12:30 p.m. I get home from church. I put on the radio and settle on the sofa to read the Sunday paper. Zerlina climbs up on my lap. I notice that the discharge from her right eye, which I first noticed yesterday, is worse, and her third eyelid is closed. I then recall that she didn't do the usual morning chase-around-the-apartment-and-wrestle number with Don Juan that morning. Immediately, Don Juan settles on my lap, too.... and they both go to sleep.
12:50 p.m. I evict both kitties from my lap and fire up my iMac so I can see which emergency vet KrazyAboutKats uses. (I had asked her for the name a few months ago, for just such an occasion.) I call said emergency clinic and describe Zerlina's symptoms: "Bring her in."
1:30 p.m. Zerlina and I arrive at the clinic. I fill out the form.
2:00 p.m. When an examination room becomes available, Zerlina and I are shown to one.
2:10 p.m. A tech comes in to take Zerlina's vital signs and temperature. Zerlina protests. Tech explains that they have a couple of critical cases, so that we will have to wait a few minutes for the vet. (While we were waiting outside, a family brought in a dog that had helped itself to Mommy's antidepressants while they were at church.)
3:30 p.m. I have read my Sunday paper and the Time and Dog Fancy magazines in the exam room. Zerlina has remained in her carrier. She's safe there. Vet comes in, looks at Zerlina, then takes her to a back room for a proper opthalmic exam. Zerlina protests.
3:50 p.m. So much for getting to a friend's organ concert at 4:00. Zerlina's back. No evidence of an eye injury or foreign body, so it's probably an infection.
4:05 p.m. Checkout time! I get antibiotic ointment, antibiotic drops and instructions to a) keep her indoors and away from bright light, b) keep her away from Don Juan (lots of luck) and c) check in with my regular vet, nice Dr. J.
4:15 p.m. Payment. So much for my vow to stay off my credit cards.
4:25 p.m. Back home. Zerlina wants to stay in the carrier. I give her the antibiotic drops as per the vet's instructions. Zerlina protests. I figure out that I can accomplish the separation while I'm at work, by putting the big litterbox with the cover in my kitchen. :p

Well, it certainly could have been worse, and I'm confident she will be better soon. I hope.

What an eventful day. Lucky that Macs always work when they're needed. Hope Zerlina gets well soon. :)

Daisy sends big headbumpies to Zerlina! Daisy is affected by the Chlamydia virus and gets regular eye infections. She is getting her eye drops at the moment and feels for Zerlina!

Lots of "protest" from Zerlina :( . My Zazou meows that she understands, getting that stuff in your eyes makes your vision blurry, and you get squished to keep you immobile..... .
Get better soon miss Zerlina :)

UPDATE:

Well, here's hoping. Zerlina is eating and using the litterbox, and I got her to play a little last night. I've now got her shut in the bedroom with a couple of toys (and other necessaries). I wouldn't be surprised if Don Juan el Magnifico manages to get her out, though.

More update:

Zerlina's eye isn't completely back to normal, but it looks a LOT better. :) She has resumed her race-around-and-wrestle routine with Don Juan.

She hates both the eye ointment and the antibiotic and squeals when I give them to her, even though I explained that she needs to take them until ALL of the bad germs are gone! :p Who would think an eight-pound cat could be so strong?

Eight pounds of wiggly muscle, eh?

So glad to hear that she's on the mend already.

I'm sorry to hear that Zerlina's sick :( but I'm very glad to hear that her eye is improving. Get well soon Zelina and be a good girl and let your meowmie give you your medicine. :) I'm also glad that you kept the emergency vet that I used on file. I think it's very close to where you live too. ;)

Zerlina managed to "tree" Don Juan during their morning play session. :D :D :D

She still squeals and struggles while I give her her medicine, although I've explained to her that she needs to keep taking it, to make sure that ALL of the bad germs are gone! And, we're going to see nice Dr. J tomorrow afternoon for a follow-up. ( $ $)
