my heart weights over thousand pounds and thought I'd count on you guys!!
some of you have known my precious little guy, chance has been through a lot last week already. neutering, not breathing, stayed in ICU overnight, came home all clumsy, weak, unhungry and tires a lot.
until just yesterday, he seems all better! he especially likes to surprise & bounce on (at least) one of his furriends. and runs up to the top of the cat tree, then down so quick that nofurry could catch him. he was having fun until this morning, running around anxiously from a corner to another, trying to get his hot, hot bowels out - he'd just run endlessly (only on tiles, thankfully!) and tried to go until I picked him up and took him to bathroom, shut the door from others so he'd be alone and calm down! I stayed in there with him, reinforcing my chance.
he finally did his business, 50% softer still easy to pick up and it's about 60% covered in blood! he crieeees. :( :(
I'm extremely stressed out, I absolutely don't have any dollar more on me right now and I can't bring him to any vet unless I find one that would allow me arrange an payment. I know I shouldn't wait on this little guy any longer, what I can do now is to call his dr. coast and see if he'd at least compromise billing me or can tell me what to do next. :(
please wing over a hopeful vibe for chance & hope it's nothing serious. he's only seven months old, that hurts more. :( *taking a deep sigh*

I decided to email doctor coast so I'd get the questions directly to him. he usually checks his email on weekends too and now I'm waiting!
chance seems fine, has been chasing a biiig fly. :) he ate his breakfast okay this morning too. I'll be back with new update.
god bless you!

Gina, I didn't check in much yesterday so I just saw this. I hope Chance is doing better today. He sounds like he is feeling OK. Did you get any answer from the vet yet?

:( he does that again this morning on tile. but probably 40% covered in blood this time. and is now playing with his plushy catnipped mouse.
strange.. if I've had blood in mine, I wouldn't feel too good!
no message from the vet yet, I expected that. but hopefully by tomorrow!! right now I'm soothing him tummy with few pumpkin bites.
get back to you soon,

Gina, you are of course right to check with a vet...and of course follow their advice, but I have had cats do this for several not very serious reasons.
1. they have been going a lot and the inside end of their tract is irratated. If the blood is bright red and on the outside of the poo, this is often the case.
2. they have what amounts to a cat hemeriod which bleeds on occassion...again bright red on the outside of the poo and the bleeding stops almost immediately after the b.m is done.
If the poo is all very dark, marbled throughout with blood or looks like coffeegrounds, there are more likely to be more serious issues going on than irratated tissues...
His playing, eating, etc. are good signs.
Good wishes....

thank you, barncat! as I have worked in animal hospital before and only work in emergency rooms so I don't really know that much about "basic" (exam room) problems -

this probably is.
he did again this morning but in the tub bath this time with a blood trail. :( he wiped his rear against it, I wonder what must have really hurt him. it's the worst diarrhea today. about 20% of blood covered too. and is still being a silly boy. I'm still gonna keep an eye on him in case he gets lethargic. I just pray it isn't the beginning of giardia (chronic tummy bacteria) or IBD (inflammatory bowel disease).. IBD is a constant, most struggling problem..yikes. what I'm worried is chance could been caught with conjunctivitis from his mother, star. star was found with awful conjunctivitis and treated immediately. please, please god, not let it be.
it has been all day now, I gave up and gave my dr. coast another call, only the nurse answered. I asked her to have dr. coast check my email asap. she informed me that dr. coast is out sick today..argh. that's probably is why he hasn't answered my weekend email.....sigh.
so, I did some research on temporary (home) remedies for him.. pumpkin bites is what they offer most (rice & cooked chicken actually). I'm gonna add some more nibbles to digest better but afraid that'd hurt him more.
thank you all for your thoughts and chance'd like you to see him!

I'm crying now.. :( I was happy to see his better poo poo (this time in the sink), it's harder but soft and a little bit softer than usual. there was a lot of dark red/purple blood/mucous covered the end of his poop-sides still though.
after I cleaned up, it was their breakfastime - chance never came.. :( I saw him laying fown up the highest of cat tree, whistled for him, he wouldn't lift his head up that much - opened his eyes slowly, scared the daylight out of me - I ran up to him, took him into my arms. he was purring very, very lightly and not wanting go down as usual. :( he was so warm and so quiet.. on way out to all day meeting, I called the local vet, panicking what to do. argh, I kept on getting disconnected while stopping at redlights.
I came back home hoping he'd at be least himself! I found him ducking in crayola's toychest. he's not the chance I know. :( I'm glad his temp is cooler than this morning. I tried his baby rice & pieces of chicken again, he only took two or three bites. he isn't interested in playing at all - swatted his brothers off as "leave me alone, I don't feel good!" :(
I'm afraid, since how he behaves like this today after his red/mucous diarrhea, it's a symptom of colitis (large intestine inflammatione) - especially in young cats like him! :(
it is time now, I am going to take him to vet tomorrow- (walk-ins permit). they can't really make me pay if I don't have anything on me but I know I will find a way. just for my dear chance boy, I can't afford risking anything.
please send in thoughts that he'll get throughout the night okay!

