i have a 1 year old toy poodle mix. i took her to the vet about a week ago. the vet said she has tartar on her teeth and she gave me doggy tooth paste and these chews. today she started gaging and spiting up clear stuff. does anyone know if it's because of the toothpaste or chews?

(the tooth paste brand is enzadent. the chews are virbac C.E.T. hextra.)

doesn't get along with the toothpaste. The guess here is that the toothpaste is creating a stomach irritation, causing increased stomach acid, and the regugitation of stomach fluids. It's doubtful the chews are causing the problem.

Try stopping the toothpaste for a few days to see if things clear up. Once they do, give puppy some food first before trying to brush the teeth. A full stomach is less sensitive to acid irritations induced by other things.

ok thanks, but she WONT eat unless she's hungry. and it takes her like the intire day to eat only half of it. so should i give her treats or something before i brush her teeth?

My two monsters eat their dinner (or breakfast) in about 20-30 seconds flat! They barely taste it.

The key I believe will be to get something in the puppy tummy before attempting to brush. Dog treats, whatever works. Try it and see what happens.

today she ate half of her food so i brushed her teeth. its been about 2 1/2 hours, and so far she hasn't had any problems. i think when she runs out of toothpaste i will get her a different brand. thanks again for helping me!
