My kitten Caramel is 8 months old and he has his own personality for sure :) When He gets out of the litter box he scratches the floor as if he is covering something. He also does this around his food dish or if there is a piece of food on the floor. He tries to cover things but there is nothing to cover it with! He also scratches down the walls of the litter box. He gets right into it and does it everytime he visits the litter box or food dish. Both are cleaned regularily so it isnt that he thinks it's dirty. I was just wondering why he is doing this? Is he trying to hide or cover his scent or is it just a weird quirk?

Cats are very unique creatures. Out in the wild, they do the same thing. They cover what food is left over so their predators cannot smell it. They do the same thing domestically. If they don't feel that they've covered their "stuff" up enough in the litterbox, they'll reach outside of it making the motions. Same thing with their food. Ya gotta love 'em!!! ;)

I know it is so cute to watch, Caramel get right into it with his ears back and he is all serious! I love watching him do it I think it is so funny! He also does it to the bathtub when it is wet and when Im washing my hands he jumps up on the counter and sticks his paws under the water and then cleans the whole counter! Ahh I love my little guy :D
