View Full Version : No crystals in Luna's urine, but still signs of infection

I called the vet this morning for the results of Luna's urinalysis, and the good news is:
No crystals!!!
Looks like the URO-PET-paste I'm mixing under her food every day did a really good job! :)
On the minus side, there were still some blood cells in her urine, so there's still a slight infection (but not bad enough for another antibiotic treatment - she just had one), looks like she never really seems to get rid of it.
My vet would like to send another urine sample to a lab to test it for e.coli. If that's the case, we would try to immunize her against e.coli-bacteria. I think it's gonna be worth a try.

Oh dear, Kirsten. I'm so sorry Luna continues to have her urinary problems. Sounds like you've got it partially under control with the paste. I almost hope they find e-coli because then at least you'll know something definite and hopefully be able to beat this once and for all!

That's great news that you have the crystals under control now! Good luck with finding the source of the bacteria!

I hope so, too!! My poor girl is dealing with all these nasty UTIs for so long now! :(

I'm glad that Luna doesn't have any crystals in her urine. :) Hopefully her bacteria infection can be treated easily.

Our Miss BooBoo Kitty had a UTI that was resistant to the usual antibiotics. Then the vet sent out a urine culture and Boo had e. coli!! As a nurse, I kinda freaked out a bit, because I am familar with little old ladies getting a UTI from e.coli because they wiped the wrong way. I never got an answer on how cats can get e. coli!!! Boo was so fastidious in her litter box habits, but what a surprise when she peed BRIGHT RED blood right in front of me. Boo was not a cat of subtle behaviour!!! I hope Luna will be OK!!!

I know they are around now - has anyone found them helpful in preventing UTI'S?

Kirsten,
I am sending good thoughts your way for Luna. You are a great catmom and really care for your animals and have shown me so much kindness with Harry and his illness. All good prayers for you and Luna! :)
