding with proper attitudes =
EBBERBUDDIE HAPPIE!!

We need to send the PhotoJournalists over to Station 29 for some snappies
of "Wilshire" - the new Station 29 Fire Mascot.
He's apparently not allowed on ride-alongs yet - since the Engine 29 Crew came
without him today - but he's becoming famous with a bit of a Tail that Pet Talkers
might appreciate.

Now ... since the Three GeoMutts an da Bus Driver are **BUSHED** from a long
afternoon of GeoCaching in the Cleveland MertoParks Hinckley Reservation ...
wer're gonna jump in the BigBed (as soon as I wake the Mutts UP)
and catch zome needed Zzzzzz's.

Nite All!!

I'm glad that everyone is having a great time but where are the pictures? I need to see just how much of a good time that everyone is having.:) It's been very hot here and is still about 100 degrees in the shade and about 90 degrees in my condo. Even though I don't drink any more, I sure could use a nice cold slushie right now.:)

HAH! Just hung up the phone from speaking with Cap't Finn...
Here's Captain Finn talking with you!

Of course with their truck sitting in the street everyone driving by assumed the LAFD was here on business. Who'd suspect it was a social call?

We're waiting for pictures and stories!

sigh - its just not fair - the day once again seemed to fly by in an instant. So much fun, so little time. Gini and Richard are taking Mary to the airport right now. I'm at Gini's house with Byron and Staci and Tonya. We came by to help clean up but the place is looking pretty good so far so we'll just eat more of Gini's food.

We're leaving for home later this afternoon. It was great seeing everyone. There's just nothing better than a PT meeting. :D :D

Our plane was delayed by two hours.

We're home now, all kitties present and accounted for. Sid's tail is looking much better although he is still sad at being separated from the rest while he heals.

Believe it or not, we escaped the heat wave by going to LA. Its still 79 degrees outside and its after midnight. Fortunately, we don't have to go to work tomorrow so we have one day to recuperate.

I made it home. too. No plane delays or excessive layovers. Nearly missed my flight at LAX though. Richard was in the bathroom so long, we left Gini's late. What WAS he doing in there? ;)

It was great to meet some new Pet Talkers, but we missed those that couldn't make it.

Gini is really special for putting this on every year. It's a lot of work and expense. I'm glad I could lend a hand, but wish I could have done more.

Great pics everyone - thanks!

Sara and Richard - I'm SO sorry I missed your return calls! After I....errr....Detective Francis of the LAPD called you, I set the phone right on the table so we wouldn't miss your return call. The phone never rang so I thought perhaps Sara left her phone at home or something. Sunday morning I saw there were two missed calls and two voice messages. I couldn't believe it when I listened and it was you two, shortly after I had called you no less! After much throwing the phone around trying to figure out why it hadn't rung, we discovered it was on "silent" mode. I have NO idea how it got there because I don't even know how to put it in silent mode, and between Terry and myself it took a good 20 minutes of going through menus to discover how to get it off of silent mode. Evidently "silent" doesn't include "vibrate" either, or that would have attracted out attention. The only thing I can figure is for some reason the universe conspired against us to prevent us from talking. :( Sounded like you guys were having a great time though, and I'm sorry I missed the call and the fun. Next year we're just going to have to arrange our travels so we're not far away from LA in July. ;)

Well this year my flight here was about 4 1/2 hours - non stop. No bugs this time. But I leave tomorrow nite so we'll see about on the way home.

I had this great post last nite but it wouldn't "take".
I'll repeat the first part of it tho b/c it was too cute.

T'was 8:00pm the nite after the PetTalk BBQ and not a creature was stirring except a New Mexican and Ohioan.
Gini and Kelly were taking naps and that left Tonya and I to amuse ourselves.
Soon after 830 tho Gini got up and Kelly woke up and we went out to a fabulous dinner at Maggiano's.
Today is shopping :)

Its almost time for the worst part of the BBQ...the ending. :(

We still have many more hours with Stace, Gini and I (Kelly)...they're "resting their eyes" and I believe Tonya will be taking off in about 15 minutes...I'm just catching up here.

Its been SO GREAT having everyone out here and spending time together. While we missed those that aren't able to be here, you're all here in spirit. It was great talking to those that called us on the phone!!

Hmm..usually its ME sleeping late or napping...ha ha.

After mom and Stace awake, we're going to Shutters, a gorgeous restaurant in Venice/Santa Monica, so Stace can see/touch the ocean...she hasn't seen that yet.

