Miss Thang (formerly Squigles) has had an issue with breaking out on her ears for years. At first I was extremely concerned and took her straight to the vet. After paying $50 for testing and the visit fee... I found out she has PIMPLES!!! She usually breaks out about once maybe twice a year.
However, for the past few weeks she's broken out again but it hasn't gone away. The bumps are all in the same general spot on both her ears. I keep rubbing them to get the "scabs" off. The pimples tend to heal and leave a scab behind. It bothers her at times so I rub them off for her gently.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to treat it? I've tried alcohol wipes on occassion but she runs away from me. She won't come back to me for a few days if she thinks I will do it again. For the most part she leaves her ears alone but really enjoys it when I take time to rub on them for her. Thanks for any suggestions. She is 10 years old and has had this since she was 6 months old.

Could they be some sort of virus? You know, like some humans get clusters of little warts? Or like the cold sore virus that breaks out in some folks who carry it, from time to time?

I have to say, that's a new one on me! Has the vet done a scraping to be sure they aren't some type of burrowing mite? Maybe it would be better to use wipes without alcohol, as that stings. What about neosporin, or some other antibiotic cream, which I would think would be more soothing?

Eh poop, I've heard before some medication you can put on it that helps it go away, but I don't know if products created for human skin would necessarily work on animal skin, or if you would WANT to put it on animal skin. The only thing I can think of is rubbing alcohol... but that can dry out the skin, so perhaps clean her ears with some astringent?? I don't know, sorry I can't be more helpful :(

I have gotten her test before for her ears. It came back as "pimples" . I first thought it was "ear mites" but it is on the OUTSIDE of the ears toward the middle. Nothing has shown to be "alive". The condition normally clear up on it's own in 2 weeks. This time it hasn't but is staying about the same. I thought it might be related to her "heat" cycle despite being fixed. She was fixed WAAAY too young in my opinion. That has caused several issues....
I am trying the alcohol approach to attempt to "dry out" the pimples. I don't think neosporin would be healthy in case she licks it. I have tried some hydrogen peroxide with limited results. Plus it would make her throw up if she got it in her stomach.
I was hoping someone else had seen this condition before. It doesn't appear she's in any pain so that is good. It just is bothersome and irratating. Thanks for the help!

Neosporin is safe to use, especially on her ears, how can she lick the back of her ears LOL I use Neosporin when Charlie had an infection near his *ahem* man area, and it cleared it up within a few days. Of course I also had to make him wear a cone... theres a number of times when they've had little nicks or cuts or scratches where I've used neosporin and they've never got sick from it.
And IF she had mites, you still wouldn't see anything "alive" because mites are microscopic and can't be seen with the naked eye. But I'm sure if they WERE mites that it would have come back as positive for mites from the tests the vet did.
