we got a 11 week old female kitten yesterday and i understand that it is probably lonely being without its litter and mother, the woman that i got her from handled her all the time, but ever since i got her home she hides a lot, and wont stop "meowing" she doesn't care about any of the toys i got her or anything, i was thinking of getting another one so she would have a playmate while husband and i are at work, is that safe being that she is so young? thanks!

that would be a good idea is their anyway you might be able to get one of her litter mates so they would be used to eachother

A second kitten would be a GRAND idea.
But in the mean time, she is probably overwhelmed by a new home and lonely for her siblings. If she is not already confined to one room, please do so. Many reasons for this. Mostly so she is close to everything. Nothing like a very large house (and to a small kitten, 4 rooms could seem very large) to get lost in. :( And also so you know where she is and you can sit with her. You needn't pull her out of a hiding spot right away. pet her right where she is, if you can. Talk to her, do quiet things in the room with her. Stay low, on the floor, you will seem less intimidating.
Bribe her. Treats, interactive toys (strings, fishing rod toys, etc), canned cat food.
And give her time. She'll be OK
Now back to getting that 2nd kitten..... ;) :D

Welcome to Pet Talk, and I strongly agree with getting a second kitten. :) How old is she? I'd be willing to bet that if you went (ASAP) and got her one of her littermates, the crying and hiding would stop....not to mention it's always best to adopt two at once. ;)

I would strongley suggest that you get another one:) I have 3 cats and they keep each other VERY entertained while we are at work all day. They are very happy to see us come home though and then they are ready for some human attention. Cats are great and very entertaining!!!:D
