I came home tonight expecting my hubby to be here, but he's working late. So my plans for a movie were shot--much to the dogs' delight! More time for walks...

Does Pacer look happy to you?
Pacer has a special hippy-hop gait that he only uses when he is truly estatic. I love the look on his face! I wish I could find one of his shelter pics so you could see the difference in him!

Ozzy also came for a walk. He's a bit of a ham for the camera! "this is my good side, Mom."

Ozzy was thrilled to see his brother too. They haven't been for a walk together in a while. The pictures of them together were all blurs or empty. Need to use a faster setting for those two speed demons!

Mac posing in the fall foliage.

That's all--It was more fun than a movie anyway!

When will you do your first run with the sled?

We usually have enough snow by mid-November. Last year I think my first run was November 20. Some guys were out earlier, but I like to wait until there's enough snow to set a snowhook securely. I hate being left behind by my team!

Several times! I've never lost them on the way out, we've always been on the way home. That's a good thing since they will usually head for home. On the way out, I have no idea where they'd go. I didn't loose them last winter, but I walked home a couple times the year before. Sled dogs don't stop on command!

When I first started driving a dog team, a Quest musher told me that I couldn't call myself a musher until I'd walked home at least once without my team!

Yeah, the movie will be there tomorrow. The walk looks like a whole lot more fun. Pacer sure is a happy guy.
Okay, maybe I am not as jealous anymore of your dogsled runs. Walking home, huh? ;)

It is aggravating. I usually walk home cursing and swearing! Good thing the trails are usually empty!

The first thing you learn in running dogs is never let go of the sled. Every injury I've ever had has been from hanging on and getting dragged! Sometimes it doesn't work and they get away. Any musher who says they've never lost their team is lying!:p It happens to everybody eventually; it even happens to the big competitive teams! I use two snow hooks when I run more than six dogs and always have a rope to tie off to a tree if I can stop close enough to one.

I have a friend who used to have a leader who responded to "Yum Yums". If Shane got left behind all he had to do was yell that out and she would turn the team to come back and get a treat. She's crossed the bridge now and he's never been able to get another dog to do anything like that! Raven comes from his line and she's only too happy to run on without me!

Those wonderful, happy boys. Always bring a smile to our faces. I'm glad to see your trees are turning color too. I heard a nasty weather rumor that all the rain we've had today could possibly be snow tomorrow. Way too soon for that yet. Thanks for sharing your boys!! :D
