View Full Version : Boomer meets sirrahkitties

09-16-2005, 11:55 AM
Boomer is doing quite well. He has been drinking, eating a small amount and using his litterbox. When we go into the room, he is coming out most of the time and today started rolling over for belly rubs. Emily has been wanting to go in so we tried her first. No problems at all:) One by one each kitty was able to go in to meet Boomer and so far - only Dylan hissed and Boomer growled. A few minutes later - I went back in and Boomer was relaxed again so decided to take him for a walk around the house and that went well too. Grandpaw got a few pictures so I will get them up here...

A very curious Boomer - taking in all the new things in the living room.....

Wow - so much to see!

Who is that down there??

Oh yes! I met you earlier...Lizzie right? Yup!! She's pretty cute I think.

Out on the enclosed patio - THIS room is going to be fun...

What is this thing GrandMeowmie?

I like it!!

Here comes Eliot - the butt sniffer...I think they will be buddies in time..

Back in the "safe" room - but does he look worried?? Uh-oh! I am not allowed on beds - what will Meowmie say? I won't tell her Boomer...

Boomer, you really take this international diplomacy thing to a whole new level! Way to be such a lover boy!

09-16-2005, 12:06 PM
What WONDERFUL pictures!:) Looks like Boomer is adjusting to his surroundings well, getting everything all figured out!

09-16-2005, 12:07 PM
How sweet! Boomer is a big kitty! I'm so glad that he made it safely, and I hope he enjoys his new home and siblings! :)

09-16-2005, 12:12 PM
Sounds like everything is going quite well. He must be very easy going. He is just adorable. I love that picture of him sitting on the bed!

WONDERFUL !!!!! Boomer is such a gorgeous cat, I LOVE his markings!
Oh Debbie, I cannot believe that he already "made friends" with your cats! You are doing such a great job with him. Missy will love you enormously for this!

ps. I just noticed Boomer is already in your siggie! What a wonderful thought :) :) ♥

09-16-2005, 12:14 PM
That's exactly what I thought too - Boomer is a big boy!

I love the way he looks so curious as he was shown his new home. He looks as though he is one smart kitty.

It just warms your heart!!

So glad he made the trip well and is adjusting to his new home. He looks like a real sweetie.

09-16-2005, 12:25 PM
Boomer looks like he is enjoying himself ;)
Dont wory Boomer, the No bed rule doesnt apply in Ohio :D

09-16-2005, 12:29 PM
Did the "no bed" rule apply in Japan? I thought Missy had posted a picture with Boomer on the bed next to Tyler?

It's ok, either way, Boomer. Rules don't apply at Grandmeow's house! (Just ask her to destroy the picture evidence). ;)

I am so happy to see him adjusting so well. I can't imagine how terrified he must have been on the plane, and confused when he got to his temporary home. I can't wait to see pictures of Missy's and Tyler's homecoming. :D

09-16-2005, 12:30 PM
Those pictures made me so happy! I'm glad he is starting to fit in and get comfortable.

09-16-2005, 12:33 PM
He looks fantastic! I never knew how BIG Boomer was! He looks positively huge! :D

Kisses from your auntie Kim in Pennsylvania!

09-16-2005, 12:34 PM
:o The "no bed" rule is mostly for Boomer's cat-daddy who is very allergic to kitties!

Yes, Missy will let him in the bed with her sometimes...and Paul tolerates it somewhat too. Boomers settles in next to Tyler quite often.

Boomer has much better manners than the other sirrahkitties as far as getting on tables, counters, etc. I think that his new siblings are going to be teaching Boomer LOTS of naw-tee things:eek: :p

09-16-2005, 12:43 PM
Oh, this is wonderful!!! :)

Boomer, I'm glad that you arrived safe in your new home after your long and exhausting trip, and that you're already making new friends! :)

And isn't it great that you're allowed to be on the bed? ;)

09-16-2005, 12:44 PM
how awesome!!!!
I am so happy he is settling in well! :)

09-16-2005, 01:42 PM
I'm so glad everything is going so smoothly. I agree with some of the others--Boomer is a big boy!:)

09-16-2005, 02:23 PM
Deb, I'm so glad to see that Boomer did so well with the intros, especially considering that he was an only kitty for so long! But after that flight he took, he shouldn't have much to complain about!

