We've had Roscoe for several months now, and he and the cats still are not getting along. The cats are still a little scared of him. I think he wants to play with them, and maybe he doesn't realize that they are still a little scared. Last weekend I woke up and Roscoe and Katie were both laying in bed with me (on opposite sides of the bed of course). I thought it was a great breakthrough. Then last night, Roscoe and Belle were nose-to-nose smelling each other, but then he barked and sorf of jumped at her. Do you guys think they'll ever get along?

I think they might because my two cats did the same thing when we took home our dog and now they lick each other, good luck:)

They may not ever be best of buddies but by the sounds of it they are kind of getting along. You didn't say anything about hissing & growling so that is great news!!

Thanks guys! I sure hope they get better. There used to be a good bit of hissing and growling, but things have calmed down in that respect. I just want them to be pals. The cats tend to hide in 'their' room most of the time anymore. I know it's getting better, just wanted to see what you guys thought!

I am sure over time they will all be fine with each other. My RB Shadow used to bark and jump at the cats when he would get excited and want to play. He was trying to intice them into a game of chase. It usually worked. Especially with Vixen. He would flatten himself to the floor, stick up the butt, bark and then make a jump at her. She would proceed to swat him and then jump over him, attack his tail and then they were off. Always playing. He never once hurt her. She was only a little thing of just over 1 lb when they started that and he was 140 lbs.

Don't worry Jen I am sure they will all start to get along and once the kitties realize Roscoe wants to play and not hurt them then you will have regular races aroung the house. :D

Oh thank you so Michelle! I have also been worried about the size difference (he's a little over 100 lbs., they are 7 & 14 lbs). I know it takes time, just want to make sure that they will most likely get along in the future. I can't wait for the races! LOL Thanks everyone!

I have a 1 year old toy poodle mix pup. Before I ask the question, I will tell you a little about her. I got her when she was 7 weeks old, from my best friend. She is potty trained, and knows several commands. She is mostly well behaved, except two things. One, is that whenever she hears a little noise or someone knocks and the door, or something, she starts barking like crazy. She wont stop until she finds out what the noise is. And two, is that if she accidently gets out of the fenced yard she runs and runs and wont listen to me. It is really hard to get her. But in the house and in the fenced yard she follows me EVERYWHERE. how do I fix these problems?

Roscoe likes to try to run away too  he is starting obedience training next month. I don't actually have any ideas myself on how to help, have you thought about obedience training? A trainer should be able to help.

Welcome to pet talk! :D

thanks. my mom really cant afford obedience training right now.... and the closest one is a half hour away. When we got my pup we agreed i was the one who would train her. but i cant drive cuz i am too young. so i will have to train her myself.

You might want to start a new thread about this in dog behavior. I don't really have any ideas (I'm not very good at training - I'm too much of a softie LOL). I bet other people will have more ideas for ya! :)
