Richard has very kindly lent me the keys and said it was OK for me to open the bar and suggested a theme.

To honour the space shuttle Discovery how about this for the DOTD:

Space Odyssey

Ingredients:

1 shot Bacardi 151 proof rum or Myer's Rum
1 shot Malibu rum
1 shot Pineapple juice
Orange juice
dash Grenadine
Cherries

Mixing instructions:
Fill glass with ice and add shots of Bacardi and Malibu. Add splash of pineapple juice and top with orange juice. Add grenadine for color and garnish with cherries.

Mario, get away from those cherries....

Anyway, we've got some little umbrellas for the drinks if anyone wants one and I'm going into the back to fix some snackies.

Mario, get away from those cherries....

Like I was saying, snackies coming up. I've got hankering for some onion...

MARIO.....PUT THOSE CHERRIES DOWN!!!

**chases Mario around the bar**

Hmm, well, I'll join you in one of those cocktails, Slick, when you have a minute that is. Shall I get the snacks, or would you prefer me to hold Mario?

gini
08-10-2005, 05:33 PM
Mario, my precious one, did you really HAVE to lick every single cherry before you put the jar down?

MMMM, a rum drink for this week. That always does it for me!
Thanks, Slick, I would love one. And while we are at it, let's toast the shuttle crew for landing safely - WELCOME HOME!

Gosh, that crew must have felt so special - they got to bring home the trash from the space station. And then they did repairs while in space. Repairs and Maintenance - sounds like a bookkeeping category to me.

I think we need to get Possum back in here to play with Mario. He seems so happy when Possum is here - and then he stays out of trouble.

Slick, I can use one of those drinks, too! I just brought Marigold home and I think she's tired and confused and when I released her in the bedroom she went under the bed. I'm
going to leave her alone to relax a little. Maybe a CNT for her?

slick
08-10-2005, 07:46 PM
Sorry, I'm a little "spaced out" at the moment....:D :D

Karen, DOTD DONE! I'll get the snacks in a bit.

Gini, DONE! That was picked out just for you. :D :) Hold the cherries.....ewwwwww

David, CNT for the girls and an SO for you.

I'm sure Richard will log on as soon as he gets home from work.

...i've had an exciting week...my boss is being 'let go' in a corporate cost cutting move, we're getting a 3% bonus, i have a hernia that needs repaired, the pharmacist refused to refill alexs' phenobarb (!) until the vet ripped a hole and on saturday we're having an everything must go yard sale..this has been a mixed week...may i have a double, and no cherries...

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
08-10-2005, 08:51 PM
Whew Joyce! Here's your double and I've already started on another one because it sounds like you're going to need it!

Mario, puhleeze! You're invading my "space"!

Ok, ok, so I'm kinda brain dead and there's a lot of empty "space" between my ears right now, so hopefully a DOTD...or two or three...will remedy that. ;)

Sorry, Mario, I didn't really meant that. Come on over here sweety....:)

joycenalex
08-10-2005, 08:55 PM
i'm having a mixed feeling about getting a bonus and my boss is being let go, isn't that kind of a double?

RICHARD
08-10-2005, 09:03 PM
This strange feeling must be UNIVERSE-al...

LOLOLOL, How is eveyone today?

Joyce....If you liked your boss, you can feel badly....

If not.....Let's play some music????

-------------------------

This is gonna sound totally stupid.....The shuttle made my week.

Growing up near 4 airports turned me into the space cadet I am today...In October there are two MAJOR airshows close by and I am ready!!

And it's nothing except the fact that man can get TONS of metal and plastic to go up in the air and move around...

Quick, I need a triple.....

Just got news from the minutes of our Stata Council meeting that some MORE repiping is going to happen to the outside of our building which means a special assessment of approx. $2,000 each. Ok, Ok, maybe $2,000 is much to you but to me it's HUGE!! Where the **** am I going get that from??? Then, the redecorating committee is proposing a major overhaul of the front lobby which means more special assessments.....sheesh!!!!
sorry, just needed to vent....

Joyce, sit down on the couch. You need one as badly as I do.

Debbie, you've got "stars" in your eyes and Mario looks like he's on another planet. :D :p

Richard, I think I'll dub you "Rocket Man!!":p

Slick, that's awful! So boring to have to spend money on stuff like that! You will have to tell them that you must put away $2000 a month for a luxury hotel experience in California next year and they will just have to split up your share between the other tenants!

