View Full Version : A Dog's Soul

Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grevances
are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad,
the wrong way from the right,
and where his judgement carefully
is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place
where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
he trusts in and confides.
And when accused unjustly for
himself, he cannot speak,
Rebuked, he finds within his soul
the comfort he must seek.

He'll love, although he is unloved,
and he'll serve tho' badly used,
and one kind word will wipe away
the times when he's abused.
Although his heart may break in two
his love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding soul.

This one brought tears to my eyes.

As the new mom of a 2 yr old rescue st. bernard, I always wonder what he went thru before he came to us.

Thanks for posting this

What a nice poem. Thank you. It is true about all small and/or helpless creatures. It is true about little children too. Yes?

Isn't that the neatest poem ? I thought you guys would
appreciate it. Wish I could put my thoughts & feelings about
the the true spiritual connection between dogs (all animals)
and humans, into words so well. Dogs are very unique &
special creatures.

Sasvermont,

Yes, definately, little children. The innocence, the trust
is just the same...

Thank you Liz, that was beautiful. Makes me think of my Cody and her painful past...sniff, sniff. My sig. quote is meant to convey the same thought. What special, special souls they are:)

That poem pulls the heartstrings of the owners of past abused dogs, I am sure. I know it pulls on mine for that reason.

I loved the poem, Liz. It brought tears to my eyes. Dogs are so wonderful to forgive and learn to trust and love again :)

Everytime I re-read the poem while catching up on
posts, I get a different meaning from it.

I think part of the poem (2nd paragraph) can also
mean that dogs can adjust also to our well meaning
mistakes in understanding him/her as a dog, and also
can overlook our mistakes in training, etc.. They love
us anyway !!!

Animals are a great gift to us , and they can teach us
so much. Liz.
