For a few months now, Miley, my oldest cat and my favorite (shhhhhhhh, don't tell the others) .... has been "missing" the litter box and having her bowl movements in the general vicinity -near by, that is, but not in the box. I struggled with this in silence and all the while fearing she may have a problem and should see a vet.

To make a long story short, I noticed that she would hide when doing the dirty deed and would "go" under a shelf, or behind the litter box, always hiding it. Well, I think I figured out that SHE was hiding and needed more privacy.

I rearranged the spare room with the six litter boxes. I put three in other parts of the house, in quiet, private places. And guess what, it is working. For the past week there have been no accidents and Miley has been happily using the other boxes.

I also noticed that JuniRose, my dear problem child, stands beside the boxes in the spare room, while the other poor cats try to use them. Juni likes to make the other cats miserable. That is how she dominates.

Anyway, I am so happy that Miley is happy now. I know she didn't like soiling her Meowmie's house and room.

:D

Oh Sallyanne, that's so good to hear that you found a solution.:)

Here it was similar. Filou, my older cat and my favorite (shhhh, don't tell Tigris ;)) had started to pee in places where he shouldn't. (Years ago;)) I found out that it was the closed litterbox: Tigris attacked him while he was in. When I changed to open boxes this problem stopped.

As you know Miley is a special kitty friend of mine (my favorite girl kitty of my 3 favorite girl kitties;) ) and I am so happy she is happy now. I am sure she didn't like to soil places, being such a tidy girl. And tell Juni that furpeople as well as skinpeople need their privacy in these moments;)

The six litter boxes in one room must have seemed like Grand Central Station to Miley, who understandably would have preferences for a more secluded and individual rest room. I'm thinking she is relieved that you have figured out the error of your ways. ;)

Yesterday morning while typing away at emails, I notice a nasty cat like order coming from behind a chair near my typing area. That area contains one of the covered litter boxes. Thinking I had to clean a newly made mess, I slid the box out to the middle of the room and lifted the cover only to find Miley still in the process. I slid the poor baby back to her original spot, putting the lid back on her little potty! She was fine with the moving potty and continued on. I giggled out loud. If looks could have killed.....it was as though she said, "really Mom, do I need to put a lock on these port-a-potties?"...... She is such a little lady and so easily upset. But she also loves her Mom so, and she let me slide this time!

These cats are like kids to us!

Well, it took me some time to figure it out, but now it seems, that everyone is happy with the litterbox arrangement. Juni can still attack Lucy and Chloe as the leave the boxes and Miley can do her business in peace.

Miley spent so much time with me this weekend. Do you think it was her way of saying Thank You MOM?!!

Cat parents really DO need to be detectives at times. I am glad that you solved your little problem. :)