What will I get going for breakfast today? Birthday cake, in case Oggy pops in! :D Yum! I'll bake it in my space shuttle shaped tin, of course.

There really is only one song for the juke box this morning.

Sounds like a great drink! I'm happy to celebrate with you. Finally feeling up to sitting at my computer. As a special gift, I've brought Mario his very own huge jar of cherries so he can finally have all the ones he wants. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I am feeling a huge amount better, thanks! Feel like a different person with those staples removed. They were really beginning to get uncomfortable as the skin was getting tight around them. Ok, enough of that. What does everyone want for breakfast? I would love one of those breakfast burritos I used to get in Texas. They were so good. There would be women cooking things fresh at all the Chevron stations. I wonder if they still do that? This was almost ten years ago. I can't believe Florida doesn't do that, too.

Hi all I guess we shouldn't be surprized Richard a space cadet. It does explain Marios newest out fit. (a space suit)
I think I'll just take a ice tea got to run I have a management meeting this morning. see ya all this evening.
Slick doesn't the owner have to take the responsablity for all the maintance of his building?

Good Thursday morning to everyone. Wow, there sure is a lot of racket going on in here so early in the morning. Mario what are you wearing???

A piece of Oggie's cake and a cup of hot coffee sounds good. I will check back in later for another one of the DOTD........boy are those ever good..............

Lots to celebrate here - K'Cee - a clean bill of health, Kelly on the mend, Val feeling better now that she is unstapled.......Sammy going home soon..........it makes me very happy!

'Morning everyone! It's raining!!! Yippeee!!!! We need it soooo bad!!!

I love breakfast burritos!! Don't know how well they'd go with Baileys though.....:p ......but they go perfectly with a coke! ;)

I'll save some of that "out of this world" cake for a mid morning snack. ;)

Slick, in the US, from what I understand, they have to give you the option of making payments on the special assessment instead of requiring it in one lump sum. I know that doesn't make it any easier to swallow, but at least it's a little easier on the pocket book. I hate special assessments.

Corinna, special assessments are for condo and townhome owners because technically they are the owners of the building and are responsible for it's maintenance and upkeep. There is a montly assessment fee which they are supposed to put a certain amount away each month so when major repairs are needed, they can just go into their capital fund for the money, but sooo many associations don't do that, so when major repairs are needed they come up with the lovely "special assessment." Ultimately it's for the owner's good because it's maintaining the building that they own, so it's keeping up their own property and they should get a return on that when they sell, but it's still hard to stomach a "special" assessment when you're paying a "monthly" assessment every sinking month!

Ok, enough of my rant, I think my burrito is almost done....:D

catland
08-11-2005, 10:18 AM
good morning everyone. Thanks for getting the bar up and running Slick. So sorry about the assessment - that's the sort of thing that makes me leary about associations.

I just heard the the launch of the Mars orbiter was delayed, so intstead how 'bout we listen to some Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon? sounds perfect with the DOTD.

Houston, I have a problem ... checking in from "BeanTown" where I've been working all week at the 10th Annual Drug Discovery Technology & Development Conference. No, they don't give out samples :o  Only two more hours to go, so I'll hold off on that drink and really have to make this fast (I am supposed to be working, after all). Met up with Mayor Karen and Paul Tuesday night for a wonderful dinner with lots of laughs and stories. Flying home this evening after having a lovely lobster dinner at the "No Name" restaurant on the Haaahbah (that's what I'm hoping anyway). I'll check in when I get home (assuming evening storms don't delay me too much). Behave yourself Mario, at least until I get back....

Hey Mario - look at this - it is your Mom checking in.............she is asking if you have been behaving!

Just got a call from Bean Town too - my little niece is bored.
You know how it is when you are eleven and summer is hot.......and your friends are all away.

I told her to take the big red pill - the one with the chocolate covering.......and I was sure the boredom would go away.
After a nice long chat - she was off to make me a bracelet for me to wear upon my arrival in Bean Town.

I saw that we won't be rocketing off to Mars right now............

Guess I am ready for a drink - it is 1:30 pm in Boston.................

Yikes - yesterday when I was surfing the internet, I found a job posting for one of the people that I work with. Gee - wouldn't that be a rude awakening, to see your job posted while you are still working there? They didn't even do a blind ad - it lists the company name right there.

