Are you planning to make a bird of the day website next? Because while I think birds are okay, they're not my favorite pet, and having them every day gets kinda boring.

Welcome to Pet Talk! I don't think birds are pet of the days everyday! There's also bunnies, hamsters etc! Just stick around to see :D And once more, welcome!

Salana, Welcome to Pet Talk.
There is a link to see the previous Pets of the Day. You can bring them up by month and see a thumb-nail picture then click on the ones you want to see. There was a horse just the other day and a lizard yesterday. There's been ferrets and snakes and mice and bunnies and a hedgehog or two. Just lots of different animals. I think you'd enjoy seeing them. Welcome again.

I agree with Casper & Kitty, the birds aren't pet of the day everyday. I've had birds and loved them very much but, like you, they're not my first choice in pets. However, they are somebody's baby and we need to remember that their owners love them very much! What a thrill to see your pet as Pet of the Day!
You do raise a good point!! I've noticed many birds as POTD, perhaps there is a Bird of the Day in the near future? That would be neat!
Welcome to Pet Talk! Can't wait to hear about your furkids!

My dwarf hamsters were actually the pet of the day onFebruary 9 (http://petoftheday.com/archive/2002/February/09.html). They're so cute! :)
I also have two guinea pigs, Flake (pronounced Flocka) and Doom, a Syrian hamster, LuLu, and a dog, Flossy. Flossy is the most confused dog--she almost never barks. In fact, the only time I can remember her barking is once when my parents accidentally locked her out of the house at night. She barked once every five minutes until they figured out it was her and let her in. She doesn't mind the hamsters and piggies, except the hamsters scare her when they're running around in their hamster balls and bang into her ankles.

I took another look at your Pets of the Day. I remember seeing them. I wondered if they ever dropped 'surprises' in your computer keyboard. They are so cute. I felt so bad for the one who was abused in the pet store. I hadn't joined Pet Talk at the time, so I didn't leave a message. I would have told you how sweet they are. I am a hamster fan from long ago! Thanks for sharing them with us.:)

And if they leave 'surprises', they don't drop through the keys, so they're easy to get out. I thought I was the only person who called them 'surprises'! My guinea pigs have what I call 'surprise parties' all the time...they're wonderful pets but they do poop all the time.
I also let my guinea pigs type on the keyboard. Doom especially likes to sit in my lap while I'm on the computer, and then suddenly get very interested and step onto the keyboard while he looks up at the screen like he's reading it. He types very interesting things then.
I used to have a bright orange piggy named Ippie, and he liked to type. Once I cleaned out my keyboard and pulled out huge wads of orange hair.

Hi Salana and welcome to Pet Talk.
I have multiple pets in my household as well (2 dogs, 2 cats, 1 hamster and 1 Cockatiel). I enjoy every single pet that is featured on Pet of the Day. Sometimes we get some really interesting ones, like Boy George yesterday! He was a neat one, but a Chameleon is something I would probably never have!!!
Sorry you don't like birds. I think every single bird that has been featured here is absolutely beautiful!! We were scanning back just yesterday to find one particular miniature horse from January, to show a friend, and realized how many horses have been Pet of the Day! And although I think horses are beautiful animals, I'm not a huge horse fan, but I still enjoy seeing their beautiful pictures and reading their stories.
My favorite Pet of the Day of all time was the Canada Goose who had become a pet. I thought she was the most special ever!!! Sure do wish I could remember her name! LOL!! :D
I think Karen and Paul do a terrific job of spreading things around, so we get introduced to many wonderful animals. Hey, maybe we can change your mind about those birds!! I now have a keen interest since our Roger joined our family a couple of months ago. :)

Geese saved ancient Rome from being attacked by the Gauls once...they were sacred to Juno Moneta and dogs were very out of favor, because the sacred geese honked but the dogs didn't bark.

I know, aren't they?
I had to separate them, though. They fought a lot and Kini was keeping all the food away from Rorie. Also it was hard to pick Rorie up when Kini was trying to bite me. It's kind of saddening that she's become so mean, but she had a really bad experience in the pet store, and then she developed diabetes, which tends to make her weird. Also, I'm at school instead of at home, and my parents don't spend a lot of time with her (because she bites anyone who reaches into her cage) so...
I do have a funny Rorie story, though. A couple of weeks ago, when I was home on spring break, there were a lot of ants on the kitchen counter. I brought LuLu, my other hamster, down to see if she would eat them, since she's a Mighty Hunter and has been known to catch and eat moths, but she was more interested in crumbs on the counter. So I took her back to her cage and got out Rorie to try the same thing with her. Well, she wasn't interested in the ants (they were probably too small for her to deal with) but she saw the butter dish, so she ran over and started eating butter.
When I first had Rorie and Nettie, the other half of the original pair, Nettie would run on the wheel all the time. It squeaked a lot, so I got some shortening one day and greased up the axle. Well, Nettie couldn't get in it and run until Rorie was finished licking off the shortening. Luckily she couldn't get it all, so the wheel was quiet from then on. She doesn't exactly have the healthiest eating habits, and she's pretty fat now than Kini isn't stealing all her food.

My brother never had to grease his gerbils' wheel...they never ran on it! They'd just pile up shavings under it, then climb on it so they could gnaw on the cage top and try to escape! They'd always get very angry when their cage was cleaned because then they'd have to work to get the wheel properly immobile again.

We use Pam, the vegetable oil spray, on Olivia's wheel. Olivia is much more enchanted with her water bottle though....it dangles from a wire on the side of her cage...we call it her punching bag, as she bats it around every night!!!

AH! The sound of a hamster wheel squeeking in the night! One of my fondest childhood memories. Calhoon loved to keep me awake. This was in the days before cooking sprays. I wish I had thought of shortening!:) :)