09-16-2005, 02:33 PM
Boomer!! You're the coolest cat around man!! So adaptable. Nothing can hold you back dude!! Great pics and I'm thrilled to see how well everyone is getting along!!:D

09-16-2005, 03:34 PM
He looks great! And intros are going well we see.

Nice to know the Sirrah kitty clan has their own resident butt sniffer - William is ours! :p

And your new signature balances so well with Boomer down there in the corner.

So happy for all of you.

Debbie, I can NOT believe how he has fit right into your household and fur family! I am in AWE of that! Animals are so sensitive, that I wonder if he knows you are "family" and that he is going to be safe and happy there. Bet he remembers you from your trip so that has to make the transition easier for him. He KNOWS he is "home" with "family"!! He will fit right on in there so fast that he is going to think he has been there his whole life. I can't WAIT until Missy and Tyler get there and he sees them!!!

How far off is his schedule here from the one in Japan? He probably wants to sleep when he should be up, eat when he sould be sleeping and his whole body clock screwed up.

09-16-2005, 04:28 PM
Are you sure he's not an orangie in disguise??? I can't get over how mellow he's being with all the new roommates! :)

09-16-2005, 04:35 PM
I"m figuring that he is so darned happy to be off that airplane and out of that crate that anything will please him now! LOL!!!! :) God bless you, Boomer. You deserve a good life.

09-16-2005, 05:19 PM
It is the evening of the second day with Boomer. Earlier this afternoon, Grandpaw spent some time in his room and they enjoyed looking out the window...

They are getting along very well...

Boomer really seems to enjoy this window - it is street level and has some pear trees right outside so lots of birds to watch...

Silly Boomer - still thinks the light switch is a bug I think!! That is the wall directly in front of him and he is looking up at the switch.

Isn't this a handsome view???

Boomer is not nearly the scardycat that he was when he first went to live with Missy two years ago - we are thinking that someone must have been mean to him - but be really bloomed with Missy and family. I know Boomer will be happy to have his Meowmie and brother with him again!!

Awwwwwwwwww, such great pics, Debbie!! Boomer, you are a very special cat!!!

09-16-2005, 05:46 PM
Took a few more pictures tonight...
Boomer has been crying at the door now and wanting out! So, I thought I would give it a try and see just how far he would venture. I opened the door and out he came - right around the corner and into the kitchen for a drink at the communal fountain. Emily was right outside the door and was watching him...

Then he sauntered across the family room and headed down the hall....Emily right behind him...

He inspected the hall and main bathroom, Emily still right behind. They did a bit of friendly butt sniffing and circling...

Then, they BOTH returned to the family room and then back into Boomer's room! I did not get pictures of that because I was holding my breath! I sat in there for about a half hour as Boomer again crawled under the bassinet. Emily kept sticking her head under there but he did not want to come out. Then, Eliot came in and also stuck his head under there and Boomer growled. I let all three kitties stay in that room while I watched. Emily fell asleep in tha hammock (so stressed!!) and Eliot gave up on trying to get Boomer to play and fell asleep on the bed! I figure that is enough for one day so took the residents out and gave the room back to Boomer. I think that room will likely remain his safe hiding place - I will try leaving the door open for longer periods of time when Boomer wants out. Things seem to be going well.

Whew!:D Now to get Missy and Tyler here!:)

09-16-2005, 06:04 PM
He is such a beautiful cat. How sweet that Emily follows him around!

09-16-2005, 06:19 PM
Oh Debbie, this just goes to show that it was the right thing to do. What a perfect grandma and grandpa Boomer has!!!!!:)

09-16-2005, 06:35 PM
Oh I'm so glad to see that Boomer made it over to the US and I'm also very happy to see him starting to fit right in. Thanks for the wonderful update!! :)

09-16-2005, 06:51 PM
Boomer, you are one diplomatic cat! You just make everyone, even the other cats, love you almost immediately! You're such a good boy for being such a good 'guest' (since you are a stranger to the other guys for now).

I know you will all make friends and be buddies; all it takes is a little time and patience.

Looks like you loved the tour your grandmeowmie took you on and I bet you and Grandpaw will be best friends!

I'm just so glad you're HOME!

