View Full Version : K'Cee takes a bite (*crunch*) out of the Whitecoats!

:eek: :rolleyes: :eek:
Today was Miss Kiss's pre-op appointment for her dental cleaning and biopsy on her nose-dot. I had mom take her as (1) I had to work and (2) Kissie holds GRUDGES! (You think I want my princess mad at me?! ;) )
The appointment was at 8am...
Dr. N arrives and shaves a paw. Next he pulls out his vampire tools (tourniquet, syringe). He goes to wrap Kissie's leg and *crunch* :eek: "I don't think so Mister!" :eek:
She didn't break the skin (she really is a gentle cat) - she just let him know that she was HIGHLY upset.
We'll earn that "wild kat" sticker yet... ;) :rolleyes:
~~~~~~Edited to Add~~~~~~~
Her dental/biopsy date is August 8 at 8.45am.
Her dental won't take long at all - she really isn't due for one yet - but while she's knocked out for one, might as well spare the expense and stress of having it done later this year.
Dr. N said he was going to remove the whole nose-dot and send it away for testing. It HAS to be pigment, it just HAS to be! :( *worried*
K'Cee I am not sure whether it is a good idea to bite the vet because you may not believe it -he's one of the good guys;)
I am sure your nose spot will be nothing and keep my fingers crossed for you.
A few years back when Boots, da Kat, was havin his plummin problems
and had become a Frequent Flyer :( to TWO White Coat Labs -
I often feared he seemed ready to do a *crunch* :eek: on the MANY
handpawz that *poked*, *proded*, *stuck*, and otherwise *molested*
his poor, sore bod ... but he seemed to *know* the hands were
trying to *help* ...
But some of the *LOOKS* he delivered ... :eek:!
Prayers Offered that Kissie's Nose Dot is just a misplaced
paint splotch that we'll all miss once it's gone.
*Four* stickers, Miss Edwina?! :eek: Oh my! That really gives your godkitten something to strive towards. lol (Should I hide this post from K'Cee? ;) )
You know, it's funny...
Last Dec/Jan during K'Cee's annual exam, she hissed at one of the vet techs and they muttered something about "those grey and whites... they're ALL attitude!" He then proceeded to tell me that they had 4 other greys/whites in that day and 3 of the 4 had "wild kat" stickers.
Ha ha...does this apply to black and whites too? Scooter is our sticker kitty. We're actually bad parents because we don't take him to the vet too often because it's just way too traumatic, for everyone involved! :eek:
a recovery cage...
Prayers that all went well and she has *BRITE* Toofers and
Let's all cross Paws & Klaws that the Lab report on that Nose Dot
comes back as "just a pigment dot"!
Hope you feel better real soon, K'Cee!!
I'm so nervous I can't stand it! My tummy's doing flip-flops. ugh!
I called (15 min early) to see if I could pick her up. My favorite receptionist told me she didn't know anything yet; Dr. N was in the back looking over everyone now and determining who does/does not get to go home.
She's suppose to call me as soon as she knows something.
At least you know she made it through surgery ok.
While you wait, you can amuse yourself by trying to figure out how they can get a bandaid to stick on her nose. She'll have it off in a flash.
I know I'm jumping the gun but I had to call and check on my girl. A different person answered the phone and they transferred me to "the back." I was informed that, my "little angel is still sleeeeeeping, so she'll have to stay." (little angel?? they've never called her that before!)
I can pick her up mid-morning...
MMMM, just hoping that (little angel?)is alright. I wouldn't want her to have a "sleepover" either!
I called at 8.30 (only 30 minutes before I was suppose to) and my fav. receptionist told me, "I'll bet she's ready - let me put you through to the back." Was met with a new, gruffy voice and was told she could NOT go home (minor :eek: on my behalf) until Dr. N talked to me. I asked if she was awake, "Oh yeah - she's awake. Dr. N should call you this morning."
9am comes, goes.
10am comes, goes.
11am my boss says, "Get your stuff together and go check on her." That's all it took - I was OUT the door.
