View Full Version : I know it's routine, but I'm going to faint
Reece is going in for his teeth cleaning tomorrow :( :(
I am so freaked out. I have already called them and bugged them 7 times in the last 2 weeks making sure that everything will be okay. I have to drop him off by 8am in the morning and can't pick him up until sometime between 4 and 6. I am so scared. Ugh uggggggggggh ugh!!!

Hang in there. It will be fine. Killian has had it done so many times!!! It'll be over before you know it! Good luck!

Now, how's Reece supposed to be a brave big boy when mama's all scaredy cat? Give hima tummy skritch, tell not to bite any of the white-caots, and he'll have an even prettier smile when he's done.
All will be well, I am sure! :D
Good luck Aly and Reece!
Try not to worry too much, I know it's easier said than done. It doesn't matter how routine things are I also tend to become a nervous wreck! :)

Best of luck to mr. Reece man. I will be thinking about you and Reecie today. I hope that everything goes fine, I know it will.
Reece will have the most beautiful smile when he's all done! I can't imagine Reece being any cuter then he is, he's such a little doll, but after today, he'll get EVEN CUTER!!!!! :D :D :D
Best of luck, Mr. Reece Man. Please let us know how it went when you find out, Aly.
I'll be thinking of little Reece today too. Tell him that I have an appointment to have my teeth cleaned tomorrow (Thursday) so we have something in common. :)

We're thinking of Reece here too. My Bailey and Tizzie had their teeth cleaned many times. Other than the damage to my checkbook, we never had a problem, even when they were oldies. But I know of what you speak ....the worry. There just isn't any way around it.
Well we're going out the door now. I have about 3 pieces of gum in my mouth so he won't be able to tell how nervous I am. This crying can't be helping any though.
Thanks for the support. I know I'm being a baby about it. But I really am worried about if he'll have to throw up, what will happen? Because he does throw up bile sometimes and did 5 times Monday morning. I am going to talk to them about this.

Oh Aly, I wanted to wish you well before you left.:( But I know that by the time you are reading this, the Reece Man will be snoozing off his sleepies, safe in his Mommy's arms! I too worry about any anesthesia given to the kids. But my vet has assured me that the sedation that is now used for teeth cleaning is VERY safe and "light." Of course we all worry about aspirating when any creature is sedated. But Aly, although I doubt they put in a breathing tube for this procedure, the way they position the head (to the side) helps to prevent anything from traveling down his airway. And suction is RIGHT THERE ready to suck up any mucus or vomitus. And Reece was kept N.P.O. (nothing by mouth) since last night, so there really isn't much in his stomach to "come up." I'm sure they'll reassure you with this info. when you get there. We are all anxiously awaiting the good news that the precious Reece Man, with his dazzling, white smile, and his loving Mom are "resting comfortably!!:)" We love you guys!! Love, Sandra, Cody and Star

Oh, poor little reece man. I know you'll be just fine. I'll be thinking of you today. Give us an update as soon as you can.
I'm not going into work today. I dont think I would be able to function properly. I already warned them that I probably wouldn't be coming 2 weeks ago when I made the appointment. They are used to my crazy hysterics by now. Besides there's 2 dogs at work that break my heart totally to pieces and I can't bear to see them today feeling like this already.
The nurse told me that there actually will be a tube down his throat. I've had a sore throat since last night. Sympathy pains? I hope I don't pass out when they put him under the anesthisia.. heh just kidding. She said that they give them morphine and that makes them really nauseous so if they're going to throw up at all, they do it right then.
Reece was shaking like a leaf when I left. The expression on his face when he was in the vet tech's arms is frozen in my head. He looked so sad like he was asking me why I was leaving him. I get to pick him up at 5. Only 9 more hours to go............

Oh, Aly, relax. He will be fine, and he will have such beautiful teeth!! You are so sweet to worry so much, but your Reece will be fine, I'm sure of it!!!
I'm taking Butter in to have his teeth cleaned (and hopefully his terrible breath improved  ), and I hadn't bothered to worry!! I was thinking more that we ought to take a picture of him in a calm state for a change! LOL! I'm just trying to lighten the mood a bit....sorry. You know I love my Butter Man with all my heart. I'm going to have the vet clip his claws for me while he is under too, plus give him the overdue shots! I figure if I take him in, first thing in the morning, I'm bound to be able to catch him before it is time for the doctor to do his thing at noon. He is such an escape artist!
Just take a deep breath. Your boy will be fine. But we'll keep both of you in our prayers and thoughts, all day, just to be on the safe side!!! :)
Thanks for whipping me into shape :) I need it bad. I'm such a wuss when it comes to animals having to do anything remotely scary for them, especially alone. I feel so bad he has to stay in a cage. Of course he will be knocked out for most of the time though. I brought in his blanket he sleeps on here and his squeaky chicken toy. The nurses probably though I'm overprotective and insane.... oh wait, I am!! I blame my mother! She is too overprotective of me like I am with my babies.

