View Full Version : Special Treats...

Hello everybody! I don't know what's got on me (maybe some Spring mood!)... I'd like to give Sirocco a special treat... err, something made (cooked, I suppose) by me
That's why I've posted this on Cat General instead of Health - I feed Siro on dry premium food, but that's not the point (no discuss on cat's feeding!!). I usually give him a can (a very smaaall can :D )of wet food once a week, so I thought I could give him something more tasty, special, and well, maybe, even healthier - At this point, most of you should have understood I'm one of those crazy cat owners, so if I give Sirocco tuna (any advice on that?) it'll be fresh, fresh tuna just bought from the market :o

I've given Siro jamón once(it's a Spanish delight, or at least very appreciated by us: a kind of salted raw meat, but I'm afraid it's not worth explaing, you should try it ;) but I reckon some foreigners don't appreciate it very much due to cultural and culinary differences!).. Err sorry for the Spanish cooking up-date... the point was, I can't give jamón to Siro because it's quite concentrated in minerals for him :(

So, what do you give your cat(s) as a treat: tuna (fresh or canned?), liver (raw or cooked?), anything else?

Casper and Kitty get Felix treats, tuna, chocolate, meat etc. flavoured ones, and needless to say that they lov their treats! :D

I love jamon but like our ham it has way too much salt. My husband was giving Edwina ham and she would drink sooooo much water after eating it!

Her favorite treats are fresh tuna and turkey. Someone gave her some cans of tuna just for cats (less salt) and I would give her a half spoonful as a treat. She loved it. My husband gets sliced turkey for his lunch and she adores a little bit of it (actually she would adore a great big bunch of it but I try and restrict it.)

Come to think of it...is turkey available in Spain?

Hi sirocco!

What a great idea to give your cat a special treat - and I'm even happier that you care about what minerals are in the food. I still need to learn more about that myself, because Fister had bladder stones recently, so he's on a dry food diet with very little phosfor, magnesium and calcium. It's really difficult to be pesistent, he's so fed up, but there are only two kinds to choose from, so that's what I do. However, I have to admit, that once or twice a week, I give him a little treat - but only like 2 spoonfuls. He loves shrimps, raw white fish, raw liver and tuna from the small cans. The vet shop gave a little packet of Royal Canin Light 38 slim, he loves them! So I give them as an extra treat. Actually, as long as it's something new and small in size dry food, it's yummy!! :D

Fister will also eat mild cheese and cooked corn.

Have you tried giving him cooked calamares?

Ps. I know Jamon Serrano, delicious! Only, there are so many kinds! Which would you recommend?

Buena, que tengas un buena noche!

Un abrazo,
Randi :)

LOL LoudLou :D We've got a "Daddy's little Princess" at our house too. And yes, he spoils her at every chance too. LOL

Peanut prefers turkey, chicken, bologna or tuna. If we have sliced turkey, I can take it out of the refrigerator and not even open the bag and right there she is. She's normally a quiet, polite little girl, but when the turkey comes out her "professional beggar" side comes out. (Note: Professional Beggar is a product of Daddy's spoiling.) :D

Believe it or not, Tubby's favorite treat is pizza. When it was just him and me (no boyfriend, no Peanut) way back when, Pizza was a Friday night ritual, and I had to have somebody to share it with. And Tubby never turned me down. :) Tubby also likes the turkey, bologna, chicken and such, but he much prefers tuna over all of those. Unfortunately he doesn't get anywhere near enough of these treats these days (according to him anyway) because of his kidneys and tendency to throw it all right back up again. However, this does not prevent him from begging and making his Daddy feel guilty.

You can see why we call them our snots. :)

The kids primarily eat dry hairball formula cat food, but get lots of treats. (Quelle surprise.)

Cold cuts are one of the most popular around here. They prefer  the really, really thin cut ones -- thin enough that you could read large print through them, if necessary. I used to get Chicken Nugget kids meals for them, but they've lost their taste for them. When getting drive-through meals lately, I ask for bacon on the side since they enjoy it more than I do. Some drive-throughs here have 'pet packs' if you ask for them and have optional buns... ('In and Out Burgers' is one chain that offers this, but I know there is more...)

Thanks for your replies!! I´m studying late tonight and now going off to bed, but I thought I could have JUST a look at PetTalk before sleep, and there you are!

Edwina´s Secretary: Yes, we have turkey here, though it´s not a favourite in the country! I think I´ll try because it´s low fat ;) (I mean, I´ll try with Sirocco, I´ve recently quitted eating meat, and I guess Siro isn´t very happy about it :D !!)

Tubby & Peanut´s Mom: Yes, I love sharing those moments with Sirocco - mostly breakfast! It´s very special. Well, we cannot share all breakfasts, but then you have weekends, mmm, love having a calm, huge breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings with him - Siro always gets a tiny bit of toast (when having butter, for another favourite breakfast here is toasts with olive oil and tomato slices!! Hope it doesn´t sound TOO weird  Anyway, Sirocco doesn´t appreciate them too much :D )

and.. Randi! Well, of course you know about Jamón Serrano, I´m glad you enjoyed it, specially at Patio San Eloy! You mentioned going to that bar, well I go there quite often!! I bet we could have even been there at the same time - but we didn´t know each other then!

Sirocco likes tuna, ALL kinds of cheese, yogurt ... But what really drives him crazy is the "vinaigrette" that comes in stuffed olive´s can) I think it´s NOT healthy at all, but when I have some olives I have to let him sip a few gulps... it´s catnip for him. By the way, I can´t find catnip here, nor cat tuna cans :(

Thank you very much for your suggestions... I think I´ll get some calamares (Randi.. ;)) and other fresh fish for Sirocco this weekend - we ALL deserve a treat ;)

SPOIL YOURSELVES AND ENJOY YOUR FURKIDS!

Ohh Nita!

I just remembered, Fister is also crazy about Olives con Anchoas. The ones called: Espanolá are delicious! I bite them and give him the bit in the middle - thats really Yummy!! and at lunch my husband always give him a little slice of cooked ham, that also goes down well, and of course, he likes to lick butter off the bread. But, careful! Not too often!! ;)

Thats it for now. Go and spoil him! :D

Ps. We have a great video from Patio San Eloy.

Woww, I also prefer Española olives (aceitunas - another word from the Arabs!) con Anchoas... I feel relieved that Siro is not the only one in this (well, Siro and me) I love olives..
and I can really imagine you biting the olive and giving Fister the stuffing... LOL :D I do that kind of things, too :o

I wish we could share some jamón, gazpacho, sangría, aceitunas, paella, vino... over here... I've just realised how hungry I am ;) For those who have visit Sevilla, I think I should try to make Sirocco pose in front of the Giralda, so I could post the pic here (this is supposed to be PetTalk, ;) ) and you'd be able to recall good memories!! :D Sirocco doesn't like the idea...:D

Arhhh, lynnestankard!

I'd love to do the same - I feel as if Spain is my second home. I'm SO envious! Where are you going to? In case you don't know, try the little round cakes rolled in pinenuts, they're delicious, can't remember the name of them, but I actually think they're made for Easter!

Have a wonderful trip! :)
