Oh my, I think that my Zazou is in heat   ! She keeps meowing ALL the time, keeps trying to cuddle with Inka or Maya (they do NOT appreciate it), rolling on the floor.... . Oh my, she is driving me crazy!!
I wanted to get her spayed as soon as possible, but as our vet is on maternity leave, the operation is postponed to november.... . I hoped we would be lucky, but today she suddenly started acting weird, and she hasn't stopped since.
Please, is there ANYTHING I can do to make her stop weaning like that? It is driving me nuts   . Poor Zazou, I wish I could do something for you!

I went through this with Abby. Is there someone else who could do the spay while your vet is out? The other thing I could suggest would be to put her in a room by herself and close the door, put on some soft music to drown out the yowling ?? :)
Oh Lut, I sympathize with you fully. When Annie and Emma were in my yard before I completely adopted them - it was clear both were going into heat.
I lured them into my home and called the vet. They couldn't take them until Monday - and this was only Thursday. By the time I got them to the vets on Monday - I had an amazing weekend - and poor Rascal was just beside himself.
If you cannot find another vet immediately - and I sure hope that you can - I would just try to keep her separate from the other kitties and play soft music - for YOU!!

Reese went into heat before her scheduled spay. Turns out she was older than they first estimated. We just rode it out - the worst was over in a couple of days. Just make sure she doesn't meet any boy cats - http://bestsmileys.com/cats1/7.gif

Lut, I'm pretty sure the vet will not want to spay her while she is in heat, anyway. I think there is a lot more risk, then. I will also add that I had Mimi spayed while she was in heat and Shrimp Boat too! :o I have never heard such wailing and howling in my life!!!! And the things Shrimp Boat would do to get close to my husband! OMG!!!! LOL!!!!! She would back up into his face at every chance!!!!! Tell your hubby to watch out!!!!! :o You have my sympathy!!!

Actually, I have been told (at least in Abby's case anyway) that it is better to spay WHILE they are in heat - the reproductive organs are enlarged and easier to find and cut and snip. Sorry if that's a little graphic  There's probably different opinions among different vets, though.

Lut, there are pills on the market for cut/prevent heat in cats and dogs made by progesterone. Ask at your vet clinic they may know and supplies. You will need, err...I mean Zazou, a couple of doses to calm down.
Hope you can get ahold of them and everybody have a nice and peaceful weekend. It's not funny, specially for poor Zazou :p

I will try to call the clinic in the morning. It is nearly 11.15 pm now, so they might not appreciate an almost hysterical catmommy now.... :D

Oh no, no "error"; I need a double get-calm-pill me too   :p

It sure is NOT! The poor thing is really screaming for a tomcat....! No worries, she won't meet any, as she is still strictly indoors!!
Funny for those who understand Dutch: a tomcat is also called a "kater" here; let that now also be the same word for a hangover.... :p :p
Indra was sick today (no school) and Zazou cried so loud that Indra could hear it in her bed! She made me laugh so hard when she yelled: "mommy, give that cat a beer, will you!!"
Got it??

Might I suggest a large bottle or two of white zinfandel??????? :D
Oh... you were asking if there is something you can do for Zazou????
Sorry, I have no advice for you. I was lucky to get Sasha in before she went into heat for her first time. And Tabitha..... well, the time came for her to IMMEDIATELY get fixed after she backed up to me in bed, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.... and peed on me! The time had come!
Good luck! And lots of prayers coming your way for all of you and your family!

Lut, I'm sorry to hear that Zazou has gone into heat. She must be miserable and I'm sure you're also getting very irritated. :( I don't have any advice but hopefully she'll calm down on her own in a few days. I'd also look into having another vet perform her surgery asap. Good luck. :)
Oh Lut, my heart goes out to you and also Indra!! My niece was here the weekend both cats went into heat - and she was soooo sweet - "no - they didn't keep her awake!"
But she went home to her Mama - and said THOSE CATS KEPT ME AWAKE ALL WEEKEND LONG!
I felt so terrible for Annie and Emma and my niece as well.
Can you just imagine if "we women" did the same thing? At least, I hope, this will get you to laugh!

