My Tilly has a new game.. she loves to dump over the garbages in the bedrooms and play with the paper/q-tips/tissue etc. that can be found there. She has even jumped into the kitchen garbage when the lid was open! Does anyone else have cats that enjoy the garbage cans? I got her from a shelter a couple months ago and she had been a stray - my boyfriend suggested it might be a hangover from her stray-days. I'm just afraid she will eat something sharp and choke or get sick!

And, off topic - this forum is great! There are too many fun stories and pictures to enjoy! I will post a pic as soon as I can find a digital camera or scanner to borrow!

Yes at least two of my three cats have played in the garbage before. Storm likes to chew on plastic things. He'll even chew on the plastic garbage ties. When I kept my garbage under the kitchen sink, Sunny and Storm would get into it fairly often. I now have a garbage can with a lid on it. :)

Great! We love to see photos. Welcome to Pet Talk. What breeds and ages are Bassett and Tilly? We look forward to getting to know the three of you.

Speaking of photos, I have a recent one of Cassy inside a trash basket. (You know cats, pushing the envelope...) I must remember to post it soon.

Thank you for the welcome!

Bassett is 3, and is a grey something. I wish I knew for sure what she is, but I got her for free outside a grocery store! She has characteristics of Russian Blue or Chartreux (sp??). Her fur is grey with mottled orange.

Tilly is five months old, and is a calico with a bright pink nose! She is mostly black, and has the loudest motor I have ever heard!

Nomilynn, welcome to Pet Talk! You will love it here! And we love seeing pictures :D Luckily we don't have problem with C & K going to the garbage. Can't you hide the garbage somewhere, or buy a one with a lit on? I can imagine it's no fun having paper etc. all over the floor....

even the ones with lids are subject to attack - Tilly knocks them down! :p

Ever tried Cat repellant? We bought it, and it works! Casper and Kitty used to hang on the curtains, but after we started using that repellant stuff, they've left curtains alone...

Nomilynn; First, welcome to Pet Talk.

My Fawn and Snow cat used to jump on the side of trash containers, and purposely pull them over. Thankfully, this was a passing kitten phase, and they don't do this any more. I'd suspect that your furkids will also cease doing this in time.

I've heard mixed results about cat repellant. What brand do you use? Does is smell noticably? Mark the paint on the nearby walls at all? Any "Do's and Don't's" you'd care to share?

You've got me very interested!

The brand we use is called 'Beaphar', seems to be a Dutch company. It does smell pretty bad:( that's the only down side of it, but for us, it didn't matter because we really needed it's help! I don't know if the paint of the wall is marked, we just sprayed it on our curtains, and nothing to be seen on those. Although, when we needed to use it somewhere else, we sprayed the repellant on a piece of fabric, just incase, so we woulnd't ruin anything. We haven't used it for few months now, and still they remember that curtains are no no!

And one other tip: you don't want to use it on a small room, the smell takes over the room and even you can't stay there...Of ocurse it depends on a product hos strong the smell is. Other smell your cats are supposed to hate is all citron fruits. We've tested it and C & K absolutely HATE orange and lemon, they won't go close!

Yes, Yum Yum will do that when we are not home on time. She will get the tissue out of the garbage can and shred it all over the house.
