My Maltese,Sassy, is mysteryiously gaining weight and I have know idea why. Is this a big problem? I feed her twice a day and she goes for walks everyday! I don't understand. She has been to the vet recently to and they said nothing is wrong with her. And they said she is at the perfect weight. I am worried. I don't know whats causing it and what can happen to her if she keeps gaining. What should I do?

If you uspect she is gaining wait, then adjust her portions of food to see if that helps. As dogs get older they require less to eat because some aren't as active as they were as puppies or their metabolism isn't as fast as it used to be, etc.

Though there could be other underlying medical problems such as an underactive thyroid but my first suspicion would just be overfeeding.

Thanks! I think I'll try that.

How old is she?

But basically what Jessica said is correct. Food reduction will probably do the trick.

If your Vet says your dog is fine & is the perfect weight, why are you
still worried?

My dog is seven years old. And I am worried because I tookk her to the vet about a month ago and then she wasn't gaining weight. :(

My RB dalmatian had problems with her thyroid, and that caused her to be overweight. That may be her problem,or just try cutting down on food and treats.
