Percy made a trip to see our wonderful vet on Monday (Dad took him in) with what I suspected was a UTI. (Waking up at 3 AM to the sound of constant scratching in the boxes and then in the bathtub...hint hint)
Anyhoo, they kept him, tested some Percy pee, and sure enough, a little infection was going. Started on a course of Clavamox, and he seems back to normal energy wise and much happier. I think we caught it early before it got too full blown, but this is the second cat in the Tribe to get this. Tiger had it bad in the summer.
Vet approves of the food we are feeding - Avoderm - but wondering if we're just unlucky or if there is something else we should be looking at nutritionally. I also give them a highly recommended supplement powder in their food.
Any suggestions are welcome!
thanks!

This situation sounds oh to familiar. The vet at ER says UTI arent catchable, I beg to differ. 2 cats in less than a month at our house. Makes you go hummmmmmmm.

Watch for the diarreha from the liquid Clavomox. Unfortunately it seems to bring it on after a few days of doses. Cindy just had it slightly and we were able to continue giving it to her. Eleanor had it bad and we discontinued after 5 days.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to catch Percy's UTI while it was still a minor one. I don't have any answers about how to prevent UTI's except to make sure that they drink lots of water. I've been adding some water to my furkids food and now they're used to it. I feed them a mixture of both wet and dry food. Some people also give their cats cranberry treats but some cats don't like them. I've never tried these before. Good luck and I'm glad to hear that Percy is feeling better.:)