OK, off to check on the orangies and the porch kitties! They're sooo cute! Rascal has been the PUURRRRFECT host! He's such a love and just jumps right up on your lap when he feels he needs to...so cute! :)

After an hour lay-over, Zipp leaves New Mexico and flies over to Midland, Texas;

After an uneventful but scary first leg (turbulence) and an all-too-informative second leg (got to hear all about the marriage problems of the couple sitting next to me (he's having an affiar, she's lazy and doesn't excite him anymore -- oh yeah and "happy birthday honey, I forgot until just now"), I made impeccable time on the way home.

And what a homecoming! Mom said that when K'Cee heard my car pull in the drive way she booked it to the door. :D I missed my girl! She is, however, rather upset as my luggage and clothes smell "orange." (We're remedying this by rolling around on them as much as possible.) And since I brought her a pressie (pink glittery collar from the airport's Bow-Wow-Meow), all is forgiven.

At any rate, I made it home a couple of hours ago and all is well.

I believe Stace should be at the airport and Gini on the way back home (if not already there). Not sure if Kelly was going to the airport or back to Newbury Park...

Pics might have to wait until tomorrow. I'm getting ready to unpack my suitcase then (possibly) clean the mess that the window-installer-guys made today (dust EVERYWHERE). If I'm not fallin' asleep by then, I'll post 'em.

It is now 10:47 pm Los Angeles time - and Staci should be on the plane by now getting ready for the 11 pm takeoff.

While we were in the car going to the airport we got a phone call from Zipp that she was back on solid ground safely once again. That made all of us happy.

Kelly and I drove Staci to the airport and it was a very tearful goodbye - happily it was so crowded at the curb that no one rushed us to move the car as they usually do.

Kelly and I came back home and ate some leftovers and Kelly just left to go home and work tomorrow.

It is sooooo quiet in my house and very sad too - the end of another wonderful time with Pet Talkers. We keep saying Pet Talkers are the very best people in the world - this year proved that to be true once again.

So many people helped me in so many ways - it would take pages to thank everyone for all that they did - just know how deeply grateful I am for everything.

I am also grateful that I can put this event on - but MOST of all, I am grateful for the wonderful friends that I have met through Pet Talk - and how much fun, laughter and joy they have brought me.

This is the first year I can tell you that I am completely out of bottled water.......but there are plenty of slushie fixings left. Could it have been the heat? :D

Barbara, yes, I have a few more pictures to post - but not tonight. I know
others have more pictures too and they will eventually show up. We need to drag out the fun as long as possible :D :D .

Do you know what is just awful? "I" have to go to work tomorrow too.

Night everyone.................................

GREAT pics, everyone!! I was unable to bring my camera as its DEEP in my storage unit...I'm so glad everyone else had theirs though.

Now that I'm home and have had time to rethink this conversation with the fireman - I recall him saying that several dog trainers have been to work with Wilshire annnddd even

CESAR MILAN!!
He's been filmed there!
They have only Wilshire for about 2 months now so it might be next season before it is even aired. But wouldn't THAT be cool to see!

He told me that the show with Cesar Milan is to air in January.

I am sitting here shaking (forgive the pun) like a leaf. A huge branch has

Staci, of course, post your pictures.

The damage? I don't know yet. I really am still shaking although I called the tree surgeon and my insurance company.

But I don't think I want to go into the back door quite yet. The main branch is just hanging there and could give way at any time.

It breaks my heart, because I dearly love this tree.

But we had fun and should concentrate on that fun - and my intense gratitude that this didn't happen last Saturday - or anytime while all of you were here.

At this point it's just property damage and, regrettably, damage to a great old tree. No one got hurt and we didn't even know there was that possibility during the BBQ so no harm was done.

but...to play the Glad Game.....

Let's be glad it didn't fall on anyone and let's hope you still have lots of great shade in your fabulous backyard and the limb that fell will be wood for the fireplace this winter and.....

why is it I don't agree with RICHARD???? Why is it never RICHARD never agrees with me?????

Oh my goodness, Gini!!! Wow, they say timing is everything and this just proves that point once again! The only thing I can think of is if it happened when everyone was there, just think of the help you would have had cleaning it up. ;) I only say that because, of course, there is no way anyone could get hurt while at a California BBQ. It's just not allowed. Pants can get wine spilled on them, but no bodily injury is allowed to happen.

However, this is bad timing when thinking about the insurance. I'm sure your insurance company took a hit last year with your flood, and after this they may not like you very much. :( Funny, you pay them for years and years without a single minor claim..... Here's hoping the damage is minor and the main branch decides to hang on until the tree guys get there and cut it down safely.