I'm keeping this to myself (I'd love to blab, but with the current state of office politics it would be a major mistake on my part to have this come back to haunt me) - besides, the person in question burned out a while back and now only makes other people suffer for his misery so its probably good that they are finally going to let him go. At least I think its him - the position could apply to five other people, but he has been the one to be in trouble the most often.

give me a double.

Julie, that reminds me of a situation that occurred at one of my client's offices.

They were having computer problems at the studio, so they turned on a guys computer as he had already gone home.
What came up on the screen was his complete resume - and all of the people he had sent it to just that very day. The whole staff sat there and saw it. Needless to say his resignation came soon after.

Yes, another of those yummy rum thingamajigs please.

AWWWWW, I can just hear it now "Auntie Gini, how many days will it be til you arrive?? Please, please, can't you come over now??" :)

I remember when my nieces were that small. Every time I visited, they each has something for me. A bracelet, a drawing, or some small trinket that they bought for me. I still have them all and treasure them to this day. Gee, this brings a tear to my eye. :(

Debbie, thanks for your explanation. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Julie, nice to see you in dry pants for a change. (Gee, will you ever live it down??) :)

I'm just going to say a DONE! for everyone else...work is busy this morning. Will check back this afternoon.

Laurie, thanks for checking in Sis and I'll expect an email when you return home and get settled. :)

Woo hooo!! I'm so excited! We're working on Macromedia Flash for school and I just figured out how to make mini animations! We have to make "splash animation" for our homework and now I know how to do it. So tonight, all I have to do is go home and do a good one and clean it up and bit and I'm done with homework for this week! I always love when things finally click and I figure things out. Especially when it's not Sunday night and homework is due in two hours and it still hasn't clicked yet! :D

Also, it's still raining here! It's been raining all day now. A nice soft all day rain that we've needed soooo bad. :D

Julie, good thing you're not here or you might have wet pants again!

I'll take a DOTD, but only a single for now. That way I can actually be productive tonight and get this homework done already.

We haven't had a good rain since the 4th of July!!!! It was 101 here yesterday with a heat index of 106. Enough already!!!

Not in a very cheery mood today. I'll just grab a cherry vanilla coke and sit in the corner and tickle Mario.

I haven't actually seen the thread Slick.:o But I will:)
Yesterday I was a bit crook unfortunately. (You take your life in your own hands when ordering a chicken sandwich someplace new:mad: ) So I kind of spent the evening watching cricket on TV, and running to the loo.:o
Feeling better today though.:) , and I'm having a birthday dinner party tomorrow, which I'm serving;
Trev's stuffed Onions, on a bed of jasmine rice, with white wine sauce.
Mains: Slow cooked Pepper Steak & hokkoan noodles, plus for the chicken only eaters, Honey Pineapple chicken.
Dessert: I was going to do a raspberry sorbet, with chocolate shavings and fresh cream, but one of our friends is bringing strawberry cheesecake, for which I am just a sucker for.:p
So in my bleary state on Sunday I shall let everyone know how it all went.:)

You throw the kind of birthday parties I like.

No dining out, No driving, no recipe? No problem.

It's the kind of birthday where you have to work...but it's what you want.

Good morning everyone! I'm a little late getting a jump-start today, but there is fresh coffee on and some Bailey's on the bar.

Trev, that dinner sounds scrumptious! What time should I be there? ;) :D

Ok everyone, I think I'm going to make brunch for us. How about eggs benedict along with Gini's potato casserole. If Laurie shows up, maybe she can make some crabcakes. For now, enjoy the fresh fruit and bagels with cream cheese.

Sooo.. let me get some cakes prepared and put into the fridge to set up nicely for a bruncheon/luncheon in a few hours. Let's get Gini's potato casserole going too - wowsers is that good stuff!! My day today should be fairly easy although my horrorscope says that I should keep my emotions in check as there will be alot of miscommunication going on. Me? Emotional? Ha! ;)

'Morning everybody! Glad to see you're back, Laurie, do you hate those trade shows as much as Terry does?