Aly, I know how you are feeling having gone through it twice in the past month. When Reece comes home he will still have a little side effect from the anesthesia. Just cuddle with him extra tonight and he will forget about it and you will feel much better.
Give him a big hug from me too!
4 more hours!! Lolly and I may go pass some time at the park and pet store but I've come down with a cold from recent work stress so I'm not sure. We might just stay sitting here staring at the clock.

How ya doin? Both of you??????
Ohhh my! Not even morphine can take the little guy's seperation anxiety away! The poor poor baby must have thought he was back in the shelter :( I pulled up at the vet office and ran in to be assaulted by some far away whining, howling, and yapping. They had me wait in a room to talk to a surgical nurse and I could hear the poor little doggie a lot better in the room. It sounded exactly like my Reecey. I figured it was a dog who wasn't under any medication. WRONG. It was Reece!!!! I had to talk to the nurse and pay before I got to see him, then I turned around and the nurse was behind me holding him. Ohhh he looked so pitiful. I held him and he whimpered once and coughed then put his head on my shoulder with his eyes halfway open. He was knocked out on the way home but when we got here, he was able to walk around a little bit. He's a little shakey and you can tell he's slightly uncomfortable but he's doing fine. I made the biggest, softest, nicest bed for him (which Shiloh and Lolly keep trying to steal).
It only cost $141 because they decided not to give the antibiotic shot and something else. The price wasn't bad compared to some other places around here. I was about to leave then remembered I had to make an appointment for his annual vaccinations and they told me they could take care of it right then. I felt REAL bad and asked 1000000 times if he'd be okay because I had no problem coming back later. They said it was fine so the poor boy had to endure a little bit more. But we are all home safe and happy now. Ahhh, I can breathe! :)

Aly, I am so relieved for you!!!!!!!!! My Jing was like that. No matter WHAT they sedated her with, come time to go home, as my car would pull up, whimpering, yelping, crying!!!!! How it breaks our hearts!! But all is well, and that's the best news. He's safe and comfy in his fluffy, new bed (no surprise there!) and Aly can breathe!! And good thinking, getting those nasty shots out of the way while he was there. Another potentially traumatic event checked off!! LOTS of love and kisses and hugs to our bravest boy, the precious Reece Man!!! Love, Sandra, Cody and Star!!

Glad it's over. Poor Reece must have been so stressed out. When I picked Auggie up from her teeth cleaning, they had her in a cage and she was crying nonstop. Like you I just knew she thought she was back in the shelter. After I got in my car, I let her out of the pet carrier and she curled up in my lap, purring but still shaking. It breaks your heart seeing them so scared.
Hugs to Reece. Hope he is feeling much better now.

Lovely little Reece:
I bet you're happy to be home again. Many "welcome back" hugs and kisses to add to the ones your mommy has been giving you non-stop.;)
Well, they told me his mouth and throat would be sore for a few days but something tells me he's back to normal again already. I had to go to the doctor this morning (I have strep throat, ick) and while I was gone he got up on the coffee table and stole the bag of stuff I got from the vet yesterday. He ripped into it and found the little container of tartar control treats they gave us. He opened it and ate them all  He then proceeded to rip up the page that talked about the teeth cleaning, but he left all the other papers about his vaccinations and the bills alone!!
I know Lolly took no part in it. I can't explain it but I just know she doesn't like it when Reece gets into things when they're home alone. She gets embarrassed and ashamed when he does things like that. When I walked in the door, I noticed she had her head hung but I thought it was because a noise had just spooked her. Then I saw Reece's mess and she ran into the bedroom. I asked Reece if he did it and he started running in circles   I called Lolly out and told her she was silly and no one was in trouble. I hope she gets over her fear of getting in trouble soon. I never even yell at them and sometimes she looks at me like I'm going to hit her, but I NEVER have and NEVER will.

LOL, I guess Reece wanted to make sure the teeth business is over and took care of the papers! Smart though to leave the bill there ;) , probably to remind you that you don't forget what he went thru. I'm glad he's back to more or less himself.
Kitty behaves sometimes like Lolly when Casper has done something bad, she's so ashamed  . I've raised my voice sometimes, but not yelling or hitting (only loosers hit). I think Kitty is just trying to show who was to blame.
Ugh, got off the track... ok, glad Reece is okay :) :)

And yes, like you Lolly, as a kid, my brother was AlWAYS embarassing me!! Now you get well soon Aly!!! And make sure you take ALL of your antibiotic! Don't stop just because you start to feel better!! (No, no!!:D) By the way, do you still have your tonsils???
Love and mega kisses and hugs to Lolly, Reece and Shiloh!!
And lots of get well hugs to "Mom!"
Yup, still have my tonsils (ewwwww hate that word!!). PUHLEASE don't make me go have em removed... ew ew ew ew ew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!! ICK ACK! I have major issues with the throat area. The doctor got bit several times today (on accident I swear!) while trying to take a culture. I have major reflexes and will bite anyone trying to go down my throat with a Qtip EWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!
Please please Nurse Sandra, let me keep my tonsils!!!

