So many of you have been so kind to PM and ask about Missy - also responding to her threads - that I thought I would start this new one to update from time to time as it will be easy to find for those who are following her.
As of today - she will get up on her Sunday morning and travel by bus to the Tokyo airport to pick up Carol. Carol is Paul's mom and posts here as persianmom. She had already planned this trip in hopes of seeing Paul for a bit and then staying on to help Missy. Originally it was her vacation - but that was before any of us knew that Paul would get orders. So, she has missed seeing her son but I am so thankful that she decided to take the trip anyway!! But, by now you know that Paul had to leave much earlier and is now safely at his place of deployment. It took nearly a week, but Missy has received his e-mail to assure her he is fine.:)
Missy had been trying to find a new home for her cat Boomer. First, she was told by the airline there that he had to accompany her on her flight but she had no way to know for sure as each phone call gave her conflicting reports. She has also been scared about Boomer even making that long (28-30 hours total) travel in a small container to be transported from there to here. He is a skittish kitty who has always been an "only cat". But - thanks to many more phone calls - especially from our own Phred...it was determined that Boomer *could* inded be sent as cargo without being on the same flight as Missy. Nobody answered her newspaper ads or posters asking for a new permanent home for boomer in Japan. Also - Missy decided on her own that she did not want to part with this cat who is now very attached to Tyler. Then, about a dozen or more PT folks have chipped in to offset the cost of the shipping which is in excess of $700:eek: Yes, that IS the cost though it sounds outrageous. But it will be worth it when all is said and done.
Boomer will be coming to live here with our family of five cats. We are wondering how he will react to meeting another cat!! We will keep him until Missy and family return to the states for their next assignment when Boomer can then join them again. Plus, Missy will be here with us for the duration that hubby is deployed. They were allowed and so opted to retain their housing in Japan.
Missy and Carol will fly back to the states in about three weeks. My hubby Dennis has not even met his new grandson and Tyler will also meet his cousin Misha! Missy and Tyler will have her folks (I am mom), Paul's mom, her oldest brother and our DIL who is Carol's daughter Chris (chrangharris) - so many family members here to support her and spoil Tyler:) She and Tyler will be staying here at our house.
That is it for now - I hope you will enjoy the updates as I am sure Missy will also be posting once Carol arrives in Japan. Thank you!!

What a great idea for starting this thread, Debbie!! I will check it every day, as I am very concerned about Missie, Paul, Tyler, and Boomer!! I am so happy that Missy won't be alone while Paul is deployed: nothing better than having her family around now!!:)

Debbie, thanks for posting updates!
I have been following everything, but I didn't know if Missy had heard from Paul yet or not-I am so glad she has :)

Let me just tell you Debbie how much I admire you and your family. You're all the epitome of what a family should be. There is so much love among you and it's nothing but a pleasure to read everything that's posted by all of you. Your daughter is beautiful and obviously takes after her Mom. Tyler and Misha are also beautiful. I believe everyone at Pet Talk feels the love you have for each other and thanks for everything you do to make all your family feel special. Your family is fabulous!! We wish Missy,Tyler, and of course, handsome Boomer a safe and pleasant trip home. Paul, thank God for you. You're a brave soul and a wonderful man. God bless all of you:)
Love, Terry, Daisy and Delilah
p.s. please PM me if more $ is needed for Boomer's trip:)

What a wonderful idea! Let's keep this thread at the top. I am so glad that Missy finally heard from Paul. I know she was very anxious. I am also glad that Boomer will remain a part of the family. He and Tyler seem to have bonded and it is great that they will be able to grow together. I am glad that Missy doesn't have to make that long trip by herself, but so sorry Carol didn't get to see Paul before he was deployed. I am sure that Dennis is waiting anxiously to meet his grandson and I know that Misha and Tyler will get along famously!
I will keep looking for new updates!! Thank you!