My day started out good, then went downhill real fast. It's still raining here, which I love because we need it sooo bad, but of course that makes the roads slick, and I've always hated the way my Tracker stops in an emergency situation....sooo...this morning it didn't.....stop that is. :( I ended up rear ending a Kia Sedona van. Nobody was hurt and my airbag didn't even go off, but "she" comes out of the van all "attitudey" making gestures like WTF and all. He comes out rubbing his shoulder - I'm sure he's going to try to claim whiplash or something  because just kept rubbing it, and it was probably injured in a baseball game last night or something, except this guy weighed well over 250 lbs, so I can't see him playing baseball....and he did tell the cop he was ok and didn't need an ambulance.

So, that was the excitement of my morning. The cop did not give me a ticket so I guess it's just an accident and my insurance premiums will go up, but it's the only thing on my record for years and years and years and years....which is why he probably didn't give me a ticket.

Anyway, a nice biiiig breakfast with an extra shot of Baileys in my coffee would be real nice right now. <insert "I'm screwed" smiley here> ;)

gini
08-12-2005, 10:52 AM
Aww Debbie, come on over here and I will pour you some Bailey's for your coffee............

NOT a good way to start out your day. Thank goodness no one was hurt.

We don't have rain for months here in CA. so when it does - everyone is sliding into each other because the roads are so oil slicked.

Gosh, I hate it when people get a bad attitude in situations like that T & P. The gal that stopped on the onramp that caused the accident I was in (a car stopped dead on an onramp, a van stopped behind it and I hit the van after sliding on some road gravel :( ) I cracked my sternum so the ambulance checked me out. While I was sitting there (having breathing problems) the gal in the front car (That didn't even get hit, I found out) Was claiming my little dinky car at 35mph hit a mini-van with its E-brake and regular brakes on hard enough to push it 5 feet into the back of her car and jared it enough to give her whiplash...

My insurance company told her where to go and how to get there lol plus she got a $4000 ticket too (she was an unlicenced driver in a car that wasn't hers)

Anyway...its that magical friday day again. Another party this weekend for me :D and hopefully some much needed REST!

Somebody hand over one of those crab cakes...well make it two as the kitties will want some.

Sorry to hear about that Debbie - that is a rotton way to start a day. We're expecting our first rain in a while next week and I know the roads will be filled with fender-benders.

Are your tires the ones that came with the car? Back when I had my Tercel, it had lousy factory issued tires. We swapped them out for better quality ones and I could feel the difference the very first time it rained.

re: attitudes. Your running into these people didn't make them rude, they were already that way. They probably don't have a wonderful place like Thursdays to unwind, so they're like that all the time.

Oh Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear that your day started off so bad. Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt and I sure hope those people don't take you to the cleaners.

I'm in the mood for some breakfast. What do ya say I start making the eggs bennie. Laurie, you around? I'll heat up a pan for them crab cakes.

DJF: I remember awhile back your husband was sick. How is he doing now? You have not mentioned it.

Aw, that's the pits about your accident. We haven't had rain here in almost a month, just heat, heat and more heat. We have had TEN TIMES as many 90 deg F days this year as last year.

I'm still at work so I'll just have a Dr Pepper float. (Like a root beer float with Dr Pepper instead...yum!)

Thanks for your concern *hugs* He is doing a lot better but still not up to 100% yet. Even I'm not up to optimal operating specs after this stomach thing. Turns out he got a virus, which didn't in any way help his current issue and while caring for him I ended up with the virus too. I almost ended up in the hospital myself :(
All in all though, he has been eating better and we've made some diatary changes that are improving his digestion significantly. He is in a lot less pain now, and is sleeping better now that the weather has cooled down (not sleeping right will agrivate his stomach too for some reason). He's been stuck to me like glue though lol. When I first met him, he told me that he wasn't a cudly person and he really wasn't too fond of the whole huggy cuddle thing until reciently. Now, since he got so sick (this is only the second time I've seen his stomach pain make him cry and this time was really the more sirious of the two) he's been really attached to me. I guess this was a major wake up call for him.. I know it sure as h**l was for me!!
Sigh, now Im getting all puddle eyed. I do miss him while I'm at work. With the commute, Im gone from home about 10-12 hours a day, depending on if I have to run errands after work. I worry a lot, especially if he seems like he was feeling bad before I leave for work(he usually wakes up early with me and we chat and cuddle before I have to leave). I'd be a total mess if I ever had to travel. I haven't spent a night away from him since we got married. It's really amazing how much I love John, and how much he loves me (He put up with A LOT of my mental issues and helped me get the treatment I needed for them)
Are we bad lol?
Yeesh, and here I go writing a friggen novel :p I'll take another DOTD and some CNTs and crabcakes for the kitty butts. Put something nice and mellow in a to-go cup for John...he'll appriciate it ;)

I hate to "wine" but you have not ordered a drink yet today.:D

DJF
Good to hear. I was assuming things were more or less back to normal since you have been mentioning going to parties. Darn those nasty viruses. Maybe we can gather them all up and send them on the next shuttle!