Poor Baby!!! Got that ultra sensitive "gag" reflex, huh!!?:D Or, as the doctor would say, BITE reflex! How often DO you get strep, Aly dear????:) We'll have to observe you for a while before the final decision is made!;) I don't blame you. It's not a pleasant thing to have done! But if it makes you feel any better, Logan's daughter Helen is "going under the knife" the end of the month for tonsils!!! I hope you feel better, sweet Aly! If I were there, I'd make you a soft, comfy bed, brew you some tea with honey and give you a stuffy to keep you comfy! Sleep tight, Angel Aly! And you know, kisses to them all!
Mental Note: Don't tell Sandra when I have a sore throat :D :D

Boy do I miss out when I can't visit Pet Talk during the work day, and I am too busy after work to do much, if any posting  .
Aly, I sure hope your strep clears up. I had it SOOOOO bad as a little girl but, thank goodness the antibiotics finally worked and it cleared up and I got to keep my tonsils.
Sandra, you're so sweet to care about your fellow Pet Talkers like you do :) You are very, very sweet :)
Logan...tell Helen that she'll be in my thoughts and prayers. She is more brave then I :) She'll be fine.
Candy, I tell you, I am the worlds biggest wimp ever when it comes to pain. I am phobic of shots in general, and it does not matter how small they are, or where they are inserted in my body....I am PHOBIC! I can't even watch needles being inserted in humans on TV, or when I visit my family in the hospital I have to ask them to cover the IV with a sheet or blanket. I have actually been thinking about talking to a psychiatrist because my fear of needles is SO bad, but at this point, I have not made any plans to treat that horrendous fear of mine. Anyway, there is a point to this, and it's not just to share my extreme fear issues :) About 1 and 1/2 years ago I went to the dentist because a tiny corner of a tooth began to poke out of my gum. I was so scared, I had only heard horrible stories about people getting their wisdom teeth removed so I was beyond terrified to even get the consult. The consult only worsened my fears because, after x-raying my mouth, they found that all 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted and were growing sideways, instead of down. They had to be taken out under IV sedation and they had to be taken out by an oral surgeon.
Anyway, after nearly a month of terror, I finally decided that either I had it done, or I have to possibly deal with all of the teeth that those wisdom teeth destroyed. They had to come out and I had to have IV sedation. The oral surgeon's office was great, and they gave me enough Valeum and laughing gas before they inserted the IV to prevent me from having a heart attack
Long story long (I tried to make it short, honest :) ) I had all 4 wisdom teeth cut out and it was SO much easier then I ever thought it would be. I hear horror stories but, honestly, coming from the worlds biggest wimp, it was not bad AT ALL, and all of mine were pretty badly impacted so it should have been alot worse then normal wisdom tooth removal, but it was not bad. The worst part was the month of terror, knowing that I would have a needle stuck in my arm to sedate me, and the pain killers they had me on gave me terrible stomache cramping so I had to switch to extra strength tylonel which wasn't very strong.
Hehehehe :) Now everyone knows my embarressing little secret of needle fear :)
Aly it certainly does appear that Reece is just fine! :D :D Poor little Lolly! Good thing that you know who the Nawtee Dog was or her actions might have led you to believe she was the guilty one. She sounds like such a sweetheart and Reece of course is just a character! Haven't heard a good NAWTEE DOG TALE out of anyone lately and this sure put a smile on my face! :)
I hope the antibiotic has started to help making you feel a little better. I don't know about Texas, but around here absolutely everyone is sick (common colds, upper respiratory infections, croup, etc., etc.,) It has been a goofy winter weather-wise so maybe that's it. Tomorrow it is supposed to hit 74 degrees around here (unheard of in early March! ) and by the end of the weekend it will be in the 40's again. Keep takin' that medicine and get lots of sleep. :)

Sara - Reece definately keeps a smile on my face. He's a laugh a minute even when he's being NAWTEE!
Candy - Yes, I love Sandra!!! She's my savior. I'd be sending her frantic messages about 10 times a day probably if I didn't think I'd drive her crazy. She always makes me feel much better :D
Leslie - I used to have the same fear as you but now I give myself 3 shots a day and I'm absolutely fine with it. Of course when I get a blood test I can't look. If I catch a glimpse of it, I almost faint.