:o They are fine. I just called and woke Missy up:o I told her go back to sleep quickly:D
I had spoken with Missy about 16 hours ago ...her Sunday morning and she was getting ready to go meet the bus. Tyler kept spitting up on his new outfits. That is not usual for him and she was a little worried. But he was not acting sick in any other way.
But.... she picked up Carol at Tokyo and they are home and sleeping now - well that IS what people do by 12:15am isn't it?? It was probably a very long day.

What a happy thread. :) Missy hearing from her beloved hubby, Boomer being able to stay with his family and Carol arriving safely in Japan.
I hope that Tyler just had a little upset tummy from the car ride and is doing okay.
Debbie, don't forget to get that camera ready for when Dennis finally gets to meet his grandson for the first time and I'm sure you will breath a sigh of relief once Missy, Tyler and Boomer are safe at home with you.
I also agree with Daisy and Delilah that you are the epitome of what a family should be.
Bless you all.

Paul was able to call:D :D He had to use a calling card, but we know that there is a way for him to call me here in Japan for free. He says that it's hot and dusty but that there was a cool breeze this morning. It's such a relief to hear his voice :)

oh yeah, Boomer LOVES Carol:D :D He flops over for tummy rubs and follows her around meowing for attention.
He is a COMPLETELY different cat then when we adopted him 2 years ago. It makes me wonder if maybe it was his previous owners who were just not very nice to him:confused:

Missy will get pictures once she is feelng better. When to the ER last night she was running 102.8 temp. Keep creeping up throught out the day. She has a breast infection. So she is on medication. She tells me it hurts to feed Tyler but she just grins and bears it. She is such a good mommie. Been just hanging around the house for now.I want her to get to feeling better. Tyler is so much like Paul was at this age. He is a happy baby. He smiles all the time. Even when he is getting crabby you can get him to smile and coo. Only time I hear him cry is if he is hungery or tried. Once he is fed and takes a nap he all smiles again. I love being able to hold him. Every morning I give him hugs and kiss from Grandma and Grandpa Harris and tell him how much he is loved by everyone. Take care everyone.
Love ya Carol

Thank you, Deb, for starting this thread, and you, Carol, for reporting in! I know it is a huge relief to Missy to have you there right now, especially since she is running a fever and feeling badly.
I am so happy for all of you. I know it won't be an easy trip for Boomer, but he has the perfect place to go to recuperate from his long trip. I'm sure that trip will be long for the humans too!
Thanks for the updates, ladies, and our prayers remain with all of you, especially Paul.

Boomer's flight is booked:D He will be arriving in America in one week. Missy and Carol fly the following week. I think sending Boomer ahead is the best option so they don't have as much to worry about when they make their flight.
Driving to Tokyo to ship Boomer will be a first for Missy - it can be very hectic as the traffic is like nothing I have ever seen before  It is only 100 miles or less but took almost SIX HOURS the first time hubby and I visited.
Also, this way, we pick up Boomer ahead of time and it will give us time to help him get adjusted and we can then get ready (readier!!) for Missy and Tyler to be here.:D
Please keep up the prayers and good thoughts PT friends!:)

Stay Tuned for Tails of the Great Adventure ~
I've converted the times to "Eastern Daylight Time".
Around MidNight tonight for us;
and midafternoon tomorrow (Wednesday) for Boomer -
Missy will toss him in the Porta-Prison and off they go to
Nirata International Airport (aka New Tokyo International Airport)
located 40 miles NE of Tokyo, Japan.
After check-in, Boomer will be loaded into a twin-engine Boeing
777-2000ER jet which becomes Continental Airlines
flight "CO 8 / 14Sep Narita to Newark (16:20 - 16:05)" and
is scheduled to take off from Narita at 4:20 PM Japan time
or 3:20 AM Eastern Time.

