View Full Version : Katie Has a BooBoo. What is it?

I just saw this spot under Katie's nose and right above her lip. What do you think it could be from. I was wondering if she got bit or stung by something or maybe its from horsing around with Tori. Could it be an infected whisker? I just discovered it about a half hour ago. I'm not for sure how long it has been there. It doesn't seem to bother her. I have touched it and it is dry and smooth. What could it be? It drives me crazy not knowing what happened to her. I hope it heals up ok. I took a few pics but they aren't the best quality. My batteries were just about dead. Should I put anything on it? She will probably just lick it off if I do.

I looked at the pictures you posted, she had it then, but, not as big...maybe look at other pictures to see if you can see how long it's been there...I hope it's nothing painful or too serious. :( Poor Katie.

Oh no I hope it's nothing serious. Finn's mom is right you can see it in this pic you posted earlier, how long ago was it taken?

An insect bite is definitely a possibility. When Syd and Nebo were stung (we assumed bees) it wasn't a centralized circle like that it was just puffiness all over though.

I don't think putting anything on it would do any good it wouldn't stay on long enough. Benydryl (may help if it's an insect bite) can be given to dogs but I'm not sure of the dosage per pound. Maybe call an emergency vet and just see what they tell you? (If they don't charge for just a call). If it were me I'd just watch it and see if it goes down by morning I don't think she needs to see a vet tonight or anything but maybe tomorrow if it hasn't gone down or has gotten larger.

I thought "insect bite" when I saw it, but I'm no expert. Hope poor Katie isn't too uncomfortable. ((((hugs)))) pretty girl!

You night just want to take her into the vet

kinda looks like an ingrown hair.

When my hubby gets them on his back, they r HUGE & smooth. They r a pain to pop, cause there is no hole at the top.

When my hubby had an ingrown nose hair, his nose was HUGE, the evil hair came out both sides *nearly faints just thinking of it again*.

I hope thats what it is.. cause after a few good poppings, it goes away.

It they were smaller bumps, then I would have said doggy pimples, which r super easy to get rid of. Just wash the face with a cloth twice a day & they go away :)

Amy and Finn's Mom, that picture was taken the night before. I never even noticed it:o . That sure does make me feel like a bad mommy. I thought that it looked a bit better this morning but after a second look it seems to be about the same. I think that it may be a bit tender to the touch also. Katie isn't dramatic about it but she does seem to move her head a bit when I touch it. If it doesn't look any better this evening I'll call and make an appt. for her with the vet. She just got her little postcard in the mail saying it was time for her yearly checkup and shots so she needs to go in for that anyway.

Thanks for caring everyone!

Katie...AND Tori... stop worrying your mommy with silly things like this!

ROBIN, you silly... you're certainly not even close to being a bad mommy! Hopefully it's nothing serious and it's getting better!
{{Hugs to three of my favorite ladies.}}

Let us know if you do find out what it is... Hopefully if she isn't bothering it too much it means it's nothing too bad.

Don't feel like a bad mommy. Looking at your dogs, it's obvious that you are anything but. Things like that can go unnoticed easily. No one else noticed it until after you showed us the pictures today. I only noticed it because I went to specifically look for it. I hope it's something like an ingrown hair, or bug bite...she's still such a pretty girl, RobiLee...I'm sure everything will be fine. - Kari

Oh

when you look at it real close,, you do see any holes or hole? usually when a bug bites you,, you can see where the puntcure hole/s are in the puffed up spot. but it could puffed up so much that you cant see any puncture site/s.

and whatever it is,, all paws and fingers crossed for Katie!

It could be a bug bite. If it doesn't go away within a few days it is probably something else.

Does she eat/drink out of plastic bowls? A lot of dogs get "pimples" from eating out of plastic bowls. If so I'd swtich her over to a metal or ceramic bowl, it may take up to a month or so for it to dissapear.

If it's still there in a few days & she doesn't eat out of plastic then I'd get it checked out. It could be an ingrown hair/whicker, a cyst, a weird wart or a tumor of some sort.

Good luck & keep us updated please.

I hope it's nothing serious. Poor Katie. Duke just had his yearly checkup yesterday. We must do them about the same time. Duke, too, had an ingrown hair bump but it was on his hip covered in hair so I can't say if it looked the same.

Well, one minute I think it is looking better the next minute I think it is looking worse. Is anyone else like that? I just can't determine how bad it really is. All I really know is that it is still there. I'm going to go ahead and call the vet and schedule her yearly exam and have it looked at then. Lets hope it isn't anything serious.

