I have never had a kitten before and I'm planning on getting one in early November!! I have read almost every website about cats and kittens on the web. Once I get one I will definatly send pics!!Is there anything I should know before adopting one? Or anything I can do for him/her this early? I'm soo excited!!:D

There may not be many kittens left in early November, but good luck and welcome to Pet Talk!

Congrats!!
Why November? Is the kitten not born yet, and will it be available in November? Why not adopt from a shelter?
Read as much about cats as you can. Reading and joining Pet Talk will help you a lot!! Welcome to PetTalk anyway!!!!

Welcome to PT!!!:D I also believe in adopting from shelters or rescue groups. Can you tell us more about your soon to be kitten?
You can start getting kitten supplies:
1)litter box
2)clay litter- better for kittens because kittens tend to eat litter
3)scratching post
4)cat bed or you can use a small box with a towel in it
5)cat toys
6)kitten food
7)dishes- I like to use stainless steel because they're easier to clean and can help keep cats from getting acne
You may want to adopt 2 kittens so that they'll have a companion and a playmate.:)

Thanks for the help!:D I'm getting a kitty in November because I am moving near that time and I don't want the kitty to go through the stress of a move when I just get him. I do plan on adopting one from a shelter. Should I get a boy or a girl? I have heard they are equally affectionate but do you guys have any opinions?

Let your new kitty pick you. You will know the right kitty I promise. It doesn't matter if it's a boy or a girl the right kitty will pick you and you will know that is the kitty that is meant to come home with you and enjoy his/her furrever home. :)

Are you looking for a kitten or an adult? I am a foster mom for a rescue, and one of the things that people always want is a kitten... only to find it grows up REAL fast and its personality doesn't fit yours. I mean, say you want a quiet lap kitty, well almost all kittens are lap kitties because they thrive on attention. But as he/she ages they may start to become more and more independant until he/she never sits for pets. I have one who was a famous lap kitty who NEVER lets me pet him. His sister used to run from me and hiss all the time... and SHE'S my lap kitty. Surprised me! :D
With an adult cat, you can say "I'm looking for a cat that is sweet and loving, but independant because I work odd hours" or "I am a homebody and I want a cat thats going to be my shadow, one who's going to always be there looking for affection" and a rescue will be able to match a cat with those requests.
Also consider the following:
~How often are you willing to deal with cat litter? Some cats are fussier than others. I have one who demands I scoop several times a day, and another who would use a dirty box that wasn't scooped in a week. A rescue organizaton would know what their cats preferences are, and would match you up
~Consider how often you're home. A less "needy" or "clingy" cat is better for the person always on the go.
~Consider how much time you want to spent grooming. Some cats need lot more grooming than others. Long haired cats take a lot more care because they mat easily, and their tail tend to get... um... messy (if you know what I mean) ;)
Ultimately, the cat will pick you, but if you know what you're looking for temperment-wise before you go, it'll be that much easier!

I'm not completely sure I'm getting a kitten yet. I have no preferances. My mom called me the other day and she thought I should get a poly (pixiebob) because they are the most dog-like(I grew up with dogs) but I told her no because I wanted to get one from a shelter.;) thanks again for all the tips!!:D

I agree with this 100 %!! When we went to the shelter to choose a cat, there was 1 cat that kept meowing to us everytime we turned around to admire the other cats. We finally decided that we would take her! That is how Maya picked us out!!! Smart cat hey!
Oh, do also give the older cats a chance. A cat of 4 years old deserves a good forever old too!

I went to the pet store today. The lady in the cat area told me all about cats and kittens. She said I really should get two. So I think I may get two now but I'm not quite sure yet.