Departure @ 4:20 pm JAPAN Time is same as
3:20 AM Eastern Daylight Time (Wednesday).
Actual FLYING Time is 13 hours; with
Arrival at Newark (New Jersey) scheduled at 4:05 PM Wednesday Afternoon.
Boomer has a 4 hour Lay-over at Newark Airport
(which allows for delays on the Japan > Newark Flight)
Next he hops onto a smaller twin-engine Boeing 737-500 and settles in
for the short hop over to Columbus, Ohio, on Continental Airlines
flight "CO 753 / 14Sep Newark-Columbus (19:55 - 21:40)".
Scheduled Departure from Newark, NJ is at 7:55 PM and
Arrrives 1 hr 45 minutes later in Columbus, Ohio,
at 9:40 PM Eastern Time - Wednesday Night.
GranMom and GranPaw promise to be waiting in the Cargo Hanger
eagerly awaiting Boom's arrival!
Total Time ??
**:( EXTRA-EARLY Start for Pre-Flight "Health ChecK" scheduled
. . 5 hours before departure :( ~ Add another 6 Hours!
* Bus Trip to Narita Airport = 1-2 hours
* Check-In = at least 1 hour
* Flight Time - Japan > USA = 13 hours
* Lay-Over in Newark, NJ = 4 hours
* Flight Time - Newark > Columbus = ~2 hours
* Unload Delays = ~ 1 hour
* Bus Trip to HOME = another Hour & 15 minutes!

If I've understood from previous posts/replies, they cant use anything because if the airline suspects medication of anykind is used either given to an aniaml or in carrier they wont let the animal fly. It's a liability issue to the airlines.

No litter box:rolleyes: What they allow is "absorbant material" so Missy bought puppy pads to at least line the carrier. I think it is crazy to not allow a kitty even a small box but this is what Missy found out. He does have enough room to stand up and turn around. Poor baby. But what I keep saying is one awful day for him and then *no more flying*!!! He will be home in America:)

I posted this same thing in Cat General, but it'll have to do. I'm exhausted!
We're home! Right about now Boomer is probably at the Continental pet boarding place waiting for his flight. My cargo rep said that they would take him from us and get him some food and it sounded like he would get the opportunity to play a little (yeah right, like he's gonna play. He spent most of the car trip hunkered down in the corner of his crate but did sniff around a little while we walked around the airport. It was a 3.5 hour trip out there and a 2 hour trip back to the base.
His plane leaves Japan for New Jersey in 2 hours and I have every confidence in the capable pet reps at Continental airlines
I hated saying good bye to my Boomer, but I know that he will be with his grandmeowmie and grandpawpie soon
Thank you to everyone who's prayers and financial help made this trip possible!!!

For what they are charging there better be drinks, food and a movie. :)
That would be neat that there is an actual pet sitter with the animals.

WHEW!!! He's been in the air for TWO hours now!!! YAY!!!
Missy I am soooo glad that your drive went OK - WOW!!!
This is going to be a day Boomer will not want to remember - he was in that cage 12 houirs before he even took off  BUT....once we pick him up, get him home (maybe a bath) - we will be spoiling him so much that he will forget his day - the destination is the best part of the adventure :D Sure wish he could talk and tell us all about it.
Phred - when do you sleep???:p
edit: off the phone with Missy and they have been home quite awhile. The drive to and from Tokyo was hectic but she did it!:D Boomer huddled in the cage - but this is usually what he does.
They read his microchip which I think is terrific. ALL pets in Japan have to be microchipped and they used an "Avid (http://www.avidmicrochip.com/)" reader and Boomer's chip is "Home Again (http://www.homeagainid.com/) " Kuhio posted all about these chips (http://www.petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88253) .
Boomer has at least one travel companion and that is a little cocker spaniel. Right now I bet they have gotten acquainted and grumbled about the delay - but are now sound asleep!!
See you tonight Boomer!!