thank you, it really helps seeing these first thing in morning.
bad news: he did again this morning in corner of the kitchen, looks much same yesterday. firm enough, less mucous.
good news: I got an email back!! I emailed him again last night, added...explaining chance's behavior.
another good news: chance must be so hungry and ate his breakfast! probably he spiked a fever yesterday.
in dr. coast's email, he has a feeling it's colitis too and said chance is not needed to be seen. he already handed in chance's medication to the receptionist, I can pick it up today. and asked me to not worry about money right now. I'm very grateful for someone who's considerate like him!! the today's email really helps everything. wooo! now I only need to focus on chance, my sweetie.
barbara, when chance stayed overnight in ICUroom, he had some more blood tests, one of them was for coccidia too & all came out negative. but it has been two weeks now, reaction to giardia would take about 2-3 weeks, also, rice I've been giving him wouldn't help if it was coccidia. his poops are still getting better even though he didn't ate much last night.
looks like the day is better for both of us! chance meows, "we'll be back."

:(
I just got home now (9PM), of course, I desperately wanted to check on chance - he wasn't moving very much and is very hot. that's colitis! but I am home with a treatment finally...just gave him metronidazole suspension (1/4 of 1cc), he hates it. I'm soo glad it's not a pill so he'd not spit out.
here's the worst.. putting the liquid bottle away in cabinet and found new, freshy bloody bigger poop. :( I knew it wasn't from one of those kiteenager boys. (mother/son poops, you know?) I checked the back of (9) adult cats, especially star first! (her herstories of conjunctivitis).. well yep, I found a clump of dried blood on her long-haired rear. it was her, the same red/purple mucous soften poop.
I'm not sure if I should give her a droplet of metronidazole too, am afraid she'd react differently. (she's allergic to three medicines when I first got her)...so frustrating and overwhelming when there's no actual answer. again, she seems okay.
murphy's law is really funny.. when I'm happy with chance's goodness, bad news came. when I'm sad, worried, goodness came. maybe I should think negative from now and on..
night for now - thanking hugs,
..gina, star & chance!

Unfortunately, that's how it is sometimes when we have so many cats. I finally got Puddy's situation under control but now my little deaf cat, Creamsicle, is going to the vet today. This yowling that she's doing has gone on long enough. I'm 99% sure it's behavioral, related to Peeka's passing and Puddy leaving for 5 1/2 days. But in the off chance it isn't, I don't want to short change her. So much for new draperies.........
Hang in there and faws and pingers are crossed.

thanks furrykidsmother & medusa!
medusa, I know.. having an ark is a little bit harder.. lol. but star? I expected that. she wasn't in great condition for SO long, after having babies too (december 22nd when I found her to last week of february). how is creamsicle today? any better, I hope so!
as of today, I've not find any poops outside the box since two nights ago (8/31). I checked the box selmonly, it's hard to tell if there's a lot/a bit of red mucous.
I've been giving them 1/4 of 1CC metronidazole twice a day. only for five more days. (I called star's vet yesterday and told me I could give her chance's metronidazole too and will mail me the second bottle if needed). star doesn't mind the liquid (whew) and chance still hates it. it smells a little bitter to me.
star & chance is doing fine so far! they romped, chased CRAZY! I've began to wonder if metronidazole has some caffine! chance runs & disappeared in a blink - has been doing that for an hour last night. star usually is a very independent quiet sweetie, keeps herself out of everyone's (except her boys) way everyday but yesterday, she played with shaddow (my dolly tonkinese)'s nipmouse and wrestled my happy little big black boy, ocean! I know she only likes her toy, the one that cats never touch. this is the happiest happiness. :D

Gina, I'm glad to hear that both Chance and Star are doing better. I've also been giving this medicine to both of my kittens Pearl and Starr for their diarrhea. They don't like that taste very much and Starr's stools are still mushy so I don't know if it's helped him or not. I'm not sure about Peal's stools because I don't usually see her go. I haven't noticed them acting any differently either. Kittens are always running around and being hyper. LOL:)

hello everyone,
star will be home today only if she gets better. she had a stroke and we can't give her anymore metronidazole. :( poor little star, it's her 4th "can't-have" medication. we'll be trying new medication for her recovers, I dread that now. (should I, we try?)
on other note, chance's fine, being a little brave fellow, actually a new troublemaker now. he only has 8 metronidazole droplets left.
please keep star in your thoughts and send more stars for her. she's a very scared and confused sweetie right now. she usually could bite anybody when she feels threatened but at the emergency room, she wimped & curled up in a ball, that broke my heart. :(

hi, just got back from mini pet meeting (san francisco/djfyrewolf) and didn't had time updating.. star is home!
I got a call from the vet about 6PM and asked me to pick her up then raced her to home and had her seperated in bathroom with comfty blankets while I'm gone to the party.
back now, she seems allright, still a little bit confused & groggy from 2CC subq injection. we've decided to not give her any prescription right now so we wait & see.
krazykatz - yes, that's what the vet thought. possibly of (too much?) metronidazole causing high blood pressure until cardiblood going too fast - she got too hot. actually at first, she had a couple of seizures, that scares me the world out! then on way, a stroke. :(
I'll be keeping an eye really close to her overnight -- thank you for the hugs!! star really needed them and we appreciated very much.