Thanks for all your concern and being there for us.

That looks like an ingrown hair to me. Bella came in from my hubby letting her out one morning last week and jumped up in bed with me I took one look at her and freaked. Poor thing she was scratching her head with her paws because she had pea sized welts all over her head and neck, her eye was swelled almost shut and her muzzle was twice it's size. She looked like a boxer and she's a Greyhound! The vet said it looked like a wasp bite. That all happened within a couple of hours after being outside. If your baby had that bump for a while it's probably an ingrown, although, not quite sure what a spider bite would do. Good thing you're seeing a vet for it. Bella and Zayla send lots of healing paw prayers.:)

Please don't feel that way, you are in NO WAY a bad mommy! I'm sorry if my post came across that way I was just trying to see maybe how long she'd had it. I would have never noticed it either if Finn's mom didn't say anything and that's the only pic you can even see it in I think.

I hope you find out positive news at the vet. Feel better soon Katie!! :)

Well, I don't think it is looking any better. It seems to have maybe spread just a pinch and looks like maybe it did some seeping and got a bit crusty overnight. Can't wait to get her to the vet tomorrow.

She will let me look at it but doesn't want me to touch it now. She seems to be fine and not bothered by it too much. I do think she has been licking it quite a bit though. I keep thinking she seems a bit mopey this morning, but that could all just be in my head  . She is a bit like me and not much of a morning person.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

oh katie! hope it would stop growing bigger! thank goodness it's only tomorrow. it is possibly an ingrown hair lump. (that's what I hope! - not too serious -) because this kind of bump we see at vet many times were to be the cyst/a "beginning" tumor/cancer.. and/or for many other reasons. :( oftenly, the tests would need to be taken too. I don't mean to scare you but I wanted you to be prepare at her monday visit!

let's hope it's not that, I'll pray for you, katie bear to not go through more!!!

Katie seems mopey to me again this morning. She didn't even have to go out first thing this morning. She finally did and came right back in and went to sleep. Of course, Tori did the same...lol..so maybe I'm reading too much into it. Last night they were doing zoomies through the house so I'm sure she is fine. She doesn't want me to touch it at all now. She will let me hold her nose to look but as soon as I put my hand out she flinches. Please keep your fingers crossed that it is nothing serious.

I have been amazed at all the responses that we have gotten and I can't thank you all enough. I'm sure it is just a silly booboo that will heal up and go away but the fact that you all care and keep checking in is so heartwarming and you have no idea how much it means to me.

THANK YOU!!

We are home!

All is well. The doc says its either a bug bite or bee sting. Katie had a shot of cortizone along with her yearly booster shots and she has a few pills to take to help dry up the booboo. Whew, I'm so glad! The doc also says Katie is in perfect health! Thats always good to hear:D

Katie was all happy to go out and even wagging away when we first stepped into the vets office, but once it was time to go into the exam room she wouldn't budge! It took me pulling from the front and the little girl behind the desk pushing from the rear to get her into the exam room...lol. She shakes the whole time but is a good girl and lets the doc do what he needs to do. She just looks up at him with super big eyes...lol. Once we walk back out into the waiting room she is fine and wiggling away at the folks and other pets waiting thier turn. She is a funny girl! Both of my girls are scared to death of that exam room...LOL.

Thanks again for being there for us and checking in to see how my Katie girl is!!

Hugs and Tailwags...Robin and Katie :D

P.S...On the way home we stopped at the pet store so Katie could get herself a treat. When we walked in the girl who works there come walking out from the back and gave a big shout out to my girl...."Katie, I'm so happy to see you!". Katie loves the attention and gives her lots of wiggles and a big WOOOOOO!:D :p

Really *pi$$ed off* Mr. WASP - he came after ME  and came IN

I don't *think* anybody got stung - but it wasn't for lack of trying!

I got brave and dispatched the Varmint with the Dog/Fly Swatter

Oh Phred! Sorry but I was giggling reading your "tale"....lol. The pups really do need to listen and learn though. I haven't had any wasps enter the house lately but just recently Tori was going nuts over a fly and I thought for sure she was either going to break the window or her neck! I hollered at her but of course she wasn't listening:rolleyes: . I had to run over and swat her away. She got the fly though! Thank goodness it wasn't a wasp;)

I'm glad to hear that it was nothing serious. And I guess if she did have to tangle with a buggie she was considerate enough to do it when she had to go to the vet's anyway, without having to make an extra trip. I sure hope she picked out an extra special treat for herself at the store (and a little something for her sister maybe?).