I know that there is at least one other dog on board with him. There was an adorable cocker spaniel there waiting to be taken over to the Continental pet area. I think that there must be someone on board because they talk about keeping them watered and fed, but I'm not sure. Yes Craftlady, for the price they ought to be serving him caviar on a silver platter:rolleyes:
A couple days before the trip- Boomer has a very good body-image and thinks that he can fit in this little condo:rolleyes:

I have to say that I am blown away and yet soooo comforted that so many of you are rooting for my family right now. Hubby just grins and shakes his head when he reads about what all you folks are saying and doing.:D
Me - I have Misha over today - she is napping now. Mama Chris is here, too - working on homework....Missy, Tyler and Carol *should* be snoozing away by now as it is 11:15pm in Japan.
After a study group we have tonight from 7-8, we are headed out a bit early for Columbus and will wait for Boomer. It is a little over a one hour drive. Then we will get home - probably midnight or so EST. We will settle Boomer in and probably sleep in there with him. My plan is to take the digital camera to get a few pictures tonight but depends on how hectic things are. But I am a PT Meowmie and we usually provide pictures of all sorts of things:D

Still over Canada;
They've turned right and are now headed SouthEast
towards Newark, NJ.
ETA for arrival at Newark is still shown as 5:16 PM Eastern Time;
but with 3 hours to go, that's still a bit of a guess.
New Jersey Weather:
Scattered showers have developed across central new jersey. These showers, although widely scattered in nature may cause a brief period of heavy rain. They are moving north at around 10 to 15 mph and will stay mostly west of the hudson river.
This afternoon: Partly cloudy. Humid with highs in the upper 80s.
South winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers.
Patchy fog after midnight. Humid with lows in the upper 60s.
Southeast winds around 5 mph.
None of ths weather should bother Boomer's landing nor
his take-off at 7:55 PM for Columbus.

Hey y'all, if/when it works, this tracking site is GREAT!
But sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. You need to select (1) "Continental Airlines" and then (2) flight number "008", then (3) select graphical version. Right now it seems to be working.

Continental Airlines claims to be A-#1 in PetCare!
They have a special "Pet Desk" that keeps track of ALL Live Animal
shpments in their aircraft any any animals they have responsibility
for but have shipped on another caarrier's aircraaft ...
The "Pet Desk" is manned 24/7 with a Cargo Agent that has authority
to "boss" agents at other cargo terminals - to Insure that
SOMEone knows an animal is on board an aircraft and goes out
to unload and care for the animals.
If an animal seems sick or injured - Continental arranges for immedient
Vet care and notifies the shipper and recipient.
Newark Airport - being an International Terminal for Continental -
probably sees LOTS of animals arriving & departing -
there's probably a VERY Pet-Friendly Cargo Handler there that just
LOVES to run out to Meet & Greet the Furry cargos!
Between the central "Pet Desk" and the Locals - I'll bet Boomer has
a calm rest in Newark and gets on board the Columbus plane
in plenty of time!

Boomer, you're a real champ!
No matter what I'm doing, I always gravitate back to the computer to check on his status. You'd think it was my cat!?
Not long now, little buddy! No doubt he is wondering where Tyler is?!

OK, right now Boomer is at a "T-point" waiting to be transfered to his next plane. He couldn't give me any specific information about Boomer but he said that all of the animals out of Narita were doing fine. He said that there are pet reps there to look after all of the animals and give them some ice water or ice cubes to drink. At least he's not just sitting in a warehouse by himself :D

How Exciting! Welcome to the USA, sweet Boomer!

Grandpaw and GrandMeowmie just out of our class and stopped by the house to check the flight status and grab the camera. Looks like we don't need to rush but will be leaving in a couple minutes anyway. The cargo place closes at midnight but with us sitting there....:D Will get him home. Oh yes and grabbing a leash too - so he won't be climbing all over the car. Thanks all and bye for now!:)
I am also going to call the petdesk and see what they say - will call cargo also.