DOTD and crab cakes - DONE!
CNT - DONE!
For John how about a cup of blueberry tea with a shot of Baileys? Try it, you'll like it. DONE!

I'm just going to some cleanup duty and get back to work.

Blueberry tea with Baileys? Sounds....eerrr....interesting....but I'll try just about anything once. ;) :D

For now though, I'll just have a DOTD. Work's been busy with another insurance guy in - and new software people in....ugh...it's going to be a busy next few weeks around here...

But, it's now Friday evening, about time to head home and then I don't have to be back here until Monday - wooo hooo!

I'll leave you with a picture of the damage to my car and her car - which reminds me, Julie, you reminded me that I didn't give these people the attitudes, that they are just that way, and I could tell that from the second she got out of the car. My very first thought "Oh great, I'm screwed." I wouldn't doubt it if they have already contacted a lawyer, they're just that type. And when you see this pic and see the damage to her car, you'll see that she has every right to contact a lawyer.

Oh gimme a friggen break...any judge would laugh a case like that right out of court. Pfft, there is hardly any damage to her car!
I don't even think a shop would even bother fixing that around here lol.

I'm going to have to try that blueberry thing, slick. Blueberrys and Baileys are two of Johns favorite things.

John is happy to be going to parties again. The parties here pretty much are just gatherings of us "youngins" BSing about our wierdo lives with techno background noise lol. It gives all of us with jobs some time to chill and catch up on the events of our generation. We're a close knit group really lol.

Speaking of parties...I have a exiting announcement!! My demo album is going to be finished next week and I'm submitting it to several production companies who *hopefully* will like my mixing style and have me play a couple of shows this winter. I'm exited because if I get popular with the smaller local shows, I could end up being booked for big shows in Seattle, San Fransico and even Chicago!!

DJ Fyrewolf, soon to be annoying parents on a national level lol. :D

T&P,

Hi all. Checking in here. I wouldn't be surprised about anything Richard does :p
Corinna Thanks so much for the post cards. It was very nice of you to do that. I love the Glacier one with the flowers. I've got it on my computer desk.
Hope everyone is doing well this weekend. I've been living in my PJs so how about a pajama party? We can make popcorn and smores and watch movies.

We could pretend it was cold and get the fireplace going and make hot chocolate. It's cold somewhere right now, anyway. Wish I was there. It's so hot here, you can't even bear to get outside. I've got lots stuff for the smores. Does Mario like marshmallows? They can get messy. We don't want him having sticky fur. I'll bet he's not crazy about baths.

I don't know if Mario would eat them, but I think he has a habit of throwing them! Right now in Pittsburgh, it's a steamy 76 degrees. We could pretend we're in Austrailia where they're having winter!

on sunday nights i listen to BLUECOLLAR from 6-9pm, eastern (on WCBE.ORG, check it out if you can) with Dr Steve, and frequently the talk turns to the j-o-b. one caller mentioned that the fact that his boss is breathing annoys him. i've stll got really mixed feelings about this management change. it's done, the hospital upper management is set for it, and we've been told we're gonna have a new boss by sept 1. my boss has been with some of my coworkers for 20 years, so there is a long work history and friendship there. i wasn't my bosses' friend, so for me this isn't as large a trauma, my modest concern is how a new boss will change the fairly simple set-up we've established in an office of 15 staff, average age 45, with about 300 years experience in xrays and patient care. there will never again be a non-corporate independant healthcare office, and it has been hard for people to see a vocation in health care turned into the health care industry.
and oh, here's to repossesion of my soul! out to the garden i go, and those spoils are paying for 4 elijah blue ornamental grasses and one butterfly bush;)

JNA,

Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst.

Hopefully it won't be on of those 20 somethings with the world as their oyster and an allergy towards seafood.

I'm gonna pop some corn and light the fire....

Who had a DVD to watch???