I'm still kinda of broken coming back to those hard forums (healths/memorials) and haven't eaten for a few past days.
I thought I'd update you a little about star anyway as everyone else is doing allright, at least filling up their flu tummies. but this poor little star girl is still not motivated to eat & tryless. :( continuing her mucous poos around out the box. I'm taking her back to dr. coast tomorrow morning for her renewal exam (another full blood panel), barium enema, gastrointestinal series if necessarily and x-ray scans if must.
please, we could use more stars above us and hugs for me.
an ark hug,
..all of us.

thanks everyone!! sirrahdeb, don't worry - I've eaten this morning & will eat, I'm still hungrry! :)
okay, I just got back from dr. coast's office with nothing, no best answer. :( star had her barium enema exam this morning, also G.I. series - they both showed nothing but had her full blood tests. dr. coast didn't think x-ray scans were necessaried because he didn't feel or see any imflammation inside her and would rather wait for the lab results, probably around by this wednesday - waiting is the hardest part!! :( he said waiting for blood results would be best, they should show something that films didn't find if star has some issues, (bacteria? virus? etc..) if not, he don't think it would be a serious problem.
well, I trust him in his words, I know he cares a lot about my cats so I hope I'm counting right on him. also during the visit, star's assistant said she was purring after she gave her some treats.. ( the treats were shaped in the stars! :D ).. that's the best news I heard! she rarely purrs when I'm not around.. well, hope she's not going to somebody else because she's mad at her meowmie!
now we have two or three more days.. I pray the blood result will put us to the worriless end! so we all will eat, sleep, play well soon.
thank you all again, hugs -

Prayers continue for Star that it is nothing serious. Yes, the waiting is very hard. I am sure that Star isn't mad at you, I think they know when you are trying to help them as much as they don't like to be there.
Please let us know as soon as you hear something.

Hello: I just came across your postings, and I'm wondering if perhaps Star has irritable bowel disease? It sounds like the symptoms. We have seen this IBD clear up in 24 - 48 hours when fed a diet of raw meat - which is what cats eat in their natural environment. Please let me know if you would like any further information, and I would be very pleased to share some experience.

hi gayle! so wonderful that you appeared here & could help, I would try anything for her to shine again!
yes, please share here or PM, whethever you like. right now her mucous bowels are getting better, still liquidy because she haven't really ate much lately, only all the subquefluids. (400-450cc total so far) - have you seen star's two more (of latest update) threads outhere in cat general? (My Fading Star & My Dimming Star)
thank you!! god bless you,
..the dear star & hopeful meowmie..

gayle, somebody asked me a good question, what raw meat do you recommend?
this is my first time with this serious illness, situation I've had since I got my first cat. I'm not sure if she'll chew something right now as she didn't wanted to swallow much of wetfood this morning/afternoon.
the reason I wondered if you've checked her other threads to see if your 'methods' would work for her kidney failure too.

If we're talking about chronic kidney failure, it is not a very good prognosis - and better to keep the cat on the food she is used to. However, if there is still kidney function, try switching to raw. I recommend that you pick up a small amount of different kinds of meat, and see if you can find which one she prefers - chicken, turkey, beef (fresh, human grade only). If this is chronic kidney failure, and your cat is on sub-q fluids, this does not sound promising. I believe that this is usually a case where there is no kidney function at all. If you would like any further info, I would be happy to share what I know. Good luck, and keep trying!:)

okay I will, I think she'll love for some chickens. she didn't liked turkey as much as beef. but not liking beef as much as chicken - thank you gayle. hopefully she'll eat some today when I grab some!
well, she doesn't have a kidney failure exactly yet, BUN (blood urea nitrogen) was only near 60 and above 75 is CRF (chronic renal failure).. since she went down so quickly, doctor coast was afraid it's being unfunctionally & she'll might need a kidney transplant if it looks like a next option. :(
to see the latest update of my dear girl - my shading star (http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89021).
thank you everybody again, many hugs,

I hope that Star is eating her chicken! I am so glad that you have come to Star's rescue felinefuture!
Gina, I am still full-out praying for you and Star anytime I think of God, or start praying.
Boo was feeling upset, I have recently learned how to meditate, so, I held Boo in my lap, and she seemed to relax, and feel better. It's a long shot, but maybe Star will relax more if you meditate with her?-I know it won't solve the problem, but, maybe she will be more comfortable. Maybe she will eat?