Walked into the office and there sits Miss New Gruffy Voice (NGV) who didn't even bid me a "hello, be right with you." I walk up to the front desk (am the only one in the lobby) and am completely ignored (to her credit, I could see she was working on someone's file). In walks a lady with a lab puppy saying, "Oh - I forgot to make her appointment for her spay" - I step aside and oogle the puppy. While oogling I heard the owner ask, "So you think you're gonna cut it? It's hard being new isn't it?" Miss NGV doesn't do anything but nod her head "yes" and walk out of the room. One of the other receptionists comes back in after that and takes over.
Anywho, "S" looks shocked/confused that I hadn't been in to pick K'Cee up yet - said she was DEFINITELY ready to go home. While I was paying the bill, one of the kennel workers brought a groggy and shaking (:( ) Miss Kiss to me.... K'Cee immediately latches on to me. (*tears* I LOVE THIS CAT!!)
He said the bump on her nose didn't take long to remove and it wasn't deep at all. He took his scapel (sp?) and cut it out then used a laser to clean up the edges incase it was a melanoma. He said he should have the hystology (right word? sp?) report by the end of the week and he'd email it to me.
When we got home, I set K'Cee down and she immediately fell over (and so did my heart)! :eek: She can't stand or sit up very well yet. :( I drug out Sophie's old cage (crate for GR-sized dogs) and set her up a bed in it.
They told me she wouldn't eat the entire time she was there - this doesn't surprise me. And, the fact that the first thing she did was make her (wobbly) way to the litterbox tells me she didn't use their "facilities" either.
We offered her some water and about a tablespoon of wetfood that Aunt Kelly sent her; she gulped it right down. (We had to help hold her up to eat.)
I called the vet's back and asked about the wobbly-ness... they said the anesthesia should wear off by tonight. If not, call them at opening tomorrow.
I can already tell a difference in her demeanor - she knows she's home and I think that comfort and security is about the best healing "power" there is.
After she rests a bit, I'll try to get pictures of her owie.
Thanks for checkin' on us - it's back to work for me! (I have a feeling these next few hours are going to DRAG by. ugh!)
Good Lord!!! Sounds like they gave her enough anestesia to knock out an elephant!!! Didn't they do the surgery yesterday? :(
I'm sure glad she is home now. I bet she'll be feeling lots better by the time you get home. Home and family is the best medicine there is.
Oh, you may want to give her softer foods for a day or two. My teeth always ache after they've been cleaned and hers might too.
Try not to worry! (yea, right!!! I know I know). At least the dot wasn't very deep and SHE'S HOME!!!:)
What did ya'll pray for? The Kissiemonster has turned into a P-U-R-R-B-O-X!! ( :D - and thanks! lol) I've only heard her purr 3 times before - she only does it when she's SUPER happy.
I know, I know... it's just the drugs right? ;)
I agree it does seem like they gave her too much anesthesia but then again, it'd been less than 24hrs since the surgery. So ??
We're walking better - still a bit stumbly but not falling down like before. She'll spend tonight in the crate though as I don't want to risk her jumping on/off my bed, during the night.
I fed her when I came home from work - we finished off the opened tin that Aunt Kelly gave us. I just offered her another tin (different flavor) and she turned it down. (That's normal - she's a PICKY eater.)
Except for immediately after her homecoming, she hasn't used the box. I think she's a bit dehydrated, so I've been mixing water in with the wet food.
I tried to get some "owie" pictures but I'm not sure they'll turn out - will upload them in just a bit. That's our update for right now. :)
Good evening K'Cee,
Got your histopathology report back this morning and it is a good report.
The nasal lesion was diagnosed as a lentigo.
Lentigo is a benign proliferation of melanocytes that is generally limited to the top layer of the skin (epidermis) resulting in a raised plaque-like lesion. The prognosis is favorable.
The primary concern of these types of lesions is to differentiate them from malignant melanomas by way of biopsy as we did here. Again, there were no signs of malignancy found so we have a very good prognosis.