That prolly ain't gonna happen. :(
Just got off the dinger with a real, warm blooded Passenger Rep ~
The hold-up is the plane that has to get to Newark to become
Flight 753 - was LATE leaving Newburg, New York!
Boomer is *waiting* for Flight 808 to get to Newark ...
Flight 808 is now due to land at Newark at about 8:58 PM ...
She said it will take at least 30 minutes to empty, load and
fuel that plane ...
She "guesses" that Boomer's #753 won't be ready for
"push-back and taxiing" till 9:30 pm at the earliest. ...
Then they have to hope for a take-off slot to be available.

I just got done reading all the posts. Better suspense/adventure novel than the John LeCarre book I just finished!
Good to know that Boomer has some Pet Reps looking in on him and checking his status.
Keep the updates a-comin' Phred!
Go Boomer - you're almost home!
Lordy, you would think it was TYLER on the plane by himself with all of us at the edge our seats.
But the idea of wonderful Boomer being caged all of this time - and yes, having to listen to some New JOISY accents - has me completely wrapped up in this story.
(with apologies to all of those from New Jersey that I have offended!!)

Here's why the story gets confusing >>>
"Flight maps include proprietary data that is intended for World Wide Web
and users may not link the data for any purpose to a third-party site
or retransmit the data as part of a commercial enterprise.
FlightView map information delayed 20 minutes per FAA requirements."
The Reps have "the Real Story" on their puters ...
most of what WE can see is delayed by 20 minutes!

The "Arrival Times" are questionable at best ...
The Continental "internal" puters (that the Passenger Reps can see)
give the following "true" times >>>
9:12 pm was the "Push-Back & Taxi Out" time
9:48 was the "Wheels Up" time at actual take-off ...
Boomer apparently "sat"on the taxiway holdng for a take-off slot.
The Continental "SCHEDULED" flight time is 1:45 ...
but opinions differ on if that does or does not
"include departure and landing TAXI times" ----
Continental is currently estimating "arrival" at 11:11 ...
hard to say if that's "touch-down" time or
actual arrival AT the GATE.
Last Gal I talked to said ALL the "flight tracker web sites" -
including Continental's FlightView -
have that manditory 20 minute FAA delay.
So Boomer "otta" be on the ground sometime between
11:11 and maybe 11:30 ... give or take.

We got to the cargo place - I think about 10:50. The guys said 753 was due in at 11:11....but within a few minutes they said he was already down and the cargo man went right out to pick him up instead of waiting to have him brought over. Said he would be back in about 20-25 minutes.
While we were waiting - phone rang and it was for me :D Phred!
While I was talking to him....here comes Boomer!!!

He had big ole saucer eyes and was looking out at us - dad took his pic...

Signed paperwork and went out to the car. He had peed in there but did not seem like very much and he does not need a bath or anything. I sat in back and let him out, took his collar off - and he then climbed back into the carrier for the ride so I just left my hand at the door and he sniffed it now and then. Oh and I took out all the paper out, and cleaned the carrier out really well while he was on the seat next to me. Not a peep out of him all the way home!!
Brought the carrier in and set it in his new room and opened the door. He came right out - sniffed the litterbox and then under the bed. About 2-3 minutes later he came out to sniff a bit and then hid under the pak -n play. We left a small lamp on and left him alone in there. There is food and water for him. He seems just fine - we will let him hide as he wants. He was in the crate for 32 hours but it is all behind him now!!!:D
This was the scene right outside his door!

A big, fat "phew" is the way I feel! Great big sigh of relief that Boomer is fine (the picture of him in the cage and those big eyes just tugged at my heart!).
Poor lil guy must wonder what in the world has happened to him and what could be next??
Chill, Boomer! You can relax and be pampered and coddled for a while. Let Grandmeowmie and Grandpaw spoil you a little bit!
Your meowmie and brother will join you soon!!
P.S. LOVE the welcoming committe at the door!!!