09-16-2005, 07:22 PM
Looks like things are going very well!

:D :D

09-16-2005, 08:46 PM
Boomer is such a big handsome boy! I am glad he is adjusting so well, it will be nice when Missy and Tyler and snug in that room too!

09-16-2005, 08:53 PM
This is a wonderful thread! The pictures are darling and I am so glad Boomer is fitting in.

09-16-2005, 09:10 PM
I could not be happier than to finally find some computer time tonight and see these wonderful pictures! Boomer looks so at ease after everything he has been through! Amazing and Wonderful!!!:) :) :)

I'm sure this news has really made Missy feel good about how things turned out. This has to be a load off of her mind. I'm so glad that Missy will have Boomer with her and Tyler. At least she will have most of her family with her. Things just always turn out the way they are supposed to don't they?

I'm so happy for the whole Sirrah crew!:)

09-16-2005, 10:03 PM
Those pictures made me smile. I love the expression on his face, curious and stunned about all the new things in his live. Everything seems to be going so well.
I don’t know how long Missy had Boomer. Did he have a view of trees from her window? Has he ever been around other cats before? He is such a cutie!

09-16-2005, 10:08 PM
Boomer has never seen another cat before. He's also never seen a tree up close becaue we live on the top floor of a high rise. He is experiencing all sorts of new things in Ohio:D :D

09-16-2005, 10:30 PM
No wonder Boomer looks so stunned with his big round eyes.
He is going to love living in Ohio with grandma and grandpa.
The sunroom with the great view must be kitty heaven.
Missy, your little boy Tyler is so adorable.

09-17-2005, 12:43 AM
Poor Boomer doesn't know what's going on! Cats he's never seen before. An outside world unknown to him before. He'll be happy to see people he knows - something "normal" in this abnormal world he's in. I'm so glad he made that long trip OK.

09-17-2005, 01:20 AM
Debbie, I love the pictures!

Boomer seems to be fitting in so nicely, I hope it continues! :)

09-17-2005, 06:14 AM
If Boomer has never interacted with other cats before, it seems like he is doing amazingly well. That's pretty impressive!

Boomer, you are one classy cat!

09-17-2005, 10:50 AM
Boomer you are doing wonderful! By the time meowmie and big brother get there, you will be right at home and best friends with the others!

09-17-2005, 11:22 PM
I'm so glad to see that Boomer is settling in so well.:)Thanks for the updates and pictures too.:)

09-18-2005, 08:51 AM
Well, I slept with Boomer in his room last night....he snuggled against my legs:) I wanted to make sure he was eating, drinking, etc.

Early this morning I heard him slurping water and using his box. He hopped to the hammock and watched birds for awhile...then ate some of his dry food. I got up and he demanded a long belly rub:D He is wanting out of the room so badly so I think today is the day to open that door and let him roam. We have let each of the kitties come in for introductions and do not see any hostility except for some random hissing and growling. Emily seems to be the one most interested and calm with him so far. He is just the sweetest thing!!

My concern is that he has not eaten much at alll... maybe 1/2 cup of food in 4 days. He did make his first poo yesterday. I have offered him the stinky food I have but he would not eat that. Today I am going to buy another variety and some baby food. I don't want to upset his belly though - can ya'll suggest anything???

We may go out to the mall area and look for the supplement that you mentioned Becky - I can't find that post?? Is this a liquid product?? I think I will recognize the name when I see it.

He is not hiding under the bed anymore - but is still "hiding":)

He enjoys being petted while hiding:D
daughter Chris...
and GranMeowmie

Yup - it's Boomer!! SHHH...he is hiding

He looks a bit saucer eyed here but was actually quite relaxed and contented. I can't wait to see how he reacts to having his Meowmie and brother with him finally!!:D (Thursday night!!)

09-18-2005, 09:00 AM
LOL At first I couldn't find him in the picture...I kept looking at the carrier and expecting him there (I don't have my glasses on).

This has got to be one of my favorite PT stories. Everyone who helped out in sending Boomer to the US are quite extraordinary..and Boomer is very lucky to have such a wonderful Meowmie, Grandmeowmie and Granpaw.

Please keep the pictures coming! I LOVE this thread and it always brings a smile to my day..I have to check through it several times.

