Marigold is doing something odd. When she's in the downstairs bedroom she'll let me pet her and she will nuzzle me and let me stroke her. However when she is in the upstairs bedroom, whe she sees me and when I try to pet her, she'll spit at me and hide under the bed. Am I doing something wrong?

I have a foster Abby who likes to sleep in her carrier. I MUST NOT touch her when she's in there, but if she's on the chair, she rubs against me and wants pets. I think Marigold and Abby are just being...cats!:D

LOL they are so stuck up aren't they? Katie gets like that, in the kitchen she does not want pet, but anywhere else in the house is fine.

I'm wondering if Maragold has toys, food, or some object hidden away that she's especially attached to upstairs that she's trying to protect? It kind of sounds like Marigold considers upstairs HER turf and she's letting you know that you're tresspassing.

:) How funny && I agree with momcat on upstairs is Marigold's turf or something she is hiding..

Do Daisy & Nikki hang out more in the upstairs room by chance? Maybe she's unsure of where she fits in the pecking order that cats develop, and smells the other girls more in that room? She'll get over it...especially if you use that room to give her extra special treats! ;)

DÃ_lle's funny that way too. She loves nothing more than to be pet while I'm lounging in the tub or something, but will get downright snotty otherwise a lot of the time. I agree that it may just be a cat thing

I have a similar situation with my Emmy. I am only allowed to pet her on HER terms. Maybe they are just reminding us who the boss really is???

There's no question about who owns who around our place. Groucho lets me live here!
