Rescued an outdoor spayed female in May 2005. Vet gave her a clean bill of health: all blood and urine, etc. In November she started urinating outside the litter box...she gets inside...turns around and pees out the edge. I took the top off for a day and she just kept the same routine. I clean the litter box 3 times a day. She is not consistent...she does this every few days. I have not yet taken her to a vet to check for bladder infection.

Is there blood in the urine? You may want to call the vet and check her symptoms.

Hello, I had the same problem with my a one year old female Maine Coon.
I purchased a container that is made to hold clothes for under bed storage. It works, she has plenty of room, the sides aren't too high and it is made of heavy duty clear plastic.

I think the first order of business is to take her to the vet and have her checked. Chances are it's a UTI.

Absolutely have her checked by a vet. UTI is the most likely culprit - and if she doesn't have that, then at least it can be ruled out. Other causes could be another disease, such as diabetes, and renal disease among others. Your vet will probably ask if she's peeing more frequently, and if the volume is more or less than normal.
I'll check back on this thread, to see if she does have a UTI - if so, the solution is simple. If not, I've got lots of ideas.