09-18-2005, 10:06 AM
Nutrial Cal (there is another brand that is cheaper, same ingrediants called Nutri Stat that I purchased). Comes in a tube.
I strongly suggest getting it soon because this stuff really helps the appetite. Very high in calories too.

Can you purchase what he was eating in Japan? Better yet have your daughter pack what he was eating and bring it with her. That way you can mix old with anything new.

09-18-2005, 10:31 AM
Boomer is doing so well! I bet he will love to see Missy and Tyler again :D

09-18-2005, 11:10 AM
Boomer seemed to be getting attached to Tyler. I'll bet his world will come together when he sees them again.

09-18-2005, 12:10 PM
Such a heartwarming thread!!

Boomer is so beautiful - and he does seem to be adjusting quite nicely. I bet he does miss Tyler and Missy though.

09-18-2005, 12:45 PM
Words cannot express how happy I am that he is with you!

You heard him slurping water? WOW - the only one in my house I usually hear is the d-o-g! ;)

If you are buying baby food - try the meat sticks they have in cans. Kloe LOVES these.

09-18-2005, 01:17 PM
In all the excitement over Boomer, I **forgot** Missy and Tyler weren't far behind! Maybe Boomer is just a little lovesick, and won't eat until his 'family' arrives? Not that you aren't family...but, you know what I mean...I hope!:)

09-18-2005, 01:34 PM
I just can't get enough of Boomer!!! That picture of him 'hiding' under the cover is hilarious, that boy does have some big eyes!!!

Now Boomer, you have to start eating more; you are going to make your grandmeowmie worry if you don't.

09-18-2005, 03:28 PM
no pictures this post - just and update - we bought some veal baby food and boomer chowed down on that - now has eaten half of his dry food so i feel much better. more poo in the box, too. becky - boomer has been eating the same food at his home....same litter too. good thought!

boomer's door is open now and everyone has been coming and going with only isolated growling...boomer is hiding again!!:D as above.

gini and Joh - I also think boomer is a bit homesick and will be happy to see Missy and tyler - we will suffice but nothing better than familiar folks when everything in life has changed!!

That's is for now - maybe pics tomorrow.

09-18-2005, 03:39 PM
You can tell he feels like home :)

09-18-2005, 03:54 PM
Indoor cats like Boomer are more attached to the people in the home rather than the home itself.

Mango, Bubbles & Peaches, all indoor cats, recently moved to new digs and there was hardly a ripple in their lifestyle since the people they know and love were there. They just had new places to explore. Bubbles always hides behind the pillows or under the covers on the bed so she and Boomer would get right along!

My mom's indoor/outdoor cat, a Russian Blue named Binky, seems equally attached to her as he is to his home (his territory maybe?) and would probably be hard to move to a new place.

I suspect Boomer will be much more settled and more brave once Missy & Tyler are with him.

09-18-2005, 04:00 PM
Thats a good start "isolated grawling". LOL
Glad Boomer is eating and peeing/pooping on more regular basis.

09-18-2005, 06:01 PM
I'm happy to see that Boomer is settling in and getting used to everything.
The pictures are so cute, keep them coming!:)

09-18-2005, 06:33 PM
Oh Debbie, it warms my heart to read and see how well Boomer is doing. YYYYYYYAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!
He is such a handsome big fella and I bet he will be so happy to see his meowmie and baby brother this week. :)

09-18-2005, 08:41 PM
Boomer is very beautiful! Bless you for taking him into your home, I'm sure he will be very happy! :D

09-20-2005, 12:16 PM
How long is TOO long to not eat?? Boomer has only eaten twice that I am aware of - maybe 1/2 cup of his dry food. He has poo'd twice and they are small amounts and hard - constipation??

Any suggestions? Is there something to get his bowels moving? His belly does not seem distended or tender as far as I can tell. Missy and Tyler will be arriving tomorrow night so that may just take care of what is ailing him!!:)

I just don't want to risk a sick kitty you know? He acst normal except for so little eating. The door to his safe room is open and he does venture out a few times a day. The sirrahkitties are totally fine with him - no hissing or aggression whatsoever. They either ignore him or try to play but give up pretty quickly.

Better add a few new pix!
When Boomer walks around, Emily normally follows him. She really seems to like him and I have seen them laying near each other and she even got in a head lick!

