:(
First thing this morning, I arrive at work to find a cat laying dead in the middle of our intersection. :( I went inside and cried.
I then came back out with a towel and a bag to get the body off the street before it became nothing more than a splattering of blood.
It was a beautiful solid blue color, not unlike our own PT Nakita. And the cat was wearing a collar! (but no ID). This was someone's pet who will not be returning home tonight. :(
PLEASE keep your cats safely indoors unless properly leashed or supervised! There are dangers out there beyond your control. One day your free roaming cat will not return. :(

Oh, Jen, thank you for caring enough to help the poor thing. Bless you. Grey kitty will be among the hordes who greet you someday at the Rainbow Bridge, of this I am sure.

Bless you for caring! Most people would have just left it lying there :(
Too bad there was no ID. I would try to find the owner. Knowing is better than not knowing.
*hugs* I can tell this really upsets you. I cry if I see a wild animal as a road casualty, I'm even worse if I see someones pet.

That is so upsetting! I know sometimes animals can sneak out, but people should know better than to allow their cats/dogs etc., out without supervision.

That is one of the worst things you can see. I hate seeing those poor little bodies in the street or beside the road. I cry for all of them.

I am soooo sorry Jen. I can't imagine how I would feel. If I think for a second that I see a dead animal I have to look away and get hubby to make sure I was wrong. I can't bare to see it. It rips my heart out.
R.I.P. sweet kitty. Know that tears were shed over you loss as you were loved and you will be missed.

THE SAD THING,AS YOU SAID JEN,IS THAT SOME CAT GUARDIAN,IS WAITING,FOR THIER BELOVED CAT,TO BE WAITING,OUTSIDE THE DOOR.
AND THIS MAY HAVE BEEN,A CAT ,LIKE JJJ3,WHO RAN THROUGH A DOOR,THAT WAS LEFT OPEN ACCIDENTALLY,FOR A BRIEF SECOND.THEN THIS BEAUTIFUL CAT,RAN OUT,AND SOMEONE,IN TOO BIG,OF A DAMN HURRY,DIDNT LET HIM ,GO HOME.
AND SADLY,YOU HAVE NO WAY,OF LETTING THEM KNOW,THAT THIER LITTLE FRIEND,IS NEVER COMING HOME AGAIN.
RIP,LITTLE BLUE CAT,SEE YOU AT RIBFEST,TOMORROW,WITH THE PET TALKER ANGELS.
BLESS YOU,AS ALWAYS,FOR CARING,JEN.

Jen,
Thank you for giving him dignity.
I always try, if I can, at least to move them to a peaceful spot.
Godspeed to the Bridge, Gray kitty.

Jen,
This is a poem I wrote after going through the same thing as you are posting about back iin 2001
In The Middle Of The Road
I was driving home late tonight
I saw two shiny blue sparkles
in the middle of the road.
As I passed by the tiny blue lights
I saw where they came from
this poor black cat laying dead
in the middle of the road.
In a split second I turned to go back
and help the poor black catlaying dead
in the middle of the road.
I pulled in the side street
and shined my lights in the road.
I went up to the poor black cat laying dead
in the middle of the road.
I prayed for a miracle to ahppen
and God would make the cat breath
but no miracle happened
in the middle of the road.
So I pulled the poor black cat
onto the grass where it was safe
from getting smashed over and over
in the middle of the road.
It made me so angry
that this poor black cat ahd to die
I cursed the cruel driver
who hit the black cat
and left it dead
in the middle of the road.
I drove home heart broken
as I cried for the poor black cat
Why was the poor black cat
in the middle of the road?
I will never understawnd
how poeple think it is ok
to let their animals out free to get killed
in the middle of the road.
I hope the owner finds their poor cat
on the grass where it lays
I hope they learned their lesson
of letting cats out free to get killed
in the middle of the road.
I love each and everyone of my babies
I never let them out
They might die of some illness
that only god can prevent
But they won't die a painful and senseless death!
The poor black cat deserved so much more
than being hit by a car
and laying dead
in the middle of the road!
This is a very rough first draft of what happend to me tonight and how upset I am about it! I just had to write it down and post it before I exploded!

I hate seeing that, too. One time I saw a cat that wasn't dead yet. It was in the middle of the road and no one had even stopped to help it. I carried it to the grass and stood there as it died. I cried like a baby as the cars passed. We also had one hit on our street one night and several of us were trying to help her but we knew she was dying. It was so sad. She reached up with her paw and meowed right before she passed. I never forget things like that. Such special creatures deserve to be treated better.

Poor baby! It was very kind of you to move it's body. I too hate seeing animals on the road getting smashed. About two months ago I looked outside and saw the body of an orange stray that had been hanging around lying still on our lawn. At least someone moved him off the road. My husband removed him.
I don't understand how people can drive over any animal, but they sure do.... I'm sure his owners would appreciate your taking the time to move him. It's too bad they'll never see him again.
