Help!!! about 8 months ago we took in a cat called Beanie from a friend who was worried that he just hid behind his bed all day and night. After only 1 day of having him he somehow got out and ran off (we thought). Despite this we put food out every night whilist calling his name. We saw what we thought was Beanie wolfing the food down on quite a few occasions. But every time you went to open the door to invite him in he shot off like a bolt of lightning. In the mean time we still desperately wanted pet cats as our last two had died over a year ago. So we got two young cats from the recue center seeing as tho Beanie was running wild - by his own choice. Anyway 8 months later and I managed to catch Beanie! we took him to the vets and he had 3 teeth out - we thought this might have been why he always hid previously. We thought this because we once had a very soliatry cat that changed overnight once her teeth were fixed.
The real problem is our two new cats ( Kolo & Abi) aren't really taking to him very well. Kolo has charged at him a few times and hurt me in the process. We have Beanie shut in my room with everything he needs and we are trying to do supervised visits with our two other cats so that they can get used to each other's scent. But we don't seem to be making any progress. Abi is better about it that Kolo - she has touched noses with Beanie and sniffed his paw. Kolo on the other hand acts very aggressively towards poor Beanie.
We dont want to find a new home for Beanie as he might run off from his new home like he did with us - and we cant be sure his new owners would put food out for him every night. Also we don't think having a fourth home would be kind for such a timid cat (this is his third home). We just don't know how to get Kolo and Abi to accept him to the point where they can just ignore him instead of swiping at him? Also we don't know how to stop Beanie from sneaking off and hiding all the time. This is a stressful situation and I don't think either way it can go on for much longer! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