Dr. N
We celebrated with more purrs ( :D ), happy feet (yet another new trait), and a nap (can't kick this headache - yuck).
Yay! Thank you guys for all the prayers!
K'Cee is still sleeping a little more than usual and still a little "off" sometimes when she jumps. While she was knocked out, I had them give her ears a good cleaning -now she keeps digging at them- so the balance issue could be due to that.
Get this:
Yesterday we were taking a nap and SHE WOKE ME UP TO CUDDLE! :eek: Who is this and what have they done with my "real" cat?! lol (My "real" cat would only sleep by my feet.)
Thanks for asking about us! :)
Thanks for asking about us! :) Glad you are both feeling better.
You are probably right about the ear and the balance stuff. I had my ears cleaned out at the doctor's office once and bout fainted. I'm never light headed but that sure did it.
Take advantage of her cuddle mood and sneak her a head kiss from me, ok?
(((HUGS))) to you both.:D
Zip, maybe after that horrendous experience at the vets, Mz Kissie finally realized how lucky she is to have a Meowmie like you. Glad to hear all is well and praying that this change is permanent.:)
{{{hugs}}} to you lil sis
I'm going to call the whitecoats tomorrow...
Miss K'Cee just isn't acting right to me. I know that she'd lost a little bit of weight during her stay but expected her to be eating normal, etc by now.
When she went in for her pre-op, she weighed a little over 11 pounds. She was at 9lbs today.
She's still "off balance" when she jumps/shakes, but I attribute that to the ears (had them cleaned while she was knocked out).
The other thing is that she's pretty lethargic. As much as I don't like to admit it, she is getting older (3 the end of this month) but she's not acting like she was before the procedure. Now, she's sleeping longer and heavier (MUCH heavier).
I HOPE I don't have to haul her back in but sounds like a check-up might be in order. :(
Uh oh, that's quite a bit of weight to lose in a short amount of time. :( It's odd she'd loose weight when she's not as active too, though it's probably more because of the decreased appetite. I think a check-up is a good idea, hope everything is ok with her!
Sure hope Miz Kissie is just takin her time "bouncing back"!
As for the weight "loss" -
WHOSE Scales are the readings from???
I know Doc Mike *swears* by the accuracy of his fancy
"Vet Model" combo Elevator Table & Scale ...
but MY kids seem to gain/loose a LOTTA weight between visits
according to HIS scale! :rolleyes:
I've watched the dial while the FurKids have been "on the table" for an exam ...
and the indicated weight fluctuates 2 - 3 pounds! :eek:
K'Cee seeeming "slower" *IS* a concern ...
but maybe she's looked at the Big Picture after spending time
away from HOME and decided that showing "appreciation to Mom"
is the way to go. ;)
Leonardo says Miss K'Cee is still a spring chickie!
He turns 15 at the end of this month!
Her teeth may be sensitive which would account for the not wanting to eat. I can hardly eat for days after I have mine cleaned.
The off balance stuff, I would for sure call about. She should be perking up by now, I would think. Just for your own peace of mind (and ours too) a chat with the vet may be in order.
Prayers for you both and lots and lots of((((HUGS)))).
An update:
She started acting better on Monday (eating more, more alert, etc) so I put off calling the vet. However, she's still a bit off-balance so I called today.
Long story short, he feels I should watch her until Monday. If there's no improvement, I'm to haul her back in (oh, she'll just love that :rolleyes: ) and, obviously, if she gets worse I'm to call them immediately.
He seems to think that she might have a bit of an ear ache from the cleaning. He said that he's read (but never had) instances of cats reacting weirdly to the medicine they use to "knock 'em out," but the drug/brand he uses has the lowest side-effects, so he's not too concerned with that at this point.
Right now it's just "wait and see."
The scab on her nose fell off this morning. She's eating better -not like she was but definetly better- and she attacked her brother today, so she's starting to return to "normal." (For the most part, the purrs are gone too - but we're hanging onto the cuddly trait! :) )