Boomer still appears very cautious when he is exploring but I did not even expect him to leave his room yet...

09-20-2005, 12:21 PM
Maybe try adding some Metamucil or pumpkin to the baby food you are giving him.
Scritches to Boomer.

09-20-2005, 12:34 PM
Awww, its so great to see him out and about already!! Emily is such a sweet girl...how nice! :)

I bet he'll be fine as soon as Missy and Tyler come home. YAY!! Can't wait!!! :D

09-20-2005, 12:36 PM
Please make sure to have the camera ready for when Missy and Tyler get there. I am anxiously awaiting his reaction when he sees them.

Boomer, don't pretend you're not hungry. You didn't get to be a big boy by only eating 1/2 cup. Eat up, sweetie!

09-20-2005, 01:03 PM
Thinking about his lack of appetite... I know after a long flight (as long his flight) that I am not quite myself. I'm tired and out of sorts for a number of days. Boomer is probably suffering jet lag and confusion all at once. I am sure that once he's back together with Missy & Tyler the latter will be less of an issue.

He is quite the handsome guy!

09-20-2005, 01:19 PM
That is too funny about Emily following Boomer around. Didn't she and Eliot do the same thing to Dylan when he arrived?

09-20-2005, 01:27 PM
He has poo'd twice and they are small amounts and hard - constipation??

I don’t know what it is, but I have this problem every time I fly, especially overseas.:o

You should be able to find some kitty- laxative at the pet store
The pictures of Boomer and Emily are precious. She is such a sweet girl.
My females would never be that friendly to a newcomer.

09-20-2005, 05:57 PM
Come on, Boomer, crank up the appetite, dude! You don't want to greet your meowmie looking like a skinny guy, do you??

I'm so glad they are all getting along so well, esp. on such short notice.

Aww, Emily, you're a good girl!!!

09-20-2005, 06:20 PM
Sounds like Emily is your official good will ambassador. :D Every home should have one! :D As for food and poo's, I agree he may still be out of sort with all the changes, I'd keep an eye on him and see how he does once Missy & Tyler get there. As for the small poo's, since he's not eating much, he probably doesn't really have a lot to get rid of.

09-22-2005, 09:14 AM
Girl kitties!!

Yes, pnance - I think Emily is the good will ambassador...

Boomer is now out and about and part of the crew - found another hammock in the front dining room...

Back off buddy! *I* was here first!!

Eliot is such a playful kitty and so wants to play with Boomer - I am hoping they will become buddies. Everyone is really getting along well. No cuddling yet but Boomer has only been here a week now and I am thrilled at how well things have gone. Sirrahkitties have made me proud. Boomer seems as happy as can be - considering his world has changed completely. Tonight...Meowmie and Tyler!!!:D

09-22-2005, 10:30 AM
Oh drat. I got my days mixed up and thought Missy and Tyler were arriving last night and was hoping for pics of the happy reunion. ;) However, I'm not disappointed in the least by the pics of Boomer making himself to home. I'm glad he found the hammock because he seemed to so enjoy the one he used to have.

Can't wait for reunion pics! :D

09-22-2005, 10:48 AM
T & P - I did the same thing - I thought they arrived last night and not tonight.

Boomer is doing so well - that is amazing how in just a few short days he has just slipped into the team and is doing fine.

Dying to see the pictures of Tyler and Boomer together again!!!

09-22-2005, 01:59 PM
Debbie, you are making such wonderful progress introducing Boomer! Would you mind coming to SC and taking some time to work your magic on Mimi and Butter, who have lived together for over 4 years, and still don't get along??? :p

09-22-2005, 02:16 PM
I think once he sees Missy and Tyler he will be back to his oldself.

09-22-2005, 02:34 PM
Wow, that is some major progress in a weeks time for a little guy who has never seen another cat. I've never had smooth or quick introductions - everyone acts like wildcats here - so I'm just blown away.

I bet he will be back to 100% once Missy and Tyler arrive.

09-22-2005, 03:44 PM
Oh boy, Boomer, soon your meowmie and little brother will be with you! How happy you will be!!

He is really fitting in so well with your kitties. Guess they're all laid back!

09-23-2005, 08:44 AM
Nice photos. Boomer is a good looking kitty.
