I hope this jerk pays for how he's mistreated these poor things. I feel bad for the owner, too. She was pretty far away and couldn't check on them, I guess.

A 32-year-old Bartow man was arrested yesterday evening (Tuesday, July 26, 2005) on animal
cruelty charges for severe neglect of five horses.
Eddie Granger, DOB 2/24/73, of 6041 Highway 640 in Bartow, was arrested yesterday and
charged with one (1) count Felony Animal Cruelty - Causing Cruel Death, Pain and Suffering,
and four (4) counts of Animal Cruelty - Abandoning and Confining without Food, Water or
Exercise. He was booked into the Polk County Jail.
The charges stem from the severe neglect of five horses who had been under Granger’s care
since February 2005. Granger - who was given responsibility for the care of the horses by
owner Kathleen Michels of Punta Gorda - failed to regularly water, feed and shelter the
animals.
The horses were seized earlier this week and taken to the Polk Sheriff’s Office farm for medical
care and treatment. Upon examination at the PCSO farm, a veterinarian determined that one of
the horses - a 10-year-old Arabian stud horse - be euthanized due to extreme malnourishment
(approximately 500 pounds underweight). The additional four neglected horses are currently
being treated at the PCSO farm in an attempt to return them to good health.

Val, I can't see the pics...(computer AGAIN...) but I should probably be glad that I can't..although I have never been one of those people to stick their heads in the sand...Seeing it makes me MORE motivated...
I was just thinking earlier tonight....you know how they post the names of all the people in town that get arrested/arraigned for things like burglary/robbery/drunk driving etc. in the paper (At least my local paper does: they post all the arrests for the week) But they don't post all the arrest/investigations animal control has made over the previous week...and they SHOULD!! Then the neighbors will know what to look for, people will be on the alert....if you want to abuse an animal in the future...you won't be doing it in your own backyard....(But we know that they will because they are too lazy to do anything else....!) AT least if will show the neioghbors that someone is looking....and cares....we need to get these crimes reported and announced!!

I hope carma gets him, because unfortunately, until the penalites against harming/killing animals is equivelant to that of a human, then people get off with nothing but a slap on the wrist.

I wished I didn't look at that poor horse. It's terrible. At least he's not suffering anymore.
