View Full Version : Kewpie, and what I think is a UTI

My little Kewpie woke me up this morning, then showed she me where she'd pee'd a drop or two on the bed. Out of bed like a flash..followed her to the litter box room where she proceeded to jump in and out after waiting to pee and nothing happening.

I've been down this road before with Tinkerbelle a year ago, and from reading and learning here, I knew it was time for an emergency vet visit.

There was no urine to express, so I ended up having to leave her so that they could get and test it.

I also asked the vet about Baytril. She said she usually starts them off with clavamox (she did with Tinkerbelle and that didnt work) and that Baytril is the last resort drug. She did say that since they found that Baytril could affect cats the same as it did in causing blindness in dogs, they have lowered the doses.

My poor little baby. :( I'm waiting for the vet to call and tell me to come pick her up and give me the plan of treatment.

I am beside myself as if I needed one more thing to worry about my mother is in radiation and chemotherapy for lung cancer which is extensive stage. It's getting tough to handle. :(

Please some good thoughts?

Thanks for reading.

So sorry to hear this and problems with your Mother. Good thoughts and prayers to all of you!

I hope they can avoid the Baytril for Kewpie if possible. After what happened to Onyx I would be leary. They gave me that for Gidget back the end of May and we were fortunate, that was before I heard of the possible side effects.

Anyway, I hope you hear soon. Please let us know.

I am not going to allow her to give Kewpie Baytril. I agree totally I'm so glad that we were alerted to that with Onyx, or I might have asked for that initially this time. With this information I will not let that happen.

I know, with Tinkerbelle I must have been extremely lucky, she had Baytril shots once a day for a week a year ago. I thank my lucky stars nothing happened with that.

I havent heard yet but will post back when I do.

Thank you again. I just hate this when they cant tell you what is wrong with them, the poor little things.

Thank you Barbara. :)

And Gary, as always you show your great support and compassion, it simply blows me away. I feel much better Mr. Fluffy Angel is flying in. I thank you as well from the bottom of my heart. Also for including my mother as always, and for dispatching Mr. Scrappy and pouncer as well..

There is an update but not much of one.

Bad news is she is still at the vet's, she's fine, I'm not too worried about her being stressed or anything she's regularly easy going, not at all like her sister Stinky. She is staying overnight as they have been unable to get a sample from her which is (as they told me before) not unusual. They make a big fuss over her there and she gets tons of attention, and I'm told she's playing/eating etc.

Good news is she is NOT displaying any of the distress she was this morning.

So weird...but even though I dont like her being there overnight, it's best to find out the scoop on if there really is an infection or not.

But I do know what I saw this morning and it was a classic display of a UTI.

They are going to call me in the morning, and we'll go from there.

Maybe Mr. Fluffy Angel did his work already. :)

Thanks again.

I'm sorry to hear that Kewpie is sick.:( Hopefully it's just a mild case of UTI and she'll recover quickly and feel better soon. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

I will keep good thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. You were lucky that she showed you signs of UTI. Our poor Thumper didnt and just got really sick in a very short period of time.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. You are absolutely correct, they usually hide their symptoms. I had that with Tinkerbelle..then it becomes harder to treat.

Thank you as well.

The vet called this morning, they were finally able to get urine from her, she said that there is definitely blood in the urine, so they started her on Clavamox. They are doing a full urinalysis and a Bacteriology and will get back to me with the results of both.

She seems fine except she wont settle, I'm putting that down to being kept there overnight and right now she's so tired her eyes keep closing...hopefully she'll calm down soon and sleep.

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers so much.

I will post back with any new developments.

Thanks G535. Kewpie seems to be doing ok. Mom is having a really rough time. Something new and awful every day.

I really appreciate it. :)