Oh Lut, I'm sorry to read that! I have no more advice than all the ones you already had. Porr Zazou, and poor you and Indra! :(
What do Maya and Inka "say"? Are they getting bored?

They are avoiding her! Poor Inka, she is not used to Zazou yet, so she is absolutely NOT pleased with all the extra attention.... . A very common sight now is Inka sitting on a chair, and Zazou right under it, meowing as loud as she can...! Oh my, yes, I used earplugs last night. I didn't sleep well at all, so today I get even more irritated by Zazou's behaviour. She was on my lap a moment ago, and she was just BEGGING me to rub her belly and....... behind   . Poor girl!!
There are 2 more vets in my town, but I don't want them to fix Zazou. The first one is the vet who didn't detect Sydney's heart rumour: she NEVER listened to his heart! The other one is all new, just started last month. I'd rather wait till our regular vet is back, because she is so gentle with her patients.
I asked the vet clinic about an emergency operation, but they rather not do this, unless there is a medical reason. So...... I guess I will have to endure Zazou's weaning a few more days. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes?
Poor sweety Zazou, I will rub her belly and the rest ( ;) ) as often as she wants me too.

Poor Zazou! Our Sammy went into heat once before she was spayed, but I don't remember it being that bad. I don't think it really lasted longer than a couple of days. Fingers crossed!

I just found it in a book about cats: it can take 4 to 10 days   .Oh my, I am about ready to faint....
I found one important thing that slows her down: when none of the other cats are around, she isn't meowing less. So..... Inka is enjoying outdoor life in our garden!! When she gets tired, she usually meows to get back inside; but NOT this time; she installs herself on my garden chair :D . This a pic of last summer :D

and Maya? She asks me to open the door to our bedroom, and goes napping on the bed for the rest of the day :)

No need to make up that bed mommy, I will take care of it!!

Saturday evening here now.
Zazou is really driving all of us NUTS, including Inka & Maya!! She just does never stop weaning, and it is pretty loud  . She thinks everybody is a tomcat..... ;)
Having been there, I really do feel for you and your family, Lut.
But when Emma and Annie were both in heat at the same time - multiply Zazou's loud calls by TWO!!, I really did feel for them too.
They are only doing exactly what nature has asked them to do.
I am sure that Monday cannot come soon enough for you!

There is "50 years Eurovision" on tv, from Copenhagen! The 14 best songs from last 50 years may compete for the best song ever! Yippie!!

:D :D What came out as the best song, Lut? Did you vote? (Bet it was 'Waterloo'!)
Poor Zazou! Poor you!
Can't be much longer now. Lets hope not the 10 days you were reading about anyway!

Yes, "Waterloo" won; but in fact it was all about the "best sold" song, not the "best" song  :( . In my eyes, the ever best song was "Eres Tu" by Mocedades (Spain).
Monday now, and guess what, ..... Zazou is..... still howling   . She just jumped ON Inka, who started screaming like a dying piggie... . Oh my, will my day end with a headache AGAIN ??

Wednesday today.
yippie!!!!! Zazou has calmed down again. She is again the sweet loving, gentle cat she was before the dreaded HEAT !!
I phoned our vet, and lucky me, she reopens her office next week!! So we made an appointment for Zazou on next thursday, november 3rd. She wil be "zipped", and in the meantime , while her belly is open anyway, the vet will take away a little "ball" on her belly button; Yhay is a leftover from her own birth where she got abutton rapture .
No more, never, cats in heat here   :D
Are you telling us that your teeth have stopped chattering now????  :D :D

Boy, am I ever glad I had Angel spayed at 4 months of age, and Annie spayed at 4 & 1/2 months of age, before we had a chance to go through that with either of them!
